GT4 was delayed so many times it almost became funny (in fact it was delayed so many times that people are still confusing GT4's delays with GT5 [so far just one delay, which affected Japanese market only]).

If you're familiar with the works of Douglas Adams - the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the Dirk Gently novels - you'll be familiar with this kind of behaviour and, commonly, the extreme quality of the end result. Douglas Adams is who I compare Kazunori Yamauchi to most often, and he once said:

"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by."

Yeah, and the bad part about it is that GT5 seems to be the only game that has a seemingly "delayed" development.

The multitude of 8 hour adventure games seem to come out on time, why can't GT? 👎

Mainly because they're all very derivative. There's few storylines that haven't been played out.

That aside, I wouldn't spend £40 on a game that only lasted 8 hours. That people will is probably why they can churn them out without a second thought. That and endless football (both)/hockey games that are nothing more than new season updates.

Every time somebody complains about GT5 being pushed back or delayed, they say play the other games out there.

Yes there are other games out there(I've played them for 4yrs) but most of them can be completed in 8 hours or have little to no replay value, and all cost $60. 👎

The situation is made worse on the ps3, where there is so few quality racing games. The other racers are either strait up arcade(Grid, Nfs) or have to little content to be truly happy with(GT5p, F1).

GT may not completely rule the ps3 market but it does seem to have a monopoly on the quality of the racing genre (ps3). :(

And if you've ever managed a project (most people have, in some form or other) you'd recall that things rarely ever go to plan. Milestones shift, change their requirements, disappear altogether or suddenly appear out of nowhere.

Agreed, but that was not my point, milestones, project scope, deliverables, everything is dynamic when managing a project ( yes, I managed a dozen projects, so your point is rock solid, I know what you're talking about ). However, even within this dynamic environment which is a game development project, you can still measure the overall progress of the project as whole. I've never saw ( or heard ) of a project which followed it's own workflow since the beginning and finished succesfully. Changing requirements and adapting the project to current reality is necessary. ;) Measuring the overall progress too.

A couple of months ago, some friends started a Game development company here at São Paulo, they've called me to manage the very first project, I spent a week working with them, then I gave up, a game isn't like a software project, it's very similar to a movie production, the game designer and the producers can change everything from one minute to another, just like the writers and directors do in a movie. Scary. :scared:

Of course I could still measure the progress, but I would do as PD did, we was at 93% percent last week, now we're at 45%, because the game producers want a revolutionary physics engine and a full sandbox mode.

Bloody game producers.

All very true, but a lot also depends as well on how critical it is that you meet a given deadline. For a lot of projects, especially games development, being late doesn't mean legal litigations or even necessarily lost sales.

I've managed, and been involved in many projects related to Helathcare, where the sector is so heavily regulated and full of so many rules and guidelines, that you have no choice but to meet the deadline with a product that is compliant, otherwise you face losing your license to manufacture or sell into other markets. Thus, many projects have pretty much gone to plan from a technical perspective, except that to hit the fixed time frame, and provide a product that meets the quality requirements, there was no choice but to increase the resources and hence overall cost.

Product quality, time, and cost...a project managers three worst enemies!

Very true, I know a guy which is consultant in Healthcare regulations compliance, he told me the very same history. The regulations are set on stone, there's no how to negotiate or propose another approach, you must accomplish all requirements, mostly time and quality, also there's legal issues to be addressed too. Hence the costs are always exploding. That's why I've turned to IT projects, there's more freedom to create and mitigate risks.

Regarding GT5, I'm pretty sure that Sony wasn't intending to spent 60M dollars to develop a single title, even an exclusive top seller like GT5. Of course the sensei suffered pressure and influence, he's also a perfectionist, so considering all those factors, adding 3D support, MKT strategy and many other (supposed) features which just popped out from day to night, it's clever to believe in a Christmas release. I know it sounds pessimistic given that we have clues to believe in October as a feasible month, but considering the whole scenario, it's possible.

Yep, that's how it is. I was involved with an international manufacturer of healthcare products, so as you can imagine, the scrutiny around IT systems that could potentially affect product quality was through the roof - often needlessly so at times, but to be fair, a more "common sense" approach started being introduced which helped a bit.

Knowing what I know, I personally would also put money on a late 2010 holiday release, maybe before Thanksgiving to capitalise on that potential as well.

"Release the damn game!" nuff said

Indeed it is.

About the person that made the comment, that is. The article is about GT Academy winning drivers Lucas Ordonez (2008) and Jordan Tresson (2010) in the first race of the European GT4 Cup season at Silverstone, driving for RJN Motorsport in their Nissan 350Z (Lucas) and 370Z (Jordan and codriver Alex Buncombe).

What do Lucas, Jordan and Alex have to do with the release schedule of GT5? What do Nissan have to do with the release schedule of GT5? What do RJN Motorsport have to do with the release schedule of GT5? What does Silverstone have to do with the release schedule of GT5? What, even, does GT Academy have to do with the release schedule of GT5?

That's right - nothing at all. So why post about the release schedule of GT5 in this news story? Can't bring yourself to be happy for Lucas and Jordan? Can't think of anything to say about the actual story? Hey, here's a thought, Sebastien Loeb plays GT - why not spam WRC boards with "Release the damn game"? Jarno Trulli plays GT - why not spam F1 boards with "Release the damn game"? After all, they have as much to do with the release schedule of GT5 - they played a previous version once.

It borders on attention-seeking stupidity.

thank you for call me as a stupid :)

to post the news is "Charlotte Panther – Head of PR, SCEE" - every opportunity to make it clear that we need more news about the game is a good one.

the playstation blog is prior to gaming world.. and GT Academy or the life of Luca Ordonez or Jordan is OT for me.. and it sound like a bad and frustrating joke to post news about it and not even a word ABOUT THE GAME that all the community is asking for.

I personally just ask for more info.. not "release the game and so on".. so in any case.. if you think is stupid.. ignore and not insult people for nothing 👍

PS: sorry for my english

Unless you were one of the people who made one of said statements, I'm pretty sure he wasn't calling you stupid, or anyone for that matter. Read again.

Yeah, and the bad part about it is that GT5 seems to be the only game that has a seemingly "delayed" development.
Hey, another chance for me to post this link:

Um, you brought the situation, via link, to this site, where Famine is a moderator.

And of course, if people are linking to there from here, and then spamming the comments section it makes it look like we are all a bunch of comment spammers that don't add to the conversation and high jack other sites. I am sure Jordan, who is working hard to turn this site into a fully legitimate Gran Turismo (and eventually racing game) news site, would rather Sony not be given reason to brush him off more than they already do.

I also don't believe that Charlotte Panther, Head of PR for SCEE, has something to do with GT5 release date either. Likely she'll be informed of the date whenever her superiors decide to, so she could prepare her job of PR properly.

In fact, at this point, I also doubt that SCEE itself do have a vote on when the game is to be released, since apparently it isn't yet done!

So, my suggestion would be select a few other games for the PS3 (driving simulators or otherwise) and enjoy them. Time will pass by easier that way.

I called your behaviour "attention-seeking stupidity". I didn't say you are "a stupid".

By spamming up a news report that has nothing to do with the game. I'm sure Lucas, Jordan, Alex and their teams are happy that you don't care at all about them and seek to divert stories about them for your own purposes.

I don't care whether it's "OT" for you. The fact is you spammed a news story that had nothing to do with the game with your childish tantrum. If that's "the community", it's not the one I know about.

Why aren't you on the WRC and F1 sites, doing the same? It'd have the same relevance.

I personally just ask for more info.. not "release the game and so on".. so in any case.. if you think is stupid.. ignore and not insult people for nothing 👍

And if you think a news story is OT you ignore it and stop dragging all of us into the mud along with you.

The story is about Lucas, Jordan and Alex. Nothing to do with GT5. Your comments are childish and unhelpful and make us all look just like you.

this way I can understand, and I'm sorry. but the impressive lack of info must be noticed in some way

Relax dude, the game will come out someday. Regarding the lack of news, this is the PD modus-operandi, you must be patient and think twice before posting complaints or rants directly to Sony media channels since the company is big, and a given department maybe has nothing to do with the decision to share or not share news, regardless if it's PR, accountancy or cleaning, there is always a smarter and polite way to express how much we're pissed. ;)

"The developer claimed the driving simulator would not be released until it “satisfied everyone’s wishes and then exceeded them.”

This quote ruffles my feathers, too.

We know so little that we don't even know which wishes have been considered.

But if they're going to be exceeded, then I guess I'll shut my mouth. ;)

Great, I am sure now I will get to drive a combine harvester and even be able to set a new record on the Nurburgring driving it............:indiff:

One "simple" wish most people have is to have all the cars we owned (not dream of owning) in the game.

I'd like to see them do that. And exceed it... :P

GT-contrasting info:
After releasing the first trailer for TDU2 last week, coupled with lots of pics and interviews explaining almost all of the game's features, new trailer will hit the net by the end of this week!(listening to community, they decided the first one wasn't enough):)
That's good PR!👍

That's because weak games need strong PR, AND, TDU2 has nothing to hide unlike GT5. I bet right now Turn10 are dying to know what GT5 will feature, and I bet that this is one of the main reasons it is so quiet about the game right now.

TDU2 was announced a few weeks ago, right? It has been in production for what 2-3 years? It's coming out this fall, right? So we finally get some info 5-6 months before the game is released, 2-3 years after it began it's "life", right? And that means great PR, according to you?
So PD PR sucks because they didn't wait til 6 months before release and instead released things from pretty much the beginning of development til the almost very end? Prologues, demos, time trials, videos, screens, feature lists were all pointless?
You're obviously angry with PD and anything different anyone else does is great, while anything PD does is simply wrong, correct?
