I've driven all about all pc and even Mac sims since Revs from 1984, and all though all sims are a best approximation, GT5 is still a boatload better in v2.x than Gt4 on the basis of physics.
It's not perfect, but for some street cars, on regular Comfort normal or Soft tyres, it handles pretty well like my real car (Miata MX-5).
Gt4 was not even close.
Gt4 was so complete as a console game, though. I didn't care for the physics too much either, in some ways they were worse and less fun than gt3/concept, but as a product, just so polished. I'm not going to compare every element with gt5, but for me, the graphics sum it up well.
When you watch gt5 videos at gt4 resolutions (never played 4 through hdmi) you realise how ropey and inconsistent gt5 really is. Everything about gt4 is so smooth and solid. Everything they did was to the highest standard possible. No element of lighting or shadows or effects is flawed.
Gt5 is so over-reaching that what is there is typically not very good. Dust/smoke/spray/shadows/self shadows, you name it, it's not perfect, which is not very GT, is it?
Attention to detail is totally absent.
Gt4 was all about how it looked whilst playing/moving. Gt5 is a screenshot generator, (and not exactly brilliant at that either), which everyone seems to be a big fan of, though I have no clue why tbh.
So I find it hard to argue that Kaz cares as much as he did. The list of faults and flawed features is as long as your arm. And it's not just inconsequential things either.
My only ray of light comes from my hope that they cut their losses to focus on the next one with renewed enthusiasm. My faith in the series will be lost if it's not exceptional, though.
