At a press conference Thursday at the Toyko Game Show, Gran Turismo 5 Developer Kazunori Yamauchi disclosed additional features so far unrevealed by the E3 2010 and GamesCom 2010 conferences.

First up is a series of new tracks and cars. Laguna Seca, Trial Mountain, and Circuit de la Sarthe may all be familiar to racing buffs -- but the cars are a bit strange. The Kbelwagen, Schwimmwagen, Samba Bus, and 4200R are all technically "old" cars developed years ago -- but maybe people haven't ever seen them. Additionally, Kazunori also revealed the GT by Citron R.

Next, Kazunori revisited the My Home social networking feature built into GT5. In addition to status updates via browser and track-sharing tools, he revealed a Remote Racing feature where friends can race via web browser using the b-spec mode. Players can leave their PS3s on, creating servers for these web-based games.

"Right now the browser game industry and the console game industry are two totally different things," Kazunori said through a translator. "But [this mode] is the first [that] bridges the two."

Kazunori briefly touched on the game's special-events system using a live demo of Rally Mode. In this dirt-track mode, the courses are generated dynamically right when you load into the course. A navigator calls out turns, or you can use a course-overlay view to track turns. Like a real-life rally race, times are cumulative, and other cars get to start first.

Lastly, Kazunori revealed the Dynamic Weather Changes system. For courses where applicable (like the endurance run courses), a "forecast" set by the developer creates conditions for weather events to occur. For example, a course my be "partially cloud" and then during the race, the player may experience rain or sleet. The effects of weather create real road challenges, like a slick road at night that reflects lights oddly or a dry desert course with sand blowing in front of the windshield. Kazunori said this is a feature that'll probably be more for the hardcore than the casual racer.

Yamauchi wasn't joking when he said this will revolutionize racing games like GT1 back then when it was released. I'm completely blown away.

Yea i hope and think GT6 will be a ps3 title.

GT5 is the platform and GT6 will just be more content and features. All the hard stuff should have been done during the past 6 years. 6 years man that is a long time

Well pretty much nearly all the features you'd want in a racing game are now there, for GT6 they could refine those features a little, but I hope the main aim for GT6 now is content, cars and tracks specifically, and all in premium!

First off, wow for that weather video, it's better and more than I hoped it would be ( and yes, working wipers!! ) with humidity and temperature differences included.......
As for the Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen ( very nice ), did anyone else notice when the interior of the Kubelwagen is shown in that weather video, there seems to be a Volkswagen T1 or T2 van/bus in the background at around 45 seconds?

All news, videos and such are just GREAT! I'm left with one worry because I'm a peculiar kind of gamer. I'll explain:

1 - I love endurance racing;
2 - I absolutely refuse to have the PS3 doing that for me.
3 - My play time is limited to a couple of hours (almost) every night.
4 - Can't "block" the PS3 24/7 because I have kids that play with it during the day.

So ...

I NEED to be able to save an endurance race (in the pits, I'm asking no more) in order to resume it at a later date!

PLEASE!

Not that important but its always been a trademark of the GT games to keep a solid 60fps at all times.

I don't agree that 60FPS has always been a trademark of the GT Series.

The PlayStation series of Gran Turismo games were running 30FPS and the PlayStation 2 era delivered 60FPS but only in the US and Asia markets. In Europe, the entire Gran Turismo series has always been running far slower than what other markets have been receiving.

Gran Turismo 5 is the first global GT game to be running 60FPS in Race Mode.

So long as the game isn't glitching and lagging on those FPS speed drops I don't care.

Really?? Thats strange why would they give europe a different product?

I guess i meant since the PS2 titles it has been a trademark.

I fully agree on the SAVE feature.

But I'm dreaming for quite some time now of some online endurance races 2/3 hours with some guys we know :) EPIC WINTER WEEKENDS I FORESEE IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS! :dopey:

Do not mistake 50/60Hz option for fps.

It harks back to the pre-Dreamcast era where NTSC signals were not converted for PAL Televisions.

PAL TV's offered better quality picture by having over 100 extra lines on screen than their American and Asian counterparts. However, Videogames had to be converted to account for the 100 extra lines and most developers and publishers could not be bothered.

Sega started the trend by offering full screen and full speed conversions with the Dreamcast, but HDTV and the standardisation of HDMI have removed the stumbling block.

So with Prologue and Gran Turismo 5, us PAL gamers can now experience GT how Polyphony originally intended it!

Wait... I'm actually kind of worried. Remember NFS Pro Street on the PS/2? Could it be like THAT?? *bites nails frantically*

So i've been subjected to sub standard quality this whole time?!! GT4 never seemed to have frame rate issues for me. GT5P has far worse frame rate issues than gt3 or gt4 had

I'm not.

I said that 60FPS has not been a hallmark of the series and prior to GT5 Prologue, no GT game in Europe has ran how it was intended by Polyphony.

This is getting messy.

The games frame per second rates, output resolution, TV resolution and the TV's refresh rate are getting all muddled up.

Go find out what each one is, and then post.

Puddles confirmed? (see the car ahead in the end part of the gif) :D

Why blame GT if the PAL format is the one to blame here!? >_>

Nonsense! *flips table*

On a serious note, they are practically the same thing no? People can argue the difference between 30 and 60, but 50 and 60?

As irnbrutwinturbo says, if you're interested then you should be able to read about the differences online. I'm not sure if New Zealand is a NTSC or Pal region?

The PAL Gran Turismo games are running as they should but are subject to boarders on the top and bottom of the screen and an estimated 17.5% speed reduction.

Bar those 2 problems, no other performance related issues should effect the games.

All television sets sold in the EU have been obliged by law in the 90's to have at least one 60 Hz canal. Most games did only the necessary PAL format update (better resolution @50Hz) but when the PS2 came around, most games used PAL 60Hz.

Then each game was running at it's own FPS.

And the recent news have the kind of physical effect on me that only playful minded ladies used to. Might be something wrong with me.

but HDTV and the standardisation of HDMI have removed the stumbling block.!

Not really, the PAL and NTSC differences are still in effect. PS3's come in both flavors. Most content downloaded from the US psn store is in NTSC, where the content on the EU stores are in PAL. Most TV sets can handle both formats without any problems nowadays, but I'm one of the people with an old set that doesn't. Some content I get from the US PSN store shows on my set as black&white, and blocky.

Now for gran-turismo.com to update and we'll be able to marvel at the HD versions of them new trailers. 👍
