Am I the only one who thinks the trees look good, unless I'm missing something?

Nope, damned if I can see what people are talking about here. Even when i'm looking for it, which I certainly wouldn't be whilst playing the game.

People are whining about the trees because when you look at the for a couple of seconds you can see they're not full 3-d.

If you are paying that much attention to the trees you're doing it wrong, IMO.

Not if you are taking photographies, my friend. Many people in the Photomode section in GT4 are particulary careful when shooting a car in a track surrounded by trees.

Those of you complaining about "2D trees" and "poor A.I.", I don't know what you're drinking. It looks great from all aspects. I'm beginning to wonder if some of you should even consider GT5, because I doubt you'll do more than sit there and pick it apart when you get it.

It seems that Gran Turismo goes through more ridiculous and unwarranted vivisection than any game in history.

I can dig that. Unfortunately KY blew the poly budget on the cars so unless photomode fans get the hang of Photoshoop compositing I guess they're going to be in a world of pain.

Yeah I do not get it either. Last time I checked if the trees look real while you are driving that is all that matters. Racing games are not meant to played at 1 mph. And on the Ai if you drive like a bloke well guess what you are going to crash into the other car.

i liked trees colours.. They are so bright and so clean. it looks realistic..Think about Dynamic Day night... When sun rises so bright and then when sun fall down they are so dark and frightened lol.

They're in full 3D, but Turn10 doesn't know how to use shaders properly so everything looks fake.

Currently watching a video of Forza 3's Nürburgring. Looks awesome to me, despite the track being in a worse "weather" condition, which IMO, makes it more realistic.

That's why I said they don't know how to use shaders. On the Nurb they used the cloudy scenario (low brightness) on purpose, to "hide" the cartoony graphics we usually see on maple/laguna seca/road america/mugello and so on.

Right now I'm playing it at 1080p on a 46" hdtv and it doesn't look any better than the GT5 videos (youtube hd/gamersyde quality) we've seen so far.
The word fake will always be included in my opinions of FM3 in-game graphics because shaders are poor quality compared to GT5 and GT5P.

The main difference is that:
-FM3 looks like a videogame
-GT5 looks real
it's as simple as that.
I won't go any further, don't want to start another useless console/game war.

They are pretty smart, then. 👍 I could drive on that Nürburgring all day long.

If by 3d you mean flat sides places together through the middle exactley the same as GT5's then yes Forza 3's are 3d. But by that definition so are GT5's.

Never played Forza. I can tell you, if you stop and look around in some Race Dricer Grid tracks that have trees, you will see 3D trees moving in the wind. If they can do it realistically I would expect no less from GT5.

Granted, but GRiD's car models are butt-ugly, that doesn't really have anything to do with your point though.

Just a personal gripe. :D

By full3D I meant that in fm3 even the ramifications are tridimensional http://i340.photobucket.com/albums/o358/wolfsburgraz/Forza 3/R852slideMaple.jpg

EDIT: oh wow, I just noticed that SOME trees have 3D ramifications, many have 2 flat sides http://www.mattwaddell.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/BMW-M5-Maple.jpg ....and I own the game since its release. That proves I never cared about trees.

Are you joking my friend??!1In that foto the trees seem to me like a picture(painting)!!the trees in gt5 is more realistic even in 2d!!

Enough already stop complaining about the 3D trees please yes Grid has better trees(how funny does that sound:))but granturismo has better car models and graphics so what do you want more better treesor better cars(enough said)

Are we seriously having another argument about the stupid trees? Most of you act like the world is going to end if PD doesn't make the trees perfect.

Beg to differ. The cars look real - the tracks aint all that. Obvious texture repeats everywhere, flat as hell grass and gravel textures and as few polys as humanly possible on things like tire barriers and armco. And the shaders might light well but there's next to nothing in the way of bump/normal mapping going on.

Maybe this has all changed for GT5 but it doesn't look like it from any preview vids I've seen.

Grid is a 1 year and a 1/2 old game. And GT5, for how much love I have for it (I'm serious), it's still vaporware :grumpy:

Can you back to Topic? This is not a adventure game ya know. i know they are trees thats enough to know what they are. i am not a gardener cliffhanger greenpeace member etc. Get a grip guys. we only need a REAL release date... Game developer conference in MARch we hope we will get something new about other features or some features. it doesnt matter what it is. Cmon! stop it please and back to subject

Yeah I do not get it either. Last time I checked if the trees look real while you are driving that is all that matters. Racing games are not meant to played at 1 mph.

Well if that's your philosophy, we can do away with all the other wonderful attention to detail that PD HAS put the effort into. Take a drive through London (at 1 mph) and examine the detail put into every shop and building. It's amazing. And even though I may not see it in it's full beauty while I'm racing, the very knowledge that the detail is there adds to the authenticity of the experience.

I never noticed how bad the trees looked until I crashed a few times at Indy on the TT demo. I ended up in the sand, right next to a tree and it looked terrible. Notice that I made this discovery while attempting to make fast lap times, and NOT driving around the circuit at 1 mph.

So I say it's a valid argument to bring up. We're not being picky about trees because we love trees, but rather I would say most of us are concerned with how inconsistent they are from the rest of the games graphics.

But when you're flying past them at 150mph, why does it matter? It doesn't. So let's just drop it, sheesh. This is getting VERY old, VERY quick.

I agree we should drop it because this is the news thread, but you're way out of line to simply decide for everyone that it doesn't matter. Your premium badge may earn you certain things, but not the right to decide what does and doesn't matter to the rest of us.
