The second one remembers me of Dijon Prenois, though I might be wrong.

It can't be Dijon unless the track has an infield hairpin. If you look closely at the picture, you can see that the track, after the Esses in the foreground, the track seems to double back on itself as there is the corner from the esses layout to the straightaway and then inside of that, another 180º corner.

Thinking about it, the second track looks close to the old banked version of Fuji, or High Speed Ring with added sections.

It looks like a Fuji version with the track extended outwards towards the tire arch. Did the track ever double back on itself?

Unless the top of the page says "Inspiration we got from tracks we didn't use" :P

Alternatively, it could mean: "The tracks we are showing you on paper just to tell you we spent 5 years creating a game and the only thing we got was a picture of a track."

No, never, but as far as I know the track has never been really completed. The first version was a compromise obtained due to lack of money (although it was supposed to be a NASCAR superspeedway). Speculating a bit (a quick look at the Apex book content would quickly reveal what is that about), since GT5 is supposed to have "what if" scenarios, what if that track is a "perfect" version of the old Fuji Speedway, maybe partially based on High Speed Ring?

If we look only at its perimeter, it's really similar. Also the inner part on the west portion of the track map seems to be what can be seen at the end of the straight in the game (GT5P/GT5).

But its the inner part of the track that is throwing the curve. I really think that Fuji doesn't fit the bill unless they are pulling the XJ13 theory like what you have suggested Shirakawa. The only other inner part from a track that I know if is Donnington Park, hence my mention of it earlier.

I think that only Amar has got the Apex book. It doesn't seem he will spoil "big secrets" though.
A full scan of the book would be nice, but unlikely to happen anytime soon probably.

Anyone else find it to be a bit worrying that RDK is at level 20 and has only unlocked 2 kart tracks (if that)? Unless he's holding spoilers back, you would think he'd have unlocked something BIG by now.

He's holding it back most likely, if there's anything to hold back.

Some thoughts after looking at RDK image of SSR5 (Image 1)

The first image (Image 1) is coming back onto the front main straightaway. The second image (Image 2) is from the TGS2010 trailer of another track (SSR11?), of what appears to be of the cars approaching a main straightaway. In (Image 1) the structure holding the green information signs crosses over the main straightaway the clubman Stage portion entering onto the straightaway. In (Image 2) the structure holding up the green information signs is different & only crosses over one road. The buildings between the two images are different, though some of that could be lost to focal length compression. In (image 1) the tall building has lights on displaying the GT logo, in (Image 2) the lights are different.

You have to give it to Kaz and the lads, they don't do things half arsed

I never knew it was virtually identical. Always thought that a couple of roads were put in to join the circuit up.
Apart from a few scale errors, thats amazing.

The Night Trailer, Standard Cars Trailer & the TGS2010 Trailer.

The Night Trailer had a lot of what appears to be SSR5

After giving a lot of thought, I'd say it's

Sugo (without the chicane in the corner to your extreme left)

Fuji (1970-80) (even though I'm a bit confused because this second track looks to have another big straight, parallel to the main straight, or something like that)

Looking at the image of the track on top, it looks like the inner road course of a oval track that has a wide end & a narrow end.

Rough Sketch:

Did a quick look through all the NASCAR road courses, couldn't find any thing close. Still possible that it's based on a real world course, also the outside shape looks like the fictional Super Speedway.

Darlington comes to mind, but it doesn't have a road course.

Exactly what I thought.
But I'm having second thoughts about the possibility of it being an oval's road course, because the corner in the left looks shaped in a way that doesn't resemble a corner that is part of a merge with another piece of curve, it looks like a one-piece, you know?
Anyway, I can't be really sure because the picture quality is not that good and I'm looking at a highly zoomed image...hehe
