If you're saying the stock cars don't, you be telling a fib. By the way, you weirdoes with the silly fonts are way annoying and condescending.

One, my font and color choice have nary a thing to do with the discussion you're already trying to change the subject to. Nice try though.

Two, every car, just as you distinctively put it here:

Well, you certainly seem to have no problem with a certain other game, which has the player's car ALL sounding like race cars with no muffling to speak of, even stock VW Beetles, while the other cars sound like... wait for it...

Vacuum cleaners.

Does not sound like "race cars with no muffling to speak of... ." Let's use the Mini Cooper as an example - no, better yet, I'll attack the point the way you would: tell me that the CT230R does in fact sound more like the Gallardo than...the Gallardo (as it does in GT5), despite only having an 4G63 Inline-4.

Yes I do. I'm also not racing mid-engined cars in GTR. All I know is G25, GTR, GT5, similar experience. Your mileage may vary.

Especially considering I don't resort to such insufferable nonsense as "I can't feel the cars in Forza..." or any other such nonsense when you're essentially driving one game on rails.

Huh? Is that sarcasm, because the CT230R is clearly a four-cylinder, and sounds nothing like a V10. :odd:

The point is, the sounds in FM4 are distorted and mixed in such a away that they're convincing when the car is "fully tuned", except the majority sound just the same bone stock. It's a compromise, but not one that I like, either.

FM4 sounds terrible. Just bloody terrible. Again, PGR4 got it perfect, but there was such a small amount of cars so making a comparison is difficult.

Save for a few cars that lacked in comparison to everything on offer (like the CCX), I can never argue with this.

I also wouldn't say FM4 sounds bloody terrible either. :P

You have FF wheel?
Sure. But it doesn't tell me how well the tires are gripping. In a real car, that job is handled by things like my ear, my inner ear, my butt, my whole body. Now, maybe your butt tells you how well your car is doing in a video game, but mine tells me that I'm just sitting in my man cave.

While it's true that the stock cars are gloriously LOUD in Forza 4, they don't really sound like the real thing unmodified, save for some of the supercars and race cars. If you like the stock Mini Cooper sounds in F4, well then, Merry Christmas. This is one area where taste is the definer of "good sound."

Listened to the Citroen GT Race Car sounds and I finally figured out what its engine sounds are supposed to be. Listening to it as I revved it and held it constint at around 7300 RPM, I started hearing a tone very similar to the F430GT.

You know, while that car has a decent sound it's still missing a bit of depth to be worthy of F430/458 sounds, I think the RM Vette's soundtrack would be a better candidate for the GT/racing exhaust equipped 430/458...

Which one? The ZR1 RM and the Z06 RM don't sound the same.

ZR1, you know I never noticed it before but now that you mentioned it they really do sound different...

I find that the XKR Coupe '99 sounds fantastic in stock. One of the best standard road cars in my personal opinion.

I actually do like a car with a modified exhaust. The Spoon Honda Civic hatchback. It sounds awesome with the sports exhaust and as a bonus it's RPMs go way above 10k! It's one of the few sounds that think it's closest to the real ones and it's just beautiful! But most of them, especially in the chase camera, have wierd frequency sounds going from higher to lower frequencies, at higher RPMs, while running. It makes the exhaust sound more like wind which is really wierd (I think I just decribed the famous GT5 vaccum cleaner sound effect).
Anyway, I mostly notice this with the v10s, v12s and rotaries with high RPMs

Honda S2000 sounds the best with racing exhaust also! with my 7.1 I make the front speakers (engine) louder than my rears (exhaust) because the exhaust over power the engine.

My Golf R32 with titanium racing exhaust
and
my Fairlady Z33 with titanium racing exhaust
sounds
IDENTICAL!:yuck:

Change one?

I'm surprised how many people absolutely, positively got to have the most power in the room, that they cannot substitute the "titanium" exhaust...

Incidentally, I bet in real life it's possible to make them sound identical, given they're both six cylinders. The VR6 is an oddity, but not insurmountably so.

This. I managed to sqeeze the desired amount of power without using the Titanium Exhaust so its not as if its impossible.

Exactly! Rarely do you find a server where people are so competitive that the extra 15hp makes a difference.

They do sound quite similar in real life, you are right getting them to sound identical is quite possible! If you get a good set of equal lenght headers for the VR6 it will sound identical to a 350/370Z.

On topic:
Yea, same with me. I mostly use the stock exhausts and have no problem making my cars fast as well.

What's sad is that normally those people are so so competitive that just do whatever it takes to win, cut corners, block and even (especially) ramming. :yuck:
It just ruins the online experience. :grumpy:

I wonder if perhaps this method would work better:

Now I haven't heard the game this was recorded for, but maybe this could make for better sound mixing. All that would be required is to adjust the volume for each individual sound according to the camera placement. Maybe more gearwhine for the Onboard, Less Gearwhine and more of that engine bay sound for the roof cam.

Its what ruins public rooms for me.

Lol, I normally come across good and well moderated servers, but then again all I look for when I use GT5 outside of league racing is Nordschleife servers...

Lets hope it was recorded for GT5 and this is the patch we are getting!!

I think it was posted before, it's very interesting all the same. Especially given you can't hear the intake at all.

Anyway, it says at the beginning of the video that it was for NFS Hot Pursuit "2010" (obviously a nod to the other two games by that name...)

About the intake, in race cars and cars with very lod exhaust you can rarely distingush the Intake over the exhaust, it's still there as the valve overlap in a highly tuned car is obviously bigger but the exhaust just simply overpowers and hides it. A car at that tune most probably runs ITBs(wich are pretty loud) with some kind airbox that hides the sound a bit too. And with engine placement putting the exhaust very close(a few feet) to the intake makes it even harder to distinguish the 2.

I feel you on my 7.1 I turn the exhaust speakers down(rear) or the front speakers high (engine) sounds so much better. If we could control the engine and exhaust sounds ourselves that would be a huge plus for me.

I'm surprised you assumed that I race online. I don't because of my crappy connection. I'm only a noob who drives maxed out cars on racing softs so hey, what would I know right?

And thanks for sharing. 👍 I guess they can sound the same, both being V6s.

It wasn't me who posted it, although I did comment then.

You can hear the intake on a F1 car (especially the V10s), Ferrari 333SP, Mercedes SLS GT3 (whose intakes and exhausts are very close to each other), McLaren F1 GTR etc. A common reason you won't hear it on a racing car is if it's a restricted series, running near stock parts and the like, but obviously the exhaust has to be as loud as possible, right? Turbo cars, too, don't always have induction sound in the identifiable / normal sense, but there is still a distinctive sound that comes from the intake. The intake, even if inaudible from the outside, is probably still audible on the interior, too.

I didn't, it was left in to fit the (admittedly awful) parody. It's a bastardisation of a famous line from cinema.

The Golf is a VR6, which is more like a straight 6, but that doesn't matter.

Is not that you can't hear it but it's less distingushable when runing a straight exhaust with no mufflers/cat/resonators. Yes a higly tuned engine will have a louder intake than a stock one but when runing a full blown race exhaust you barely notice the intake.
Now taking this to the other side of things, you are right the intake is a big part of it all it actually is what gets people into trouble during track days and noise restricted events at Laguna Seca. People go to great lenghts to keep exhaust noise down, but at the end is the intake noise that ends up getting them black flagged.

so no major overhaul in the sound(no surprises I guess), but the sounds do seem like they're slightly improved. Tire squeals sound alot better to me, and the replays sound so much better! What do you guys think?

I tried several cars starting with Corvette Z06. I realized there was a very slight improvement made into the engine sound only but still other cars, like LP640 and Enzo sound the same. This isn't enough.

I was expecting a new sound option like adjusting wind noise, engine, exhaust, gear and so on.
