I think it looks really good..

And these guys are happy: http://n4g.com/news/546935/latest-i...-cars-have-less-detalis-than-premium-ones/com

This is BS! After 5 years now this???! 👎👎👎

...SURPRISE!

I think Kaz might end himself if he hears all this disappointment

I wonder if this Espirit is a standard car. Although it looks tooo good to be standard, this might give me hope for GT. Although that Audi LMS car really really killed it for me.

Oh for crying out loud!!

Nowhere does it say there's no cockpit view!

Kaz stated the standard cars don't have an 'interior view'. This means they haven't modelled all the seats, transmission tunnel, door trim etc. Hence when you see the vids of the standard cars, they have tinted windows and just an silhouette of the seats, as opposed to the Enzo which has clear windows and a fully modelled interior.

You will still be able to drive the standard cars from 'in car'/cockpit view complete with modelled dash and instruments, they just won't have the fully modelled 360 degrees interior like the premium cars.

How much clearer can it be! :nervous:

See guys? This is venting...

You're aggravating people with the "No Cockpit" drama :)

Let's wait and see... But I now expect sub-GT5P cockpits. and that is a bit disappointing.

I really think Polyphony Digital as a company need to expand and start hiring a lot more staff if they're to keep up.

Obviously the 180 people they employ could get work done back in the PS2 days but now technology has improved and they also need to model/texture car interiors and create new tracks with acceptable visuals, they are going to really struggle as time goes by. I dread to think how long it will take them to get things done when the PS4 is released.

I mean take Turn 10 (Forza) for example. They have about 300 people employed and outsource car modeling/track creation to other companies. Now obviously their content is not of the same quality as GT5 but it does make it glaringly obvious that PD need to double the size of their development team at a minimum to get the content made it an acceptable and timely fashion.

Movable headlights - check
clear see-through windows - check (as opposed to tinted windows with only a silhouette of the inside/interior)
high detail exterior panels - check (as opposed to pre-rendered exterior à la GT4)

The Esprit is "premium"!

Almost never post in the forum, but I just what to share my thoughts about the standar and premium cars.
+200 Premium, amazing looking cars is great, GT3 has less than 200 cars, if I'm right, and GT3 is a great game, or was at it's time.
The standar cars looks like Gran Turismo 4.5 or something. But keep in mind this, GT5 has a new light system, and it is applied to ALL cars, standar and premium. The light refrected form standar cars is brand new GT5 light, not the old GT4 light. The cars don't look that bad in the video, maybe because it is a pre-rendered video (I think it is), but we'll have to see gameplay videos to know better.
And remember that now we have the posibility of downloadable content, so there will be more premium cars as time pass. We have a lot new features that will improve gameplay. Just look at the 800+ cars as a bonus, as someone said before.

Is just sad that a lot of people are looking at GT5 as a half-empty glass. I see it like 3 full glasses of water in the desert. But it's still a game, nothing more, nobody's life depends on this game (I hope so)

What is that weird, striped thing behind it? Th red car looks like the g35 super riced out coupe which is PREMIUM. Since all the races we've seen so far haven't mixed standard/premium cars(who knows if that's even possible) I'm assuming the Esprit is PREMIUM.

Reading about Top Gear Test Track, it doesn't have pit lane. So what happens when you damage your car? I assume fuel and tyre wear will be disabled since you can't change them

Every racer this generation have cockpit view in all cars. It's a basic feature in racing games for a few years already. A next step in the racing genre a lot of people were waiting for, that was only made possible in this generation. A feature expected by anyone who buys a racing game even if they don't plan to use it. It's arguable that there are too many cars to make cockpits for but that's an excuse. When developing a game there are hundreds of decisions to be made. Knowing they could not do it for 1000 cars PD should have dropped the car count. From the industry standpoint, you're better of making a game with 500 cars with a feature every gamer already take for granted, than innovating in one area at the expense of a critical area like this one.

PD already took big decisions like this one before. For example the significant reduction in car and track count from GT2 to GT3. They had to choose between improving the graphics and reducing the car count or taking a long time developing the game to do both. They chose dropping the car count. A wise solution since a long development time is costly (in many ways) and entering the next generation with previous generation graphics is so stupid it has never been heard of.

This time however PD decided to go with the long development time. And indeed they came up with a game so mind-blowing that even the lack of a crucial feature can't seem to be a big problem. It's out-shadowed by so many other features. But either way, PD dropped the ball. It was a given that GT5 would have 1000 cockpits. The thought it wouldn't was so otherworldly that most people refused to believe otherwise until it wasn't possible anymore. And some still do. As they (me included) refuse to believe we will only have 20 tracks.

Personally, those standard vids look pretty great to me, the exteriors look great even if not quite as detailed as premium.

If you're completely offended at the quality of the 800 standards, lets say you just consider 200 premium models and a minimum 20 tracks, look at the detail and what they've accomplished, does this not represent enough entertainment for you to justify the cost of a $70 game?

And PD goes the extra distance and includes upgraded versions of a whole slew of cars they couldn't hunt down and re-model, this is a great thing, much better than just excluding them, and much better than skipping them to invest the effort in an additional few premiums. Personally I'm thrilled they did it, and I plan to make good use of them as well.

Take a step back and look at the potential in this game, PD just released 7 freaking pages of official info and it's got PLENTY to be excited about, not to mention that this kind of open communication is unheard of from them.

All due respect, but it's really sad to see pages and pages of harping on the only possible bad news you can pull out of all this while we ignore all the good.

3 full cups in the dessert? >>> Life preserver... but not enough...

But overall, i would have to agree with your post 👍

Standard cars are indeed : GT4.8
Premium cars are : GT5 caliber 👍

But knowing that they took this long to come to this point, now i feel a bit of the bitterness as i would like to have more content than this... say 1200 cars at least?
(because taking all the GT4 contents and dumping them in GT5 with a slight touch of Botox... hum.... they could have add bit more than 200 additional cars in the last 5 years?!)

What is that weird, striped thing behind it?

The Esprit is pulling the G37...? :dunce:

but seriously:
Center line divider? i dont think you need to worry about that too much.

I'm torn because while they still look good, they are awful when compared to the gt5p 599 for example.
Just the lack of texture makes them look so bad. It looks like it's just a big vinyl sticker over the shape of the car.

Best post in this thread today. In the end, this is what it all comes down to. It's a game. Albeit my favorite one.:)

No, the black car behind/next to the esprit. Looks like a Dodge Charger headlight sort of.

It's a Camaro with the factory hood/trunk and side stripe package.

Also regarding the standard car models. Not all of them are GT4 models. The '69 Camaro and '70 Challenger are both identified as "Standard" models but if you look at the screen shots they are clearly not high resolution GT4 models

If exterior of standard cars looks like this I don't even want to know what interior would look like

Ok now, mathematically:

If Standard cars = cars taken from GT4 that are enhanced to an "acceptable" level of GT5 resolution

AND Since GT4 cars do NOT have interiors...

Therefore
we can conclude that Standard cars do NOT have interiors ? 👍

Its not so much that all this happened, its just that after 5 years you would have thought they accomplished more. I get the sneaky suspicion that the development cycle for GT5 was full of challenges, set backs and overall problems and as a result we are where we are.

Actually its a little weird that the LMS Audi looks that bad because if you remember, GT3/4 had more detailed models in the garage than ingame so i would think they'd use those.
This one looks as though its the lower res game model by those headlights made from only a texture as it seems.

Anyway i dont mind too much, the more "important" cars will be mostly premium so...

I don't know if is beacuse I'm still happy for the mexican victory in the world cup but Those cars looks good for me, like we say in México you people "Are doing a storm into a glass of water", after looking all the new features in the game I think this is a minor issue :sly:

No, it's just because they don't have enough people working on the game. Polyphony Digital is too small right now which is why they're struggling to get content done, only 180 or so people makes it obvious why they could only get 200 cockpits done.

When you also add in the fact that they model cockpits off photos etc, that also reeeeeeally slows things down. Turn 10 for example just laser scan everything which is why they can get it done so quick (although employing waaaaaay more people to work on the game also helps).

PD just really need to expand and start hiring people. Their development team should be twice the size by now.

this is a bit better:

that's the attitude mastretta_mx... 👍

As for me, i am sad for France... a disgrace!

Haha dont be sad for France. We have to change this poor manager now and rebuild a team for 2012.

For standar cars im not disapointed for graphisme, but i wait for cockpit view. It will be terrible for drive to not have this view.
