All Porches look the same. Heck, the Panamara is basically a 911 Wagon. Even their SUV has the 911 front end. It's boring. And it's crazy 'cause other manufacturers have discontinued cars that didn't change their appearance over the years (Hona/Acura NSX and Lotus Esprit among them)

Why fix it if it ain't broke? ;)

And? You said porsche was the most boring manufacturer in the world, you didn't say all their cars look the same.
Just because you don't understand why something is the way it is, which you show quite a lot, doesn't mean there's something wrong with it.
As for the bit about the NSX, the way it looked had nothing to do with it being discontinued. It looked the way it did for so many years because it looked great. The car was canned cause sales were falling, just like the supra, and the rx7.

because it's boring. And it's not just the design that's the same, either. They pretty much just add a new engine to it every year and call it a "New Car." Perhaps they should just show the new engine at autoshows. And when people ask "Why only the engine?" they can answer "oh, this is just going in the old 911 and then we'll package it as a new car." It's lazy. Ferninand Porsche would turn over in his grave at the laziness of the mordern designers. Maybe VW will come in and slap them around and get them to actually design something new.

because it's boring.

Well, thank god porsche don't care about what you think about their cars.
Ferdinand Porsche turning in his grave? Really?
I understand you're a "writer" but jeez, this ain't a tabloid.

Well, think about it. When Mr. Porsche was alive, Porsche had a lot of different designs and models. Now that he's dead, there hasn't really been a dramatic design change in almost 2 decades. The biggest design change in a long time has been the changing of the front end and lights.

I love Porsche's, at least those build before the 911 went from air-cooled to water-cooled engines.
They've become far too conservative, retaining the basic shape of the 911 I can fully understand but basically all Porsche's since have become variations of that 911 shape ( and not very pretty, and that's an understatement ).
I hate the Panamera and Cayenne, not for what they are ( as I applaud the idea of a Porsche 4-door or even SUV ) but how they look.

They are basically stretched and enlarged 911-clones without the coherence of a 911 ( which still looks great ).
The last truly original Porsche roadcar was the 928 which dates from 1977 and thankfully I'm not alone in thinking they're far too conservative.
Porsche is readying itself to be a part of the Volkswagen group and the overall head of Volkswagens design department ( overseeing the design direction of all brands ) Walter da Silva ( previously employed by Alfa Romeo and more recently head of design at Audi ) has recently said the design direction Porsche has taken is too conservative.

They clearly forgot, being more of a hedgefund the last years, that the core of the company is building great and great looking cars.

I don't agree with everything that Porsche does either, mind you. ;) But calling their cars "boring" simply because you happen to dislike their looks is incredibly ignorant.

That's true, some of the most ugly cars can be very exciting ( even to look at sometimes, so ugly it somehow becomes beautiful again ).
I'm not saying Porsche's are boring, they must be one of the most exciting and well-engineered cars around.
They used to be quite beautiful ( in a form follows function kind of way ) as well, now they lost their shine at least to me, because apart from a few exceptions their current line-up is not only boring ( as in bland or conservative ) but plain ugly.
I really hoped after seeing the Cayenne for the first time that it would be one-off mistake or having to do with the limitations of a shared platform ( Q7 and Touareg ) but after seeing the Panamera.....oh dear.
Please Mr da Silva, take control and get rid of those who dare to call themselves "designers", it really is that bad in my opinion.;)

I actually hope da Silva isn't the one in charge of designing the next round of Porsches. His designs are all similar to one another; he doesn't have a lot of range. While it's great he's got a signature look, it's resulted in an Audi lineup that looks nigh-on identical to one another (the A8 now failing to look expensive, and just looking like a stretched A4). Considering that was the easy criticism levelled at pre-Bangle BMW's (the "different links of sausage" complaint), it's odd Audi seems intent on making their cars indistinguishable. Oh wait... they do take more than a hint of Bangle's flame-surfacing now...

The only people who call Porsches boring are the people who haven't driven them.

And Jeremy Clarkson. But, I'm sure their fun to drive, but they're not that exciting to look at. I mean, if you've seen one Porsche, you've seen them all. I seem to remember a Top Gear episode where they actually had the previous year's model and the new model and they were pratically identical. In fact, they were identical

You're one of those people who cares about Top Gear?

I'm... I'm sorry.

(If you're referring to the 997 and the 997.5... they aren't. If it was an inter-series comparison, like a 997 from 2006 and a 997 from 2007... congrats, the same can be said for Every. Single. Car.)

Top Gear is fun to watch. :P It is entertaining. I know that 95% of it is complete BS, but it's still fun to watch. And they still occassionally, have some factual stuff. And It really is hard for me to tell the difference between a 2008 Porsche 911 and a 2010 Porsche 911. Then again, I'm not a Porsche fan.

Well, the only facts they ever state is like bhp, top speed, ft-lbs of torque, etc. Stuff that you can't really get wrong. But the rest is opinion. They get in a car, drive it, then tell you what they think. So, technically they're facts are never wrong lol.

And Jeremy Clarkson.

Is anything you say, true? Last I saw he was saying how great the 997s were to drive and how they're the only supercars you can use everyday. He doesn't like the designs just like you, and me, and analog, and many others.

Red: Yes, Everything I say is true...to me. :P

Blue: That's what I'm talking about. I've never driven one, so I wouldn't know how well they drive, but I really have no desire to drive one because they're a bit boring to look at.

So are NASCARS. And F1 cars. And regular cars. And alot of old cars. And alot of muscle cars. Oh, and Dodge Vipers.

At least the Viper changed it's body style a few times. I mean, the RT/10, GTS, SRT10 and SRT10 Coupe all look very different.

And yes, NASCARS and F1 cars are pretty boring to look at. I don't agree that a lot of muscle cars are boring to look at, though.

Go compare a 996 Carrera, a 996 Cabrio, a 997 Carrera, and a 997 Cabrio and tell me they look the same.

Being willfully naive about a car's history doesn't help when making broad generalizations about it.

...Anywho, this is all Auto News talk. Not the Car List. We should take it elsewhere.

I don't agree that a lot of muscle cars are boring to look at, though.

Well, I'm biased. I really don't like muscle cars. If someone asked me if I wanted a classic '69 Pontiac GTO, or a '65 Mustang Fastback, or even somthing new, like 2010 Camaro, or a 2010 Mustang GT, over a Lambo? No competition. I prefer Italian. Heck, I'd rather have an Audi sedan, or a Nissan Altima than a muscle car. Whatever. Just my personal opinion.

So how about the Bugatti Veyron Super-Sport? ;) This car would make a great addition to the Gran Turismo series.
I mean 268 miles per hour at the Le-Mans circuit sounds great! Especially when it produces 1200 Horsepower!

I thought this isn't a wish-list :)

The car that will definitely show up in GT5 in the 599 GTO (and hopefully his badass, illegitimate twin half-brother the 599xx) which is slowly becoming my object of lust. Just listen to the sound. Though some might not agree but on my system once you've turned the sound up, a slight fiddled with the tonal balance (via an equalizer) and you'd hear the deep sonorous sound of the V12 engine quite spectacularly especially from inside the car. I can imagine how much more resonant the extra 60hp will bring.

In the beginning of the video the view when he is in the cockpit driving reminds me of those new GT5 interior cam views. 👍
