Yeah, but usually mics don't pic up wind noise very well, even though I can hear it with my own ears, not enough forec/amplitude in the waveform to make the mics work. So this level of wind and road noise is pretty accurate IMO

About the Carerra GT vid. I think when you close mic cars, that's what you end up with. Everyone knows that car has an F1 style howl from outside and nearby. But obviously in the video it doesn't sound like that.

All the cars in GT5 are close mic'ed, which I suspect is why they sound the way the do.

I think you might be right. This way, it's so dependent on where you put the mic as to what sound dominates in the recording (which gets processed to looping samples, which get blended in playback in the game.) So a lot of detail on the engine can be lost by putting the mic too close to the fan, or something.

Of course, PD still record the exhaust and occasionally the car on a dyno and the track, so the final blend / mix is still in their hands somewhat.

Sounds better in person for some reason Here is another one Let me know what you think about the muscle cars passing.

RrWdbPSxMKs

The fly-bys have definite oomph, or impact - but they did in Prologue, too.
This basically just sounds like Prologue to me (not all bad) - although there is an obvious drop in "quality" resulting from recording sound from TV speakers - but we're expecting an improvement over that anyway, so yeah, cool. :) 👍

JDMKING13:
I think you've left your hairdryer in that Enzo, I bet it's one of them fancy units, It has different speeds and everything, don't worry, I could hear it well, in fact, I couldn't hear the actual car at all...nudge, nudge, wink, wink, he said knowingly... ;) :dopey:

Anyhoo, can't wait for the review code, I'm getting sick of these placeholder sounds...👎

p.s. Don't think I'm taking the piss out of you, I appreciate the videos.👍

No prob man the Enzo sounds a little better when I play it compared to the Youtube videos but im waiting to hear the real thing to. Here is me doing some rally which is so damn fun I hated GT4 rally, but I can really get into GT5 rally 👍

JDMKING13, It's nice to finally see some vids where the cars actually stay on the tracks! I'm sure you don't mind playing but thanks for taking the time to post them.👍

No prob man I wish I had a wheel though. The physics are so good man, the controller does not even vibrate and I still have a strong feeling like i'm driving on the road. In GT5P It is very hard to race without a DS3 controller. GT5 gives the player a great connection to the car and road. I cant imagine how great this game is going to be man bring on November 2.

Yeah, but usually mics don't pic up wind noise very well

I always thought it was the complete opposite, and from personal experience recording Ive found that wind specifically can ruin the sound in a video,

That said you clearly have a bit more sound xp than me(or your quite the bluffer:)) so I won't argue about the recording techniques or such,

Still praying that most of these are placeholders,
I want this sound:

It ain't loud, but having experienced it in for real at Le Sarthe its just a fantastic sound, like the car is cutting the air in front.

And this:

MMmmmmmmmm!!!

I mean the actual sound of wind turbulence, not the buffeting from the air actually entering the mic. They're just not as sensitive as human ears.
So if you protect the mic from the buffeting, ie put it inside the car, it won't pick the the noises you can hear with your own ears.

Especially if you use a mic that can take the beating of something loud like a tuned car

Oh, I see what you mean now.

Same! I said that before, be quite weird if you replaced the stock exhaust with a 3"/4" and it still sounded the same, just not right.. :ill:

GT, historically, has accounted for changes in the engine etc. to produce changes in the sound it makes. Although, historically, it tends to be less accurate there than the stock sounds, on the whole.

I'm not worried about that, the concept by GT cars in GT5 sounded great, they have a real bark and nice tones.

Did you mean that poor V6 buzzing instead of burbling V8 in Ford GT tuned by Gran Turismo or that miserable inline four sound for V8 Corvette tuned by Gran Turismo? I can't believe you can seriously say that. Cars tuned by GT were the worst trash present in Prologue, they made Prologue only a game after well simulated other cars. I did not drive them at all after trying. Totally unrealistic behaviour and shi**y sound, what worse it could be?

He is probably talking about the tuned cars like the Lotus Evo 10 Etc i do agree with though the tunned muscles cars sounded weird.

Yeah, the American cars didn't turn out too well after "Tuning" - but that's always been the case with GT. The others were fine, in my opinion.

I hope that the promised sound improvements include a re-think of how they approach "tuned" sounds, regarding all cars, since GT historically has sometimes done some weird things with car sounds when changing exhaust parts.

^^^^ The rest of my post went missing which was strange, anyway I contiued to say apart from the American cars which sounded poor, the Ford GT LM sounded worst than the normal Ford GT and the Viper and Corvette also sounded errr weak?

But I really like the tunned lotus, tuned nissan 350z (It actually sounds remarkably similar to the nissan 350Z GT4 I saw at goodwood), and the mitsubushi's also sound nice.

Yes, the Lotus sounded nice and that is why I believe that PD can do better with other cars. For me, the Ferrari F430 has a similar loud sound as the Lotus tuned. Here's an example.

P.S. The video is not mine.

Ah, I understand. Someone else took the video and you where driving the car ;)

I hear the usual "racecar" samples from GT4, maybe slightly tweaked and with the new improved sound engine. It feels familiar, in a bad way.

The only positive thing I can say about that McLaren video, is that it's making enough noise. Really thin sound though, with no intake and a completely linear winding up and down from the throttle input  Makes it sound like some really tiny one cylinder motor not connected to anything.

Certainly not the sound of the stock F1 that i heard in a different video, certainly tuned noise. unless PD changed the noise for the final game. Big difference

Sounds like GT4....
Man I hope for hell this is not the final code....

Also the sound quality sounds quite rough, something is up

I think the Mclaren F1 passes 1:15 me after i"m done doing donuts sounds kinda mean.

^^^ If that was the finished game where was the back fires under heavy breaking? and they was definitely heavy breaking in the video.

The answer is they weren't there so it's old, still!!

I think coolcolj is right as usual, it sounds like a place holder.
