What I can't understand is the huge demand for a track editor. Considering so many people readily acknowledge KY's obsessive fetishistic nature when it comes to the game, I don't know why they think he'd let any 12 year old design some track......Do you really think after all the talk of the amount of effort that goes into every track, they'd let users have even a portion of the tools needed to create something akin to Deep Forest?

+1; Firstly, Awesome word! 👍 Secondly, totally agree. The discussion previously was centered around what GT means too each of us. That is an important part of the intrinsic beauty of the game....that it can have a lasting personal impression on us, but that we can also relate to each others impressions. KY takes that 'atmospheric' quality of the game to an extreme level. The lighting, track atmosphere, music, tone; all set up a sophisticated, immersive, hypnotic tenor that captures our attention and keeps it (for years even).

He owns that part of his creations, and I cannot see him letting that out of his control. Perhaps, maybe he has a way to let us explore into his creative means, but I am not expecting it. This has always been about his vision. He just lets us enjoy it.

I wonder if, when the game is released, they will us the reasons for the long development time, delays etc... Of course as of now when the game isn't released, they can't tell us anything but after.. Would have been nice to finally know exactly what happened.

No chance... if pushed they will come out with some polite and vague speech like: "we decided to launch only and when all the necessary conditions were met, and when it would be possible to maximize the potential of the game, together with right timing to market it, and enjoy the GT experience to its fullest. And those elements were now reunited, so we though it was the best possible time to launch and achieve it's purposes and the objectives we set during it's development" which says nothing.

I'd be half way through getting all gold licenses by then, and won't give a hoot about any lame excuse...

Minus this

I have just heard from a source (yet to be determined if reliable) that GT5 is stated for release September 2010.

The reason for it's delay was not the game, the game is in fact complete. The delay was due to the 3D technology in the TV's. Every Manufacture used different methods to produce the 3D, and GT5 glitched badly depending of the brand of TV.

So it was delayed to I guess work out the issues, whether they were GT5 itself or the TV's. It wads delayed to work on the PS3 firmware or something.

Ofcourse just speculation, but it's close to the official reason given for the delay which was production issues ( but then again this could mean anything ).
Whether we'll ever know, to be honest I'd rather not be aware of the fact we'd have to wait for 3D to be correctly implemented.
Nor do I probably care anymore once I get the game unless those glitches affect 2D as well ( which they probably don't ).
What if Premium means only cars/tracks available to experience in 3D?
If that's true ( and it most likely isn't ) I'll be laughing so hard..........;)

Yeah I knew, I'd better say Piggy 917 and Puggy 908 or "Karl" 917 and "Rudolf" 908.....;)

Too bad for some reason, most people don't like Piggy as much Karl and Rudolf.

What I can't understand is the huge demand for a track editor. Considering so many people readily acknowledge KY's obsessive fetishistic nature when it comes to the game, I don't know why they think he'd let any 12 year old design some track. MNR's track creator is incredible, sure, but it doesn't lend itself well to the hyper-realistic standard GT has. A livery editor is different; while I'm sure there'll be plenty of fairly awful/questionable paintjobs, it's just a skin on a car. It's not a whole new car. A track creator undermines both the real tracks and the PD-constructed ones; does Kaz want some kid's rough approximation of Bathurst floating around (and dozens of other similar copies)? Do you really think after all the talk of the amount of effort that goes into every track, they'd let users have even a portion of the tools needed to create something akin to Deep Forest?
The bold part is simply a gut level reaction, much like many of us had to the early calls for body kits, "rims," and a livery editor. In fact, the livery editor is still a sort spot with a few. I can understand the sentiment, since I'm not sure how many people would consider The Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo a proper racing livery. Or something even gaudier and stupider.

And it's the same deal with a track creator. Saying "Who wants to race on a bunch of crude, even bad tracks?" doesn't make any sense. You act like you won't have any choice, that GT5 will take over your PS3 and auto-download ever gigabyte of custom track on the network. Or start generating tracks for you, if you fail to open the Track Creator after a certain amount of game time.

You know, you do have to make or download these tracks in ModNation Racers on purpose, right? ;)

This is what vexes me about people with rather pushy opinions. "No, you can't have body kits or a livery editor. I don't care if real life race cars use these features, you might mess up a car and I'll be offended." We've certainly suffered through enough of that.

And suppose a track creator is included. Will you guys complain about it? I know people whine about the silliest things these days, like what I call the "dinkmobile" car races in all previous GTs. People don't race them, and yet still complain about them as if they were forced to?? Whatta planet this is.

The point for me is... most people (I) don't care for 3D, livery editor or track editor, at least not on a GT game, or not on version 5 at least.

And it makes mad to think of any one or more of those 3 "nice to have" features delaying the game release even more, especially knowing it's "basically finished".

And please don't start the "it's never been delayed" BS talk again... read my sig.

Yeah, You are probably right. It's just frustrating to have been a part of all these endless discussions about the delays and development time for so long and, probably we will never find out for sure.. Of course, when it's released we will get some good pointers though :)

This whole livery/track-editor fear or reservation some people have is based on the focus on negative possibilities or aspects only it seems, which ofcourse will undoubtedly happen.
I don't care if some people with poor taste or lack of talent make some truly awful creations, I only care for the creativity and possiblities me and others are given to explore and inspire each other to greater heights perhaps.

If YouTube, for example, was disregarded purely for the tons of tasteless and mediocre content it provides without looking at the possiblities of sharing, being creative or the amount of good content it also provides it wouldn't be where it is today ( even if only used as a source for passive users, like downloadable self-created tracks could be for GT5 ). :)

...on the other hand, maybe you're right analog. They better have all those creativity options. So that when I'm 50 years old, and finish GT5 for the 3rd time, I'll still have something to keep me entertained as I wait for GT6.

Speculation,
This article is about a Yamauchi Interview with Joypad (France) 11th June(Today)

The French magazine Joypad has got an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi in which the great chief of Polyphony reveals characteristics of the next title of the popular simulator.

- All cars and tracks of GT4 will be included
- More cars and tracks will be downloadable
- 4 views of race (presumably include the long awaited booth)
- Damage to the race cars (that were significant "that only some of them have or will be applicable to all?)
- All Ferrari and F1 cars
- New street circuits
- From 12 to 20 riders in online gaming
- Climatology variable during races

Do You have a link? If this is from an interview with KY himself, why is it speculation? Awesome if this is true! :)

Edit: Just saw that it is from a magazine...

May we have a link to that? My french isn't all that bad, though I am a bit rusty. :)

EDIT: False alarm it seems. Piff and twaddle to it! :)

Haha :) Just saw it! I jumped when i read that we would get dynamic weather during races... LOL

Just got my DFGT wheel today from Argos. First time it's been available from that supplier I think. Certainly wasn't in the last catalogue.

First thing i'll be doing is seeing if it is possible to complete (GT5) without buying a car.
Actually, this is the way I approached GT4 and the three Forzas. You can't do it, but it's kind of a fun challenge to see how far you can go with just one car, modifying it as little as possible, and then using cars you win in races where they qualify. You can progress quite a fair lot, and save buckets of cash if you can refrain from car shopping.

I couldn't stay out of the used lots though. Whenever they updated, I'd browse them up and down, looking for keepers. ;)

Uhm, EU Playstation Blog Twitter says:
"Who said weekends are quiet? Two huge announcements on the EU PS Blog on Saturday morning!"

Considering that there's pretty much one big showing pending at E3, there's a chance that SONY might throw us another bone. Having the Nurb complex revealed a month ago was a really nice appetizer.
