GT5 Master Track List (NOT a wishlist)

I think ring as in NurburRING, Twin RING Montegi, SachsenRING , HungaroRING, NorisRING, the term RING refers to a track. It's where cars duel. The same would apply to Boxing ring- where boxers duel but not in the case of the Ring Cycle (Der Ring des Nibelugen) although the whole thing is about battling for the ring.

Ehm... I actually thought that "ring" in those names were derived from the fact that they're closed-loop tracks, thus somewhat "ring-shaped". Just my ignorance conjecturing.

You're probably right but I'm constantly at battle with the obvious :)

Hmmm.... I thought Ring is just another name for a track. But I guess you wouldn't see that next to a point to point track. But how many permanent point to point tracks are there?

Anyway, I think it's just another name for "track".

About track names, just coincidentally found out today doing some 'research' into Japanese surnames for a friend ( don't ask ) the meaning of the name Yamauchi which apparantly is "within the mountains".
Maybe that's already common knowledge around here but it could perhaps explain the name Trial Mountain.......;)

In my opinion Trial Mountain was originally intended (in GT1) to be reminescent of japanese mountain pass (Touge) races, although it was set on what appeared to be a semi-permanent race circuit.

This is the full list of what I think were the intended concepts for each original track in GT1:

Trial Mountain -> Touge course
Autumn Ring/Ring Mini -> Local small japanese racetrack
Grand Valley/Valley East -> International japanese racetrack
Deep Forest -> Hilly european track
Special Stage R5/R11 -> Tokyo "underground" street race setting
High Speed Ring -> old Fuji Speedway lookalike

But maybe this is getting off-topic here :)

Just watching the TGS/Red Bull trailer and I think the shot of the Enzo on El Capitan must have been made for a PSP promo as it looks like the lower polygon car they built for that game. The Ice arena shot is taken from the PSP intro but I think everyone knows that one.

Also, is it confirmed that Chamonix is in the game? I'm wondering the trailer shows the snow course maker environment, it's hard to tell but the mountains look different at least.

If you mean the right down corner it seems like the apricot hill logo or autumn ring, the side of the logo is pretty similar to that bit that you are mentioning.
Didn't mean that but never mind, I was just going a bit mad from staring at the tracks too long. The tracks on the right match their logos, Autumn ring and Autumn ring mini.

The Weather Effects trailer shows Chamonix:

Maybe it's a new Chamonix course/variation (meaning that there would be two of them, if we include the original layout?). After all it's already been remade to show weather (snow in the video).
The original Chamonix was already quite long, so another version in addition to the existing one would probably be shorter in my opinion.
Or maybe we're getting a set of several courses like with the Eiger?

Food for thought...

Yes, but in this PSP intro, we can see the pits of Nurburgring GP too.

If I remember there were lots of run off roads and even a few visible roads in the distance in GT4, similar to Eiger.

There's potential for several point-to-point mountain climbing dirt/gravel (or snow, on Winter) rally tracks, after checking on Google Earth, if for "Chamonix" Polyphony Digital means the whole Chamonix commune and not the area immediately close to the Chamonix-Mont Blanc town itself.

Quote from Latest news and General discussion thread (about the 'We Love Cars' commercial):

By the way:

Could it be the same place?

I personally think this is the same place, and I never had a doubt in my mind that it would be a photo mode location (As they wouldn't have bothered modelling it just for the FT-86 video).

But I now also have a sneaky suspicion that PD may have even made a track out of this. From looking at all the pictures in the links you posted here and here, I would say that the location looks more than suitable enough to make a track from (fictional, but based on the actual roads and tarmac around the bay. I think something similar was done in the game 'Juiced'). Maybe it could even be used as some sort of Gymkhana course, however, that's just me being optimistic.

Sorry to divert away from Chamonix.

In my opinion, the FT-86 video is not Japan, but the Long Beach or Los Angeles harbor in southern California. The sun does not set over the ocean in Japan. And the more that I look at it, I think I can even see the islands that are off of the California coast.

This is a silly discussion, so I'm going to add the seagull activity suggests it's more likely to be sunrise.
Also, the FT-86 is shown accellerating along the dock environment very briefly, if that means anything.

Unfortunately, after checking, I have to agree that even if it's during the sunrise, it's probably not the same area, at least judging by the sun location:

In the video, the sun would be coming from the South, from what can be seen.
The location (cranes, etc) appears to be remarkably similar, however.

Don't ask me why. But I have always assumed that "Car Delivery" screen was in California.

The SpecIII trailer (with the CitroenGT, Evora, California) was 'shot' on the Daytona parking lot or something (judging by a lot of lights / stadium building in the background)

Couple of the screenshots of the new We Love Cars commercial have a google maps location shown however, which is Tokyo Bay, Yokohama, Japan, and as Shirakawa Akira pointed out, looks very very similar.

It may be Tokyo Harbor. It may be Long Beach. But it also may be every other large harbor in the world...
We can't know for sure just because of this We Love Cars commercial.
But I still think the place in the Toyota trailer is a photomode location ;)

I would assume, since it's a Japanese site, that it's in Japan, but it could be anywhere. Seattle has a good sized port, as well, as does San Fran, as can be seen in a lot of Mythbusters episodes. (Although, they used the abandoned Alemida Naval Yard, but it was still large enough to fit the freeway on Martix Reloaded.) Still, it actually kinda reminds me of a couple scenes from an anime series that takes place in Tokyo

Walked right into that one. :ouch: :)

By the way, I watched the video again, and it appears to be a sunrise. However, it is tough to say for sure, because it may just be a "fading in" effect. Also, I went ahead and pulled a picture from a harbor in the LA area. Personally, I don't think we will be able to say for sure either way, since there doesn't seem to be any defining features.

Here is the picture though.

Hockenheimring article

What track is this ?
Could it be Hockenheimring? Or simply Nuerburgring?
Sorry, I can't read german and haven't used an online translator tool yet.

EDIT:

It doesn't seem to be Hockenheimring... but from this sloppy translation it appears it will be included:

Google Translate

If Hockenheim is confirmed, then all other locations shown in the GT5Prologue weather screen have a chance to appear too.
