I may be alone, but the driver animations is driving me nuts! I mean, not even grandma is changing gears that slow! If you listen to the videos it takes almost a second after the gear change 'till the driver pulls the gear lever. It's slow motion god damn it!

The driver should look busy, not like he's sunday cruising. Now, here is a busy driver!

The same with the paddle shift cars. No matter if the paddles are attached to the wheel or not, in real life no one is stupid enough to remove the hands from the wheel and literally pull the paddle towards you. Perhaps while turning the wheel you have to, but it would still be 5 times faster than it currently is in GT5.

Right.....
If the player himself isn't doing corrections, why should the onscreen character be shown doing them?

Though I agree with you Strittan in saying that driver animations aren't great, I still believe they're waaaaaaay better than the ones in other mainstream games, and I still worry about other things in GT5 I consider more important than the quality of driver gestures ;).

Driving animations suck when chaning Sequential.. soo SLOW.. Changing gears just like in Prologue, I do not mind.. But where the F___K is 900Degree ? Heck, even GT4 had 900 degree steering animations.

You realy think that in the final build of GT5 there won't be 900 deg steering?

He turned the HUD off and on. That's a NEW feature.

Are you being sarcastic?

I ask because that is NOT a new feature.

If you think this is gameplay, then you should know that its actually replay mode, where that Feature has been there since maybe even before GT3.

I just hope that you can turn of those useless G-meters , Acel/decel gauges...

Personally, I don't think they're useless. In fact, I like them and they're useful to me. However, I'd like the ability to move them or to turn them off so everyone is happy. The more, the merrier ;).

You completely missed my point. The shifting movements is waaay too slow. It has nothing with correction to do.

More important things huh? Is that how PD should think? No wonder all these issues are there then... "I know the shifting movements are miles too slow, and it would take 15 minutes for us to fix, but I think our fans would rather see further improved graphics, although they're perfect as they are."

I care about other stuff as well. However, this is in fact important to me, because cockpit view is all I'm using (and I don't think I'm alone here) and if the driver in game shifts a second or so after I do, that is quite irritating.

Yup, I'm quite satisfied about the driver animations in GT5. Of course, there is room for improvement. But GT5 is a racing game , not an adventure game like Uncharted. So please ask yourself, do you think that the driver animations should be the the main priority?

I think the only problem with the animation today is that they are too slow, and I can live with that. It's not like in Forza when the driver shifts in the air:)

Best way would be incar camera with no hud on:drool:

I race in cockpit view too, but I really don't pay much attention to the driver movements. Specially because my wheel and my hands are right in front of my TV screen so I miss them most of the time. I believe the driver animations are a priority, but not the greatest priority.Take in account what Fredde_swe and me said, even though this animations aren't great, they're way better than what most games offer.

Exactly, you get my point.

That would be a challenge!. However, I'd say they must improve the options for cockpit view so the dials would become truly useful, at least in my 21" TV, I find the dials very small.

Did anyone think when this post started that we'd reach 10000 replies before GT5 was released?

I didn't but I'm not sure it will be out before 15000 at this moment :)

Your belief isn't based on facts.👎
For example, GRID and Shift:

Oh, you son of a [lol]!

Congrats. This thread has come a long way. Funny though, some things haven't changed since the first post in 2007, like a release date. Got to laugh!:sly:

Hum, not sure about how many months it will take to release, but as time goes by, the hype increases and the very same happen to the number of posts in this thread. ;)

Talking about the driver animations, I'm satisfied with them, to be honest the very same animations in Prologue are enough to me, just adding the paddle shifting animation would be enough, and PD did it. Having a 900º degree steering animation is one my requests too, but if it doesn't happen I'm ok.

The game is supposed to deliver the feel and passion of the cars, not the perfect science of human kinetics.

At least no one mentioned the words "cardboard trees" in the last few days. I'm glad with that. :D

For example, GRID and Shift:

In Shift, at least on the 360, the gear lever moves when you change gear, and the hand follows a fraction later and then it meets the lever. Nothing too obvious, though.

But the hands are done nicely, a bit of live in them. Very subtle but fun to watch once you notice it.

Shift animations are terrible! faster no doubt but very bad animated, the hands are jumping all the way and lack the subbtle natural movements of GT5.
Conclusion: Make the GT5 animations as fast as NFS Shift and we are spot on! :dopey:

They both seem a bit spastic. Race drivers anticipate turns and gear shifts, most of the time the shifting is quite slow and deliberate. I do agree that sometimes the hand stays on the shifter a tad too long in GT5P even when going through tough corners (when it should be on the wheel). Hopefully at some point motion detection will be more than just head-tracking and include hand/arm detection so that the hands on the screen move exactly an yours do.

If you look at this video you can see that sometime the driver is fast and sometime he's slow when moving his shifting hand. But compare to the SHIFT/GRID video, it's never quite as fast.

The reason I think PD decides to slow down the movement from the wheel to the shifter ( and vice versa) is to make sure that in case of short-shifting, the motion will not seem impossibly fast.
