I think Locations are Countries, Tracks are the actual tracks (without variations) so its going to be 70 tracks and each of the 70 tracks will either have from 1 - 3 variations or more. So lets just say about 150 tracks overall.

Thats my opinion.. I do not worry, also the less tracks the better we all learn Fast Laps.

I think that 20 locations is 20 tracks then different variations.

For example, 1 track can have 3 variations, then all in reverse too. That equals 6 just there, not mention top gear track, has like 4-5 variations? Then add reverse.

Between those 2 there, that is more tracks than Forza.

Maybe we'll see some (new) cars in the LeMans demo. We can only hope. If not we at least get to see LaSarthe circuit, maybe both versions, chicanes in and out? Hoping there's videos or pictures soon(y) haha.

That reminds me, it'd be great if PD would have modeled the old Le Sarthe accurately, without the curves after the Dunlop bridge. Then, the track would be even faster! :dopey: Like here:

As it is now, the "old" version in GT4 is merely just the current track with the two Hunaudieres chicanes removed.

I know, the version we currently have is great anyways, but still...:embarrassed:

Actually, it was never reffered to as the old one, only as "Circuit De La Sarthe II". Its actually Codemasters that made the idiotic and inexcuseable mistake of modeling a version of the current circuit without a Dunlop bridge and without the chicanes and simply calling it "Le Mans 1968".

I suppose you do have a point. ;) Still, I'd love to see older versions of this track in the game.

150 tracks sounds a bit overconfident in my ears. Redefining a genre does not automatically imply that it will be the biggest game ever in terms of quantity. I think a total of 70 tracks is more realistic to hope for. But again, we'll find out soon.

Regarding the infamous delay discussion I just want to remind people that the discussion existed long before the March release was cancelled. I think the phenomena of delay in this case is more of a trick to the mind than anything else, there was this huge hope that GT5 would be released any day, because in everybody's mind it was ready to go. So the absense of a release date made people think that something was terribly wrong and that they were subject to a delay which they rightfully shouldn't have to take. Then March was suddently announced a release for the Japanese market and the entire gaming community shouted "Hallelujah!" (except for a few who shouted "release it NOW!") and everyone started to look into ways to import the game and took crash courses in Japanese for beginners. The March date was a huge relief for everyone, finally, after all these years we would get to reach our land of Canaan!

So we built up these high expectations for the March release, it would be truly glorious moment. Some of us even baked a cake for the celebrations...

But then, the world collapsed in front of the eyes of millions and millions of people. And when they got home from the movie theatres after watching "2012" they logged on to the internet forums just to find that the March release had been cancelled due to production issues.

What happened to the land of Canaan? Abraham had said to us that it layed just over the next hill, in all its glory. But when we climed it, all we saw was dust and sand. And in that time of disappointmend and despair, a fallen angel came down to the people and in the disguise of a prophet it whispered in our ears: "delaaaaay... deeelaaay... the laaand of Canaan wassss scorched by a drrragon and his name was.... deeelaaaay....".

And when the people made camp that night, they begun to tell stories to each other about the dragon Delay, in the dancing light of the bonfires they enacted the stories and for each and every story that was told, the dragon Delay became more fierce, more feared, more fatal than ever before. Thus was the mythos of Delay created and from that day the people believed not only in the land of Canaan, but also in its ultimate destructor, the dragon Delay.

Well, Abraham kept telling the people that although he had made some bad calculations here and there, the land of Canaan was still out there and it was just a matter of time before they would actually see it for themselves. Some people decided not to follow Abraham anymore and went to buy an Xbox and Forza 3 instead, but most people gave Abraham another chance and desided to keep following him. But this time, they carried the mythos of Delay with them and the dragon was a heavy burden to carry through the desert lands. And did they really know for sure? The next time Canaan layed before them would the dragon return to scorch it again?

The people could do nothing, but to have faith.

(Oh, this is by the way part of the plot for Kaz's fantasy game...)

This has already hit me again today.

According to the Gran Turismo (Series) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo_(series)) page on wikipedia the PSP game has 72 tracks over 45 locations.

Now I'm not much of a programmer or that kind of thing, but surely a PS3 has more capacity and with Bluray, can take more data and store more data on its massive HDD's and hence should be have more locations and tracks than a mere PSP.

GT5 if you haven't already cottoned on has
70 tracks over 20 locations

That is
70 tracks VS 72 tracks
20 locations VS 45 locations.

So not only does GT5 aparently have less tracks, but there just exploiting 20 locations alot for 70 tracks rather than having 45 different locations.

Possible Answer
Could it be that these are the real life locations and the no of tracks at these locations. Hence Deep Forest and all your favorite tracks will be added to that.
It could explain where these made up tracks fit in with the location equation.

So what do you think of the idea? Or is there something I'm missing.

NOTE: This is ont just wishful thinking, but actually logically comparing PSP to PS3

I hope your aware of the fact that one GT5 track is probably as big as the whole PSP game?
Just because you can fit 72 tracks in a little PSP doesn´t mean you can have 72 tracks on the PS3 in GT5. It´s quite a big difference between a track in PSP and one in GT5.

Would love to see how many polygons were used for a track in PSP and GT5.

And lets not also count out the fact that GT PSP is basically GT4 Mobile(ironically its original name), borrowing alot from GT4 on the PS2.

I personally dont worried about the numbers of tracks because we gonna have 1000 cars!!! thats simply insane!!

PS: 1000 cars in a game is a world record?? any other game have around that number?

Yea i think it will be some sort of record when it´s released.

Although i couldn´t care less for about 20% of the vehicles because they are slow and not very fun to drive.

The slowest car i will be driving will be something like a Mini S ,Suzuki Swift or Mazda Miata/MX5.

Cars like cappucino is just a waste of time in my book although i fully understand why Kaz implement these cars in the GT-series.

Well as far as I get 20 tracks + 70 variations , more than 1000 cars and a good online management it will be ok with me. Of course the bigger the better..

I am interested in slow cars as well.
I just don't care about all the japanese car variations.. I mean we are probably going to have more than 600 japanese cars...
I am starting to think that the developer is japanese... ;)

And 400 of these will be different versions of the Nissan Skyline from 1960's until today ;)

I really like the classic cars by the way, I hope there will be a lot of 1960's cars, I have a soft spot for that decade when it comes to automotive design...

Even if it's less track but if it's the right kind of track and those tracks are properly designed and recreated, that to me is worth at least 2 or even 5 of the kind of mediocre tracks in games like NFS. Of course, there's also the aspect of the driving physics where in GT4 a lot of the tracks in the game were let down by the driving physics/FFB. Despite how well some of the tracks were, driving them never felt quite right especially if you're used to PC racing sims. If the TT demo is any indication, I'm willing to forgo quantity (not too much but as long as it's adequate) and relish instead on the quality of the driving.

In fairness the Cappucino is a fantastic little car to slide around in. I've had a lot of fun playing Cappucino races in GT5P online with friends!

Can I have the phone number of your dealer?

Do you think guys because they already took almost 6 years to develop they have finally landed Porsche to be included in the game? Well 6 years , i think it is impossible that up to now they have not landed Porsche contract. Don't tell me with all that time and possibly a 2011 launch they still have not secured Porsche licence. Maybe this is one of there surprise in E3, hopefully.

What I really expect/want once GT5 is released is that they take the complete opposite direction from Turn 10 and by that I mean instead of releasing all the latest models as DLC, they focus on classic cars first then new models or a mix and match of both :embarrassed:

I wonder if, when the game is released, they will us the reasons for the long development time, delays etc... Of course as of now when the game isn't released, they can't tell us anything but after.. Would have been nice to finally know exactly what happened.

Electronic Arts has the Porsche license, in which they sold a sublicense to Turn 10. And since EA owns the license they wont exactly sell it to one of their main competitor..

EA has had the license for i don´t know 10+ years and that´s why you never seen a real Porsche in any of the GT games. Only RUF´s.

I hope this clears everything up.

I will sit in front of my TV like got damn meth-addict for the next year or so :D

And i´m sure PD wont tell you the reason why GT5 is released, why should they?

My biggest guess is that PD is waiting for the perfect time to release GT5 so it doesn´t clash with other Sony-titles or other game titles for that matter.

In my opinion you're a pessimist. Doubt Porsche will be in the game as Kaz said last year "Sadly not" when asked if they managed to gain the Porsche contract. Although you shouldn't take his words for granted and I know that was back in September some time (correct me if I'm wrong), things might have changed.. but I wouldn't bet on Porsche making an appearance at all in GT5. I'd be just as satisfied with Ruf again anyway.

Seriously don't start the whole Porsche or Porsche v Ruf discussion again, as everyone who frequently visits this forum should know by now is that Porsche won't be in.
That's a pity ( and I love Porsche ), but please get over it ( I have months ago ).
Instead of a P 917 Le Mans racer we may however look forward to a P 908 Le Mans racer......:)
