O M G

watch the E3 trailer again!!! and the red bull X1 prototype makes sense.....

Seb Vettle say "it can reach 400km/h on the sraights"

He is talking about the X1!!!!

This is bad news for us who think that PD were at red bull headquaters for the F1 cars, but cool nonetheless!!!

I bet they make the car body with dimples, like a golf ball. Dimples = Top Speed. Illegal in F1, makes sense to have it with this car.

Would GT5 had a good damage system ? a good AI ? a lot of online feautures ? a dynamic day/night and weather system ? NO

Yes but your missing the point T10 generally dont set the trend they follow it.
Look how they are still pushing the series now with Kinect. Will Kinect bring more realisim and sim control? No it's even more development going further away from being sim based or emulating actual "Racing". GT on the other hand is trying to emulate various forms of racing and now make it more realistic with weather/damage/night racing etc.

T10s most creative things arent even racing based but were still good creations. The paint editor and the online market place. Yes they have added drag races and a few other things but nothing that remarkable.

Rewind - copied from Codemasters
Photomode - copied from GT4 as various others have also
One button play - dont even want to go their
H-Shift & clutch support - copied from GT5P (unofficial G25 feature)
Kinect - copying Wii / Mario

@DoctorFouad

That's your point of view, not the truth.

FM3 came out in October 2009, so you think, that then they took a look at Forza features and decided in 1 year, inject all this content to differentiate itself? Nah, getting influence from a competitor, having it already planned or trying to meet fan expectations are different things.

You talk like PD were trying to put out GT4 HD instead of GT5.

@FlourescentBlak

He already aknowledged T10\Forza accomplishments and congratulated them by saying something along the lines "it's nice to see them trying to do what we do". Source: MotorTrend June 2009 interview: >>LINK

It looks like Polyphony has updated Suzuka to its current look

Prologue Suzuka

That's from the Red Bull TGS trailer. Credit to Wax Free Vanilla from NeoGAF for pointing it out.

I wonder if that means the wall position at Suzuka towards the end of the esses has been changed as well for GT5. In Prologue said wall is half a metre of the track, but when I watched a Super GT race highlights vid from 2010 the same wall was a good 5m away. Same with the run-off area at turn 1, in Prologue it's all sand, but in this Super GT race I watched there was some 5m of bitumen before the sand, and it may have been the same for other run-off areas on the track as well but I didn't really take that much notice.

That video with the lake moster at Trial Mountain is awesome. I have watched it about ten times since it appeared and always puts a smile on my face when it shows the Trial Mountain grid and seconds later that dramtic orchestra comes in. Class and nice easter egg by PD! :)

There are many Sony exclusive games with Long development times, God of War III, The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain, Agent, Metal Gear Solid 4. So using the excuse that GT5 had more time to make a superior game than Forza doesn't mean anything( Too human, huge dev time and......yea). You can also look at it this way, Turn 10 had twice the opportunities than PD did to make an outstanding game, yet they didn't.

Anyhow back to TGS, I wonder why they didn't put damage in this build.

Because this build focuses on Night racing and weather effects. To ensure smoothness.

You really think they are still optimizing frame-rate a month before it goes gold? Speaking of Damage i think Kazanouri was right when he said most players will want it off, i can count on my hand how many clean laps i've seen.

1/ Yes of course it is my point of view, what else would it be ? I dont work at polyphony, its a guess, thats why I said : I believe that...

2/ You didnt understand my point : forza 3 influenced GT5 development, it is my opinion, especially the online functionality, the AI and the damage. After forza 3 gamers expectations rised considerably for what they expect from a racing video game.

if forza didnt have damage and rich online functionality, ps3 gamers would have been less disappointed by the lack of those features in GT5...but the fact forza 3 already has thsose feautures and already is out in the market, polyphony digital couldnt ignore anymore the demands of fans...the risk would be : less commercial success for GT5....polyphony cannot afford that...

people sometimes ignore a basic fact : polyphony digital are developers, they do what they do to gain money, yes thats true !

another basic fact people sometimes ignore : the success of gran turismo franchise is not indifnitely guaranteed whatever polyphony do to the franchise. yes thats true ! if polyphony fails the expectations of its fans, they will simply go away and not give their money, with NO MERCY at all...(look for example what happened to the football game PES, or the tomb raider franchise, or crash bandicoot...etc)

Yes. We've seen recent builds with Damage, some without, some with alot of VFX like skids and smoke, some with less, this build has rain and night lighting, so it would make sense that they exclude some other features as a precaution to avoid bugs, some of the Ring demos had the first turn totally disappear. Cant afford that kind of slip at home at TGS.

We must not forget that competition is generally a good thing, I believe GT5 would have never been what it is today if ihe GT franchise wasent threatened by Forza franchise, I a sure GT5 would have never been GT5 without Forza 3.

Forza 3 threatened the throne of polyphony digital.

You're sadly mistaken. Polyphony Digital don't recognise any alleged "competition" from Turn 10 whatsoever. Gran Turismo 4 achieved higher sales than those of all three Forza games combined, and Kaz even acknowledged the fact that, and I quote, Forza is "different from what a simulator is." Gran Turismo 5's lengthy development time couldn't be any less related to Forza's presence.

As a big Forza fan, I'm actually thankful PD are still autonomous enough to stand up to Sony and make a game in their own time. I'm really actually fed up that within 9-months of FM3's launch, T10 acknowledged they were working on their next big thing. A name like that could mean anything in theory, but that's what they called FM3 during FM2's first year.

Having Kinect foist upon them shows how MS don't care about beating GT at its own game and just want a racing game to peddle to the masses and that's great to an extent, but not to the point when some video-based motion crap is developed into a game all about control. T10 are probably very good developers, because FM3 is not bad in any sense, but it sure isn't finished to a standard it deserves.

And you believe Kaz when he says he doesn't look at the competition or that he's entirely objective when making any claims about Forza?
Ofcourse he doesn't say anything truly positive other than some diplomatic answer and ofcourse he won't admit to even having a go at it ( which I bet he did otherwise he couldn't make that claim in the first place ), other than saying he saw some guys playing it at the PD office.

He's trying to avoid the topic completely when asked about it and that's also completely understandable from a marketing perspective.
And I do believe he's trying to make a GT-game in the way he wants to regardless or despite what the competition is doing, that doesn't mean he's not remotely aware ( despite him ofcourse denying or downplaying it ) of the developments and good aspects of any rival game, he's not stupid.

Thing is, any new aspects introduced by rival games will influence the development of GT ( just like GT did influence most console racing games since 1997 ) although they will be implemented in a GT like way or choose to take a different alternative route.
To be honest I haven't played any Forza title ( just never happened ) but I'm happy it exists for making GT5 a better game, competition breeds excellence, even when denying that any competition exists.

Didn't know Suzuka had a revamp. Looks good. So that's TGS over and done with then.. home stretch now. No more silly game shows or demos with broken rigs and idiots that can't drive. Every bit of info we get now will probably be released by Sony/PD or something, yeah? No one's going to be able to get on these forums come November Release because it will be that Indian bloke; Ram Jam Full!
