So I played Forza 3 today, and despite everything we've talked about, PD definitely does have some work to do. Now I'm not talking about replays because in GT the replays are amazing. But from the first person view of the car...to me at least, from what I played, I had quite an experience. I guess it helps that I was playing on my friends giant projection screen, and he had two 450 watt speakers hooked up and blasting in the room. All I can say is that I don't know if i would get the same feeling if I had prologue hooked up to the same setup. Certain cars might be close but I'm not sure.

After playing that though, my face was like :embarrassed:. It was quite the experience, not going to lie.

Having said that though, I'm not expecting the cars to be perfect in GT5, and as we've all already talked about, Forza is obviously not perfect either. If PD can get close I'll be happy. If they don't, sure I might be a little disappointed but hey I can definitely live with it with everything else we're getting. However, the sounds are almost guaranteed to be the best in the series, so at least we know they'll be improved in one way or another....whatever those improvements are though, is still to be determined.

Not trying to start another Forza vs. GT5 debate, but just throwing my 2 cents in now that I've experienced Forza's sounds at an incredible volume, and just judging by the feelings I had playing it, I'll know if the sounds are good or not in GT if I get the same feelings or not.

I guess I'm the opposite I do like the forza3 sound, but when I watch my lap replay :indiff: Forza has pretty good 1st person sound, but after that its not good, I hate replays I hate racing other cars because it sound like a bunch of noise. Its all good though people hate the sound of GT5P I think they are very good except for some cars M3 I'm talking to you again, but as a whole ill take GT. Glad you had a good time with Fm3 though man I love the wastegate sound on the turbo cars 👍

Edit I will take my Amuse 350Z over anything I actually had my neighbors knock on my door to here the sound, And sometimes when I leave replay mode on My bro thinks its an actual 350Z driving outside.

Yeah the M3 is ruined in GT5:P. I think it's again because of PD's odd approach to intake noise. The V8 M3 has a really prominent intake growl, and comparatively subdued exhaust "fizz", with that snarling V8 backbone.
Most of the car's sound is characterised by the intake, but PD have used some sort of "engine" sample instead of the intake, so it sounds whizzy.

The same applies to so many other cars.

My housemates used to get pretty pissed off at me playing GT5:P at some volume, which is part of the reason I play with headphones now. Although it was never as bad as that time I left an audio diagnostic tool running, which unexpectedly started pumping the audio buffers full of garbage at max. volume! I can only imagine what they must've initially thought (they never let on) but it was probably along the lines of "alien invasion"... :P

There is some pretty loud transmission whine in the background

What I like here is the noise of the tires when they regain grip at 0:10.
The rest... I don't find it that good, but it could be the low sound quality killing the engine/exhaust noise.

What I like is that the transmission noise is a distinct narrow frequency sound and that it stutters as power delivery changes. Some PC games just fake this effect by actually sampling that stutter. It shows they've been working on it since what we heard in the Time Trial/E3 which were more like what GT4 had.

Before it just blended into the engine sound. Incidently GT4 has better wind/road noise...

It seems like the sound is better, but I'm not going to be entirely confident until I hear it on a nice sound system when its in my PS3.

Yeah, we need to hear the final product to define whether it's improved or not, unless we're already hearing it :nervous: which I hope we're not.

Well I've said in the past that I don't really think the car sound in GT5p was that bad. It IS quite good, but in comparison to some of the cars in Forza 3, some definitely need some work, which has been covered thoroughly in this thread.

But as i said in my original post, I did say that the replays in GT were awesome, and not Forza.

I agree with you though that there are a few cars in GT that do sound awesome...the Amuse 350Z being one of them.

But yeah, I think all the other aspects of sound are in GT's favor, except for SOME of the car sounds, just my opinion after playing Forza really really loud. As I've also said though, I have faith in GT5 and even if it's not perfect, I'm confident that it will be better than other renditions we've had in the past.

Honestly, I don't think so. Unless your speakers are running HD sound or something and even so, there's still some extra compression to stream it across the net.

Hello all. I'm not sure if I'm the only one that noticed this. In the trailer at the Taiwan press conference I thought the GTR sounded splendid!

GT5p sound is first class regarding processing, doppler effect, echos of surrounding etc. But the sample work is done very miserably with reusing even fifteen years old samples from other cars, there are very few samples covering rpm range which often results in synthetically "slowened" or "fastened" feel of engine sound (for example M3, Audi R8 have only samples from 4k rpm fastened up to 8k and it sounds really bad). There is also no significant difference between sound of engine under full load, when just cruising or engine braking. That alone would make sound so alive and much better.

that 458 sound is just copy pasted from 430....
They have the same engine, but that doesn't justify the fact that, as we all know, the sound in gt5p/gt5 build is pretty far from the real ones, for both the F430 and 458 Italia.

I don't think we need to be reminded how sucky GT's sound is anymore.
I want a taste of that promised, improved final build already...
Forza does that intake growl pretty faithfully though.

Actually it has a Different Engine, which happens to sound different too :dopey:

after hearing M5 donuts i have hope in PD !

^^ in this video you can clearly hear VEEERYYY loud tire noise at the end of video.

I believe they're a lot more recent than the Gamestop videos of the track creator and Mclaren F1. Those videos feel like their back from a few years ago...

This is still the best sound we've heard from any build of GT5 so far. I do hope it is representative of the final build. It also appears the guy is driving it with a clutch as the downshifts sound manually heel and toed - press version

I'm sure the difference between this and the Gamestop Mclaren F1 video is plainly obvious... they can't be possibly be using the same sound engine...

In GT Academy the exhaust didn't have the "rumble" heard in newer builds (and in the comparison video despite the horrible quality); the engine sound felt in general too smooth, although in some ways, speaking of fidelity/accuracy, it was better than what we've heard in apparently more recent builds.

To me the Time Trial only had the interior sound duplicated outside, it didn't have the external exhaust sound layer like in Prologue. Most probbaly to keep the file size down, it was only 230 megs or so which is tiny!

The Processing and Doppler effect in this build sound better than any of the demos so far. It's like a different engine all together.
I can't hear any traces of GT4 or Prologue in it, unlike the Mclaren F1 vid which is straight up GT4 sounding. And the various demos which sound like Prologue.

Plus the throttle blips don't have that annoying tinny computerised blip like in Prologue/Demos. It sounds like someone is actually shoving the throttle pedal down with their heel. Something is definitely up....

Even the Gamescom demo vids, have that tinny throttle blips I speak of
