Before anyone states the obvious - I know Nascar motors are racecars and the dashboard is meant to look repulsive. Just wondering if the hideous interiors will persuade any of the die-hard cockpit-view junkies to switch to the far superior bumper cam?

nah not me... and personally i love the look of that interior much more than some standard car interiors.

one thing for sure, the spectators look a lot better :dopey:
Amazing details with the screws :dunce:

Shadow precision is a little low, big gaps between object and shadow

Realism and immersion>Laptimes

And im actually slower with the "far superior" bumper cam.

No..... Way..

It's about the experience and the feeling of being immersed in the car regardless of how beautiful or ugly it is.

Nope, for anything it makes me even more enthusiastic, they even modelled the loose wires....so much detail.

And yes i admit, i may have some loose wires myself, but even a "hideous" cockpit is always far superior and more realistic than the lying-on-the-hood-belly-down-with-head-facing-forwards bumper cam. ;)

The NASCAR video still has 2 of the same driver running at the same time issue. I hope PD fixes that before release.

For a given definition of "realistic" perhaps. Personally I don't believe in out of body experiences and as far as I can tell astral projection is the only way you'd ever see your own hands, in the distance, behind your own hands

A little joke ... that's kinda true. :D

Do you think an run at ovals is esay? Try it and tell us.
A lot of f"""" european thining the same about ovals.
Befores to say things about an oval, try it on a simulator, no AIDS, an tell us your opinion.

Is that the best you can do?

No matter how you shake it, the interior cam is going to offer a much more "realistic" experience than the bumper cam. Pure and simple. If it gives you better lap times (bumper cam), than that's wonderful. Yet, don't expect everyone to have the same experience. My lap times are much better utilizing the interior cam, as it gives me a similar view to what I see looking out of my real car, and thus allows me to judge distances/outer dimensions of the vehicle. I'm sure many other people also have a similar experience.

That being said, both views are perfectly fine, and offer something for everyone. Neither is "far superior" as you implied.

;)

Chase cam is far superior :sly:

But seriously, cockpit view is the best way to go. You're looking at a flat screen, there is no peripheral vision in any of the views. Cockpit view gives more visual feedback than bumper cam, which helps. It's the most realistic. But not everyone will be comfortable with it.

Okay, as realistic as going 200+ Mph sitting on the couch without experiencing any gravitational force might ever going to be.
I find imagining being the driver not any harder to do than imagining driving an exotic car i can't afford IRL on a circuit i might never visit IRL.

I only meant realistic within the context of a pixelated make believe driving sim, the only out of body experience i do believe in. ;)

I'm french and I kinda like NASCAR because it's exactly the kind of race where it's more about driving skills than mechanical performance (not to mention F1 but you can be a potential champion if u dont have the car you are screwed).

On the other hand drive on any track/layout is easy... its only when you trying to be the fastest that's hard, for both oval or not.

Now the main skill is far different in between oval races and other races:
- Oval races (like endurance races) are very long, lots of laps, the driver has to be more constant than effective ( but still being fast of course).
- Other races are more about mastering each sngle corner of the track to get the fastest possible, its more risky and tiring.

I did not drive on an oval but i did on Spa F. in a Porsche 911 Cup (priate tests) and I did litteraly **** on my pants when i went trought Eau Rouge and Raidillon (n° 3,4,5 on the layout). On these particular corners you dont feel like physics are the same and its really hard to control and even "predict" your car behavior !!! (even F1 drivers telling that its hard to go full speed in it whenever the car can do it)

You actually experience the same gravitational force whether or not your in a car travelling 200 mph or sat on your sofa. Just like a bullet fired from a gun will hit the ground at the same time a bullet does that is dropped at the same height as the gun at the same time. I think you meant wont experience any G forces, but the G is just a way of quantifying the force not the name of it.

Yes, but i think you know what i meant, sorry for being incorrect concerning definitions, i probably meant G-force although travelling 200+ Mph constant in a straight line you wouldn't experience much of those either.

Pedantic nitpickery reaches new and unprecedented levels ITT

It was all meant tongue in cheek and I knew exactly what you meant no need to apologise 👍

Incidentally, you will experience exactly 1 G while travelling in a straight line at a constant 200 mph ;)

lol, I aim to please!!

I prefer bumper cam on GT5P. Cockpit cam helped me get to grips with the relationship between my DFGT & the onscreen action when I first got it though.

Bonnet cam is always my preference, but it's a waste of space on GT5P as you feel like you're floating 10 feet above the bonnet.

Personal preference I suppose, but I prefer to see more track when I'm racing & enjoy the pretty cars on replays.

Can i join the nitpicking club?? :dopey:

I hardly believe these 2 bullets would travel at the same speed, or else, shooting yourself through the foot would be pretty difficult ( or pretty easy, depends on how you look at it ) :D

I know what you meant, but i just couldnt help myself!

Back to the topic, i would prefer the hood cam, not because it's more realistic or something like that, but just because there are no bars getting in my line of sight. When driving a car and going into a corner i can just move my head a little and it doesnt bother me so much, but in a game it's fixed there and it kinda gets in the way sometimes ( i dont have the PSEye ).

I agree. I hope they fixes hood cam in GT5.

Damn it you got me!! I'll add one small caveat to my original post. If the bullet is fired horizontally.

from Gamersyde:

As promised earlier, March will be full of nice content on Gamersyde. After our first 10 minutes videos and our Alan Wake preview, here are some new videos of Gran Turismo 5, live from Japan. DjMizuhara went to the Nissan showroom in Nagoya to get his hands on a demo of the game and he captured some footage for your guys. You will get to see the Tokyo track again, as well as the famous Nurburgring. The 60 fps videos will follow shortly as usual.
Update: 60 fps video, with sound, available.
