Take a look at this guys.
Both have cockpit view..
I think GT5 sounds as good as real life, maybe not all cars, but darn close enough. Other games just over doit.
Agreed. Those videos of the GTR in real life and GT5 are pretty close, and at a muted level that I enjoy. Granted, some cars in real life really do produce a right racket that some people enjoy, but not me. However, I've been fortunate enough to go on several corporate track days, and the fact is, nothing I've ever driven (including a GTR, F430 and Ford GT) ever sounded as violent as some games make out.

Apart from the OTT tyre squeal, PD got the audio just right.

Finally something good,at least the SLS goldwing sounds like it suppose to sound:

Goldwing you say eh?:D

Now listen to this! I'm looking forward to racing this vs Veyron! hehe ;)

I hate the original annoying gran turismo wheel sound, i hope you know what i mean.

Tyre squeal? I remember when I was playing GT2 when my Grandparents were over once, and my Granddad (who got me into sim-racing with IndyCar Racing) was kind enough to give his comments on the game...

He criticised how the game focused on the (player's) car, to the detriment of the background (graphically, and sonically) and how the tyre screech was a single, badly looped sample...

I think it's much better now - he'd probably agree if he gave a 🤬 about games these days! :P
Although, the onset of screeching is still too soon; we need more "scrubbing" sound first (GT5:P has this already, mixed under the squealing) This might remove some of the perceived over-the-top-ness about it.

collision sounds are funny :)

Yeah, just like in Prologue there is only a single trigger sound, regardless of the contact type. Most of the collsions should have a more elongated scrapping sound....

Light contact should not sound like a war drum!

Yes, but only sounds that PD is lacking with is the race cars, sure you need a surround system and turn volume up to hear the race car engine, but its missing most of the growling. I think we agree on something at least, 👍 I never knew that was possible haha

oh and about that Cobra SVT video, check out PSP gt version, it sounds more realistic.

Even many cars have overhouled sounds in GTPSP, the 2000 CLK55 AMG sounds way diffrent and more mean over GT4s vaccum machine. In fact that car in the PSP sounds so good, I can compare the sound with my Brothers 55AMG.

That cobra video on GT4 was heavily tuned which changes the sound, not sure you can expect it to sound like real life when there is no way to compare the exact tuning/parts, another note on that video, i dont remmeber the cobra gripping corners and braking like an F1 car, but the car in that vid isnt far off, some kind of cheats being used?

Seems strange but i prefer some of the car sounds we had in GT2, especially some cars in the low rev range had a really nice rumble to them.

I said exactly that in the comments section plus I think the sound for the gear change has improved.

I was at the Montreal race this year and for qualifying I went to the short straight between the Senna curves and the first chicane, only like 2-3 meters away from the track at the fence, and it's just ridiculous. I couldn't stand there for very long cause my ears felt like they were going to explode (absolutely need ear plugs to stay that close). Even if you just take a few steps back it's much easier to take, but it's really loud. When you're in the grandstands it's still loud but it's nothing at all like being right close up.

I was at goodwood FOS this year and hearing Lewis's Mcalren wheel spinning was defening, I can honestly say it moved my insides.

I hate to be an arse here, but the Mustang SVT Cobra R sounds exactly the same as that in GT4. As does the Cobra in front of it, and the CLK behind (which actually sounds more like a Subaru boxer from the same game.) In the external replay views, the 'Stang is barely audible - perhaps you got confused with the Cobra? That does sound fairly badass (has done since GT2; it was my second favourite V8 - first being the Cougar XR7).

Goodwood's Festival of Speed is great for allowing you to get very close to all manner of cars (and motorcycles), and really "feeling" what they sound like. F1 cars are loud, but, I've discovered, not much more so than their 60s forebears :D
Tyres are also loud buggers. Slicks tend to be quieter than treaded tyres, too. This is actually attempted in GT4.

Aaawww Griffo you let me down.
I love Reading your posts with "warble, throaty, snarling, gnarly(I think you used that one), snappy and many more I have forgotten.

Next time please insert a reference to the above or more descriptive words.

Many thanks. Oh and please take it with the humour I mean.

Peace.

Nope, the nose cam, you can only hear the supercharger, if the guy show behind the car view cam the SVT has a lot more ROARR over GT4, I know because I have the GT PSP and GT4, and it sounds much better on PSP, also its a SL not CLK. I cant find any CLK55 videos from PSP GT version, but that car sounds even more badass then in GT4.

More examples and maybe clues that GT5 will have improved sounds.

As all of you can hear, huge huge improvement. I bet GT5 will be even better over PSP version.

Well, all I can do is take your word for it on the Mustang - you're right, the nose view is all supercharger (and that's the view I used in GT4, too) It's a shame it's not very loud in the replay view in that video, then.
The other comparisons are impressive though - not so much the Mercedes 190E, which just seems to have been re-balanced slightly (at least as far as I can tell from that vid).

I've never been any good at discerning different Mercedes. Probably because I don't much like them, so I can't be arsed to tell the difference.
Except the CLS, of course. That's awesome.

Hopefully the sounds are being re-done for the PS3, and not just the PSP ;)
GT5:P's sound engine is an impressive thing, but it can't cover up the bad sounds, as we well know. :(

Nice videos Nox! I'm loving the improvement for the Zonda racecar which finally has that Zonda scream added in a little bit. But as you and Griffith mentioned, hopefully this is a nice precursor to what we'll see in GT5.

I prefer the over the top engine sound like in nfs shift. could care less about wind noise or tire squeal...just let me hear engine/turbo/supercharger...and lots of it!

Some cars do sound better, but the Veyron is horrible in GT PSP :)

I think it's mostly due to PD fixing the warbley sample loop glitch in GT4...

Also keep in mind that the PSP is a freaking hand held system and the sounds are fairly improved. If you have a proper speaker system not just a TV or monitor playing the sounds then I bet GT5 will be very good.

If you do not have a proper sound system then you have no reason to complain what so ever....my .02 cents

I think your 2 cents get thrown out the window when it comes to most cars we've heard. The problem isn't the quality, which your speaker comparison points out, it's that the sounds themselves are not authentic in many, most?, cases, as far as we know right now. A 1969 camaro should not sound like a sump pump or a vacuum.

When you drive them slowly with little throttle (at least in GT4) they don't sound too bad, though. It's on WOT that some kind of unnatural noise gets mixed in. I believe that in past games PD always wanted to simulate in some way induction noise taken with a microphone under the bonnet rather than in the cockpit.

I think, like others have stated, that they mix in too much 'engine noise' which consists of spinning belts and the general clatter of the engine internals. That's why there is so much whining noise. These sounds are almost inaudible from outside the car or in the interior.

@dave_sz - I don't know if your talking about GT PSP or GT4. All I know is that GT4 sounds sucked, and GT PSP sounds are better, and its on a handheld device.

There should be no reason why GT5 sounds should not be better with more hardware to work with and space not to mention being in development for 5 years. GT5 prologue is split 50/50 in my opinion some cars sound great and other s are lacking.

Also no matter what the sounds will not be as good if you do not have the proper setup. Depending on what tv your using the speakers do not have enough bass to produce a good engine sound.

Having a good audio setup is just as important as having an up to date tv (LCD/Plasma) if you want to enjoy the full experience of a racing game the caliber of Gran Turismo

I sure hope I am right because this is the only gripe i have with the series because I love a good engine sound. Would make the game 10x better....if thats possible

I am just amazed at the Formula GT's sound on GTPSP. It sounds alot closer to an F1 car then it did in GT4(which was more like a high pitched version of the GT-ONE sound). I get the feeling in GT5 it'll be just spectacular(assuming they don't overpower it with wind noise as they did with the Ferrari F2007 in GT5P).

I hope so GT5 sounds diffrent than GT5P, it would be too funny to see that GT PSP had better sounds then GT5.

I can agree from what i've seen the GTPSP sounds are way ahead of the GT4 sounds despite being on a little portable with like 1\4 inch speakers.

Bodes well for GT5 although the Standard Cars video was less than stellar in the sound department, Muscle cars and olf Alfas whizzing by like they were Priuses . :scared: :)

 Oops...

This is quite noisy from the front, though (as was our Chevy...)

Which could be that the Standard Cars vid could be a very early demo/presentation of GT5 Standard models.. that or PD are underplaying the quality of the cars (including sounds). So when it comes out rather then overexpecting we will be plesently surprised.

Or maybe thats just me wishing. :D
