I read somewhere that GT5 will have "slightly less" cars than GT4 due to the fact that each car takes 180 days to model instead of GT4's 30 days. Since GT4 had around 650 cars, I'm thinking 500 - 550 cars.

I'd be happy with that if we DON'T get the usual multiple versions of EXACTLY the same car i.e: Skyline, NSX, RX7 etc. and their racing versions.

Gary.

Not only is GT5 getting damage, but we'll actually be able to get the cars upside down!

"Manufacturers are now coming to us, asking us to add their cars to the game, so we're seeing less resistance to in-game damage from the manufacturers. I'm still not sure they'll be too keen on seeing their cars roll over, though." - Kaz, speaking to Top Gear

*EDIT* Unless I'm interpreting that wrong, and they weren't able to get flips in...

I think he's saying that even though they are starting to not mind the damage aspect, they still probably won't want the cars to be able to roll over.

I don't know where else I can get rid of my frustration.
The online playability to me is such a mess, bad attitude n bad rules. 2 up to 3 lap races with little kids all over, unfair n reckless. The whole GT5 format matches the childish mainstream, short and crashy. Aren't there enough games like NfS, Burnout etc? Guess they're just selling quantity instead of quality. So disappointing. I'm glad there're the ISI/Simbin-Sims with at least some matures.

That's exactly what he said, only worded differently. I'm wondering how that is to be interpreted. Either you can flip cars, despite the manufacturers not particularly liking it, or the manufacturers disliked the idea so much that they refused to allow it.

the ladder. but maybe its not been an outright refusal, just enough distaste to pause the implementation indefinitely.

i just checked the official Top Gear site, they have confirmed deal with sony to include Top Gear test track and have been told by sony to expect around 900 cars.....i'm excited to say the least

I'd be happy with 450 cars in GT5

Each car is so different now, with the PS3 you can see every little detail on the inside and out, and they all handle so differently. That means you are more likely to spend twice the time with every car in GT5 then you would in GT4. Quality over quanity

I'd be happy with 450, but I'm one of the few that prefers quantity equally with quality. I enjoy collecting all the cars and tuning/customizing them all to my liking, so 900 will be super awesome for me.

Yeah, the one thing I found about the quantity in GT4 was that every now and then I ran across a total gem of a car that I would have never missed had it not been there, but am truly happy to have found. Finding cars you never knew existed is what made it great.

Plus, with more cars, there are more interesting ones that you'd never probably expect in a video game. Take for example GT3, only about 150 cars and most of them were ones that are in other video games. There were a few interesting ones, but they were mostly Japanese. When I first played GT4, it was so much better because not only were there more cars, but there were more cars that I've never seen before, at least not in a video game.

I'd be quite happy if they put all the cars from previous GTs in GT5 along with some new ones. It'd be good to see all the old cars in full HD glory.

I agree with GTveteran. It's Polyphony so we know it's quality. Thus, we should be asking for quantity. :D

And... since GT5's NA release, GT news has been really slow. Polyphony must be hard at work.

Kaz says Porsche will "probably" be in GT5!!

*EDIT* - the actual interview questions here (credits to LandMotorsport for the find)

OPM:Which manufacturers do you still dream on including? Porche?

KY: I can't really go into detail at this point, but by the time GT5 comes out I think we'll have most - no, all of the major manufacturers.

OPM: SO, come on..Porsche?

KY:Probably.

OPM: Exciting! So how are you getting on with damage modelling so far?

KY: It's not actually difficult, but there are a lot of different factors, like how many cars are going to be able to race at the same time once we've included the damage. There's going to have to be adjustments made - when you crash at over a certain speed there's no way you can drive it anymore. So the level of damage applied to the car will be dampened so that you can still have fun.

I just hope that with damage, there are 'arcade' and 'simulation' options that can decide whether or not a high-speed impact will kill your car for those of us that want it.

They'd probably save an announcement like that for a homesoil event like TGS.
Well either way I wanna drive this thing:

I sure hope they go for the full roll over physics. It has been such a cop out in racing games to exclude. I think we all know the problem is that the car manufacturers are affraid it will potentially give the impression (accurate or not) that some of their cars are far too prone to roll over.

It's the same thing with normal damage. They don't want their cars to look unsafe in a "simulator" because people might believe it's accurate.

EDIT:

Looking at that RS Spyder reminds me: when cars like that are damaged in real life, you see entire panels get replaced in the pits because the aerodynamics are so important. That would be awesome to see in GT5 if we get fully fleshed-out pit cutscenes.

I have read in other posts that GT5 is not going to be at E3. Not sure if this is true or not but it would be nice to see some progress.

That is just an assumption because it has not been formally announced. It also wasn't pre-announced last year either from memory (or any year) but it always makes a appearance in some form. The year PD showed off GTHD that mixed GT4 with TT was just because Sony pushed them to show something, which they had nothing new to show (with out revealing info too early) us at that time so that had to do.

Considering this could very well be the last E3 before GT5 release I would be extremely suprised if it didn't appear with atleast GT5P update info.

Yeah, I still load the old GT to play some cars like some versions of the Nissan R390 or Dodge Viper RT/10 that were not included on later GTs, like the tuned version of the Dodge Viper RT/10 made by Polyphony Digital (when you paid 500.000 Cr to tune it) that changed that convertible car into a closed one with red roof and yellow letters. It was soo exotic :)

ign.com have just announced that GT5 will be at e3. Finally some good news, I hope we get to see some new cars and general progress.

Lovely news.

I'm sure they will unveil more cars and tracks there with some sort of trailer. Maybe even show a sneak peak of damage or weather

I was in Tokyo for three days, a few days ago... pretty interesting/awesome place. While I was there, it was part of my mission to hunt down the PD office and ask them about GTP. I had their address on paper... but this being a Japanese address, it wasn't that easy to follow. I spend 5 hours searching, and eventually had to give up. It was getting too late and I had a plane to catch the next morning. 👎 But anyway, I tried for us GTP's... :sly:
