You might have missed that Gran Turismo 5 was announced for release November 2 of this year.
Well we now have a few more details on the game, courtesy of Matt (Diz), who called in from E3.
Here is what he saw while attending a press conference that focused on the game. Read more to see how the approximately 1,000 cars will breakdown and feel.
Matt said the game demonstrated at E3 wasn't the complete build. That is expected to debut in August during GamesCom.
There was no discussion of online play.
The Cars
Okay. There will be 800 standard cars and 200 premium cars. The difference will be noticeable. The premium cars will have greater details in pretty much all aspects, including the vehicle's undercarriage and dashboard.
Both types will be available in the game, though. So don't worry about paying for the premium.
DLC
There are plans for DLC and contests, but they didn't get into specifics.
Graphics
Graphically, the game is beautiful. There is a great focus on the details, which has become a GT hallmark. During the press conference, Matt said it was difficult at times to tell the difference between footage of real vehicles and cars created by Polyphony Digital.
The development team focused on everything from the brake rotors, collision sparks, smoke illumination, and various headlight intensity. Drivers will be able to flash slower vehicles, for example.
There will also be a day to night transition.
NASCAR
The game shown at E3 had nine licensed NASCAR vehicles, but many more are coming. Also, NASCAR has requested that the cars be available for more than just the NASCAR tracks. So expect to take a stock car to Italy.
Racing Circuits
There was no mention of how many tracks the game will have, but they talked about four circuits. These will take players to Rome, Italy, Spain and Germany.
In Germany, GT5 will heavily feature Nürburgring, the 24-hour event. Players will literally be able to race all-day in this event though they won't be required to. You can expect to see spectators camping and grilling out, by the way.
Photo Mode
There will be two photo modes in the game. The first will be the standard race photo mode. The second one will be travel mode. In this, players will be able to drive to designated locations of tracks and tour the area.
It will automatically go into a camera view that will allow for a little roaming around both the vehicle and track.
Player Lounge
But what do you do with all those pictures? Simple. You share them with people through an in-game lounge. Here is where you'll be able to display your career status, unlocked trophies, photos, and communicate with friends you've invited to your lounge.
The lounge will also incorporate what is called "Gran Turismo Life." Be ready to monitor how your friends are doing and to read a stream of comments that will be readable in-game.
Face Tracking
Anybody with the PlayStation Eye will be able to use the camera to track your face. This will adjust our in-game view to match where you are looking in real life.
