For those of us who spent all of our quarters and begged our parents for more for this:

and this:

That is why we wait patiently. For we know from wence we came.....

I can still (barely) remember sitting in that Night Driver game wondering how in the world this could be sooooo cooooooollll!!!!

And spending mass amounts of money on that damn 'Pole Position' trying to beat the best lap time, Imagining how cool things would soon be if they keep improving this type of game. I always believed that evidentually we would have the stuff we all take for granted now. I'm much older now, but I still LOVE racing games. Just a bit of history for ya:sly:

Edit: By the time I got this post typed, subject moved on. Sorry.

And this is also why I find the whole 2D tree debate laughable to say the least, hell I grew up drooling over 2D cars driving along 2D tracks.....

And yes, my first pet was a little dinosaur......

No it wasn't. March 2010 is not a release date, it is a release month.

Giving a release month makes the last day of the month a release date. Hence why the 31st of March was listed as the official release date.

I thought they gave the 31st as the actual date, but giving a March release window sounds more plausible (And I can't be bothered to look back and find the actual source).

Never saw an official Playstation statement that said release date: March 2010

That is because it was Japan only. You won't have found it on the .us or .eu Sony sites.

And yes, as Spaghetti69 says, it was delayed. Hence why we are all still on this forum waiting for it, rather than actually playing it (From the import version).

Like i said, it was never official. If you READ the entire page besides the first two lines, it says this is PENDING. I don't know if any of you know what pending means, but here's the definition:

Pending-

preposition

1. while awaiting; until: pending his return.
2. in the period before the decision or conclusion of; during: pending the negotiations.

adjective

3. remaining undecided; awaiting decision or settlement; unfinished: pending business; pending questions; pending litigation.

4. about to take place; impending.

Point is, it is a date that was actually announced from Sony and PD. The ONLY date that got that kind of treatment. It may not be official to you, but when a date is announced by the above mentioned parties, it's pretty much an official date.

Edit: Basically what you are saying is that a date isn't official until we have the game in our hands.

Wow....

Can you read exactly what the article says? http://translate.google.com/transla...ttp://www.gran-turismo.com/jp/news/d8240.html
The part enclosed in parenthesis was added 3 months after the news was published ( http://translate.google.com/transla...an-turismo.com/jp/news/d8879.html&sl=ja&tl=en what a coincidence uh?) :
(January 13, 2010 Additional Notes: Launch date is "pending" and will change. New Released again as soon as we guide you.)
It is pending (TBA) since January 13. The entire forum knows that, the entire forum also knows the March 31 2010 release date was given at TGS09.

come on,why do you insist?all the world knows that gt5 release date for Japan was announced for Marz 2010 at TGS 2009 and be delayed later!!!

Only those who look at a release date for one zone, one country would consider that an official release date. Do any of you live in Japan? Until it's on a worldwide scale we shouldn't consider a release date. That's why people get their hopes up for nothing. Japan is not Europe, it is not USA. It is not Australia, It is not Africa, nor South America, until it is stated that a release date is for these zones it shouldn't be looked at as a release date especially for a game as big as GT. That's like playing a game you can't port or import and saying it's officially released around the world. It's not. So many people blow things up to be what they aren't. I never expected a Japan release date at ces to be an official date of release for GT5. Those of you who did, you now see why you have to wait for an official worldwide release.

I'm no trying to be a bearer of bad news but people like to psych things to be something they're not.

Oof.

I didn't expect to start a debate on what a "release date" was, I just wanted to confirm that there was only one official announcement!

Thanks for all that helped, they haven't responded yet but I expect one either tonight or tomorrow morning. We'll see what they come up with for "official release dates".

Oh please....

I guess you were one of those who thought GT5 was going to come out in march huh? When it was always just a Japan release date that was later pending. If you have other GT games you know they always are pushed up. Why this is a surprise to many defeats my knowledge.

What are you arguing about?

The game has one official release date announcement. It was officially announced for march 31st 2010 for Japan. That date was later retracted.

There was even a German Sony guy talking about how mad they were they did not meet the date. I'll try and find it.

EDIT:

Ok, it took all of my google skills, but I found it.

In the German language game magazine Games Trust, Sony Germany product manager Stefan Dettmering said the following: “We know that the fans are waiting for it and we want to release it too. I think that it’s more painful for us than for the fans that we couldn’t hold the last date. The next time we announce a release date we’ll be one-hundred per cent sure that we can hold it and won’t make the mistake we did with the March date. You just have to wait a little longer until we announce a new date, only some days… or weeks.”

Here is one source, but there are more. http://gamerant.com/grand-gran-turismo-release-date-announcement-e3-evan-22343/

What are you arguing about and why are you trying to change subject? Did I say I didn't know that the release date wasn't for all regions? We all heard it was for Japan only. I don't know where you were back in september.... We thought of a may-june release for the rest of the world.

You said the date given at TGS09 wasn't official, you said it was always pending or whatever...
You were wrong. It was a public statement of a day+a month+a year, by Polyphony Digital's CEO on stage.

It got delayed? You know

happens....

Who is we? I never said it was postponed in september. I said the release date was postponed back in January. And there is proof of this that plenty of people have put links to. Also, I said that they didn't delay the release of the game, PD said in January that the release date of March was pending. That means that the release date of March was undecided the whole time (since January) If you put one and two together you get this- GT5 back in CES was stated to be released in JAPAN in March (31st signifies no specific date so hence the last day of the month). JAPAN release is not Global release. Global release had no specific month of release nor date (again 31st signifies sometime during the march month, not a specific 31st of March). January come along and GT5 was quoted to be PENDING a March 31st (any time of march) release, IN JAPAN. Again, JAPAN is not Global. And like I said, Pending means that the release month of March was undecided and could change. And it did. So it didn't come as a surprise to me, and I never felt like it was going to be available in march. All along I felt that they'd release it sometime after or during this summer because of the 3DTV technology that sony said they would be releasing.

There's no argument, I just said if you thought march was an official release date, you have to consider that the 31st is just a spit-ball date to talk about a whole month, March. And then reading the page, in January it was said the March date was PENDING. That's how I came to the conclusion that what I thought was at least closer to reality than a March release.
