Lucky you. ;)

What about the physics? Feels exactly the same of the TT? Did you feel some difference in the tire model?
Completely different from the TT. Which should not be a surprise given the different track and car. ;)

Maybe next week someone can come along, shoot a video and show how the car and AI behave. (I know that MarcoM has a video camera).

Here is one of the stills I took. (the rest are crap)

I forgot to mention, there is no replay option in this demo, so video has to be made while racing.

Denur, just wondering, was this in Eindhoven ( Netherlands ) and is the demo playable at any Mercedes-dealership or just a few selected ones?

Yes, this was in Eindhoven (EMA on Limburglaan 30). The way I understand it, every Mercedes dealer in Europe has this demo setup.

i bet this SLS demo 1 year old build.
Maybe, but my guess is that it is based on the same build as the GT Academy TT version (which could very well be 1 year old). We just don't know, do we?

You just drove two whole laps on the almighty GT5 Nurburgring, I'm jealous.

Heading up at high speed to meet up with the legendary Karoussel...

EVERY DEALER? Thats me of work tomorow.
My local one is only 15 minutes away, but i would feel stupid walking in and just having a go on it... what if they don't have one? I look stupid walking in and back out, or should i pretend to be intrested in the SLS?

Or should i phone first?

That is what I did, phone first. :)

Actually, I drove a lot more laps. Too bad I had an appointment, but they asked whether I liked it and would come again. I said yes, so I guess I will be back..... :P

Denur.
\While driving in cockpit view is cockpit shaking thanks to bumps on the road? or you driving hovercraft?

and said? or asked?

then just went down an had a go?

Don't worry that much, you can just walk into the dealership and say; "that new A-class, is the diesel-version going to...hey what's that? mind if I have a go?
Then just play as long as you like until being sent away by security..............;)

Oh yes, it shakes in cockpit view. Almost as good as the RTR racing demo by Simbin (if you are familiar with that)

Yeah how did the whole situation go down Denur? I hope you didn't have to put down a deposit ;P
I told them I own an Alfa GT and the ice was broken (one of the guys used to work for the Alfa Romeo dealer in Eindhoven) :D

Don't worry at all, as long as you're not dressed like the average Wall-mart customer or behave like any other rednecked hooligan, they will just let you in and even offer you coffee or thee. :)

Were the graphics better?
Better than what?

But no, I don't think the graphics were better than the other tracks we have seen so far in the other GT5 demos. The barriers are still 2D, as are the trees. But the overall graphical experience while racing, borders on nothing less than breathtaking. The immersion is absolute and that is enough for me. 👍

Great pic, especially if taken while driving! So no time limit?

Looks like a break in the fence to the slight left, as if you could just head on down that service road. :) Nah, prolly an invisible barrier.

What about circuit is that GT4 HD track or not??

Uhh, I was not driving while taking that picture (pause mode), but indeed, there is no time limit. The only limit is two laps per session. I'm planning to take that side road. That is why I took that picture, just to remind me. :D

I doubt they would include operating costs into the development of the game. Also the 60 million was a long time ago, they added new staff and started working on new tech. more $$$.

Just never forget ridiculous amount of money they've earned so far.

They've sold GT4 in almost 11 million copies worlwide, which made them probably more than 200 mllion $ in pure profit (with revenue close to billion), and GT4's development cost just can't be compared to GT5's - it was probably not greater than 10 million $.

Also do not forget that GT4 had 3 predecesstor games on PS2 - GT 3 (sold in also close to 15 million copies in the time when games were stupidly expensive, no cheap online retailers backthen, and you just can't imagine amount of money they've arned on that title), GT Concept and GT4: Prologue (both latter sold in almost 3 million copies combined).

If you look at the things on broader financial scale, you can pretty much realise that overall GT5 production costs - even if they have risen to 100 million $ for instance, which they're not and never will - are ALREADY MORE THAN COVERED with previous titles revenue and corresponding profit.

GT5 revenue will be pure profit, as are all previous successors of every GT game so far.

New game is funded by earnings on previous titles, and all future earnings are heading straight to the Swiss banks (you probably never wondered why Switzerland is actually represented in every GT game from the first GT onwards :D), while small part of it is invested into development of next titles.

Polyphony Digital is stupidly rich company, 60 million for development only represent INVESTMENT, not COST to them, and yes - they do deserve every cent they get.

They've got the cash flow to do big projects, funding and support from one of the largest organisations in the world helps too, just a little bit ;)

You seemed to have missed out on his post on the previous page describing the track:

Just ran a few laps on the Nordschleife with the SLS at my local Mercedes dealer and what a blast it is. :embarrassed:

You can now 'feel' every bump in the road and it looks like there are more than in GT4 (so not a one-on-one port). The SLS requires delicate throttle and break control, even in standard mode. The AI clearly have made a step up from Prologue, they are well aware of the other cars in the field and will try to avoid a collision. Which is a good thing, because even the slightest touch results in a spin-out. And this is good news for the online races, because tapping a car from behind (e.g. at the end of a straight) results in you losing the car. 👍

But I do hope that this strict collision behavior can be turned off in private rooms, because it is not very realistic.

Not even better than the TT demo? I actually thought it looked worse than Prologue

Do you think it an old build?

Their losses in the last year were far exceeded in the year before. Sony haven't got financial issues. Also a lot of the concern was based on a financial quarter that is often not very good for white goods and electrical retailers anyway.

I know it's just personal preference when it comes to how something "looks", but I think many people actually say it looked worse just because the file (220MB?) was ridiculous small for a PS3 demo. :dunce:
IMO TT demo looked way better than Prologue ever could, much more depth, better colors and more detailed.
