Yeah these vids are just making me want the game more. I always had faith in PD, but this is better than I hoped.

Every time I've tried watching that one on Gamersyde it never worked, thank goodness for the YouTube version.👍 It is nice to see the Eiger Long version on the track map, and interesting to see the AI make a mistake in the wet and spin, but the AI do seem alarmingly slow in the rain (hopefully down to the physics and difficulty selected or something.

Same here - Gamersyde should change their name to Gayersyde 'cos their videos rarely stream, so you are forced to download, and when you do, they have no audio, or at least the ones I download don't.

Anyway, nice to see it on YouTube, but everytime I see the behind-the-car view in that video, it just looks like the car is floating above the surface.

Where is this livery from if not from a livery editor.

Just it got me wondering if kaz is hiding this to suprise us and make us feel really happy about the game.

(Sorry its so brief I'm typing from a school pc during IT lessons.)

That's soap.

From what I can figure:

  1. Garage
  2. Custom Race? Allowing you to select a track and start a track day or custom event rather than a pre-planned A-Spec event.
  3. Replay Studio
  4. B-Spec Driver Management?
  5. Photo Gallery (From Photomode)
  6. Background Music (BGM) Settings/Editor
  7. Diary/Journal or Car Facts/History/Specs
Can't figure out what the suitcase represents.

b1: Information, Could be Driver Information/Journal or Car Facts/History/Specs
b2: Settings
b3: Unknown, but could be a recording feature (for uploads to youtube?), or a shortcut to something else.
b4: Help
b5: Exit to main menu, I presume.

c1 is just showing that we either choose our own avatar or the PSN avatar goes there.

Numbers by A and B in the top are your A and B Spec Level, respectively, bar is how many experience points (XP) until next level.

Car Delivery is probably regarding the "Gifting" option friends now have.

Edit:  @ PA

My guess would be the suitcase if for exporting/syncing (how do you spell that) your profile, that's what they are normally associated with on PC's (my suitcase).

OMG look at graphics!! There is no PC driving game with graphics even close to those. (and PS3 has 256 of ram and 5 year old 7800 GTX GPU basically :) )

Sadly, It does leave you with that feeling that all the hard work is there and the only thing keeping the game from looking absolutely out of this world is the hardware. Just Imagine perfect shadows, rock solid fps @60, photo-mode shaders, more and longer lasting dirt and smoke, 8x AA @ 1080p. You could almost say that it is next gen ready (with some work on the tracks).

There seems to be lots of slowdowns during the replays, its bearable, the broken shadows on the other hand......

Makes Sense. I'll add that to my post.

I've just read this:
"Step forward virtual test driver Sebastian Vettel who took the X1 Prototype for a shakedown around Suzuka in Japan.
On his first virtual lap, the German beat the lap record – set by Kimi Raikkonen in 2005 – by more than 20 seconds"
To be honest I expected this X1 to be the fastest car on the game but 20 seconds faster than an F1 car on the first go?
Going up against this will be a monster challenge but using it will end up being boring as it'll be too easy :(
I've just looked at the times, Suzuka fastest lap was 1'31.5xx Online rankings for Suzuka is 1'28.0xx so that means this x1 is atleast 17 seconds faster than the f2007.
X1 must have done a lap in 1'11.xxx or under..

Apparently GT5 is available to play at a Playstation 'hub' in Dublin Ireland for the next few months. I cant verify this yet, but this article seems to suggest it is true. Hopefully I can check it out soon.

You know what? If SONY made the PS4 basically a 16-cell (up from the 8-cell we've got now) and replaced the NVidia 7600 (or whatever they're calling the ps3 version) with a 480GTX then there would be no competition. Of course, the gap between companies who like the architecture (Crytwk, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, PD, FROM Software, etc) and those who aren't that good with it would be even bigger. That said, it would enable gratutious amounts of awesome.

There's a reason sans-serif fonts are preferred in typed and printed medias.

The other way around, no? >_>

*IF* PD had access to a more powerful system, I don't think they would settle for "GT5 running smoothly". Like any other developer, they would push it harder and beyond, given the development cycle\budget.

Why does GT5 look soft? texture wise? it's like the environment lacks body or say weight in detail. I mean the cars look amazing but everything else looks hazy like the tire smoke, especially the dirt/sand looks like a faint mist and the shadows in the interior are all boxed up. Can we say for sure yet that some of this stuff will get fixed before release?

But the shadows better be fixed because I love the interior view and I'll be very very disappointed if this is not fixed or polished up.

It's called motion blur and depth of field

Well, not really complaining for you to change it. But you could space things out ("quotes" and then your post\impressions\opinion).

It's just "hard" because of aliasing and the fact that I can't really change the text size on this computer without screwing up proportions and what not.
Anyway, sorry, this is going OT.

You 2 are the first people to have ever complained about me using Palatino Linotype as a font.

Can you try making it a bit bigger? When you're posting paragraphs of stuff it's not nearly as legible as the default font.

Loving the rain videos, especially the fact that it looks every bit as good as the trailers. Absolutely insane...

Lets hope that if its a Cell based processor, it has improvements in the module design and is easier to work with. The resolution bump in the current generation really put a strain on the GPUs. The broken shadow problem is quite ubiquitous in the current generation.

Next time around though, major focus would be on the overall image quality as the resolution is expected to top out at 1080p. (Not to mention the much more efficient shaders and techniques).

As far as "pushing the hardware" is concerned, I know PD are the best at squeezing the most out of the hardware but I think it is more important to have a steady frame-rate and a consistent look (the in game frame rate is steady. I just love watching replays that are so life like, to me its the feature that no other racing game has). GT3 & GT4 were awesome considering the PS2 hardware but one rarely got the feeling that it is too much for the console.

With the videos from the TGS, it seems some blatant visual problems are still there. I know it does look amazing most of the times but overall, I do consider GT5 to be a mutant GT version.

What I hope to see from here onwards is a GT game that comes out within the first year of the console launch (GT is an exclusive, and you just have to lose some level of quality to support your platform). That means a GT for the PSP2 before the mid of 2012 (PSP2 reference dev units are already out). And GT6 by 2013 holiday season (assuming PS4 comes out in fall 2012).

I hope to be completely blown away by GT6 when it is one of the best looking games on the planet, not for a certain console/genre. Something that would put the PC to shame. Kind of like GT3.
