I asked this question to SrRd_Racing and I would like to share with you guys: Since TGS is over, how does you rate the event as a whole?

We saw the fantastic weather effects, some car confirmations, returning tracks and a few surprises like the old VWs, but still, we didn't see rollovers, standard damage and customization, I would give it a 9/10, as I'm pretty satisfied with the bunch of info we had.

Also no standard cars yet.

9/10

I think some features were intentionally left out of the show because the release of the game will present bombastic news to impress people who aren't sure on buying the game. It will be like a final showdown to make every PS3 owner buy the game. I believe this "final showdown" includes, among the full track list, Spa-Francorchamps, and an even better damage system (although I'm already satisfied with what we've been seeing).

If they had shown everything they have on TGS, everybody would be impressed now, but the game isn't out yet. If they impress people on the release, everybody will go out and buy the game. This is the so called "momentary hysteria effect".

Forza looks 'bland', if you don't see this there is something wrong with your eyes really. Not saying Forza has bad colors, but compare Forza to your real life car, there seems to be a lack of 'shine' to the cars. The hue or something is just off. The cars, the tracks, the whole game just seems 'blah' to a more vibrant GT, hell even NFS Shift's cars look better. That's my opinion of course, but playin Forza at a friends house, then coming home playing NFS Shift there is a noticeable difference. Not speaking of gameplay, just of the imagery. .

Not that it's too important but NFS Shift running on a powerful PC has fantastic looking interiors--better than GT5P. Not sure about how GT5 interiors stack up as I haven't seen it in person yet but they do seem to be improved from GT5P. Overall, GT5 will easily set the benchmark for graphics with sim leaning racers. NFS Shift 2 (due next year) on PC might get close if they make a few improvements over the first release. Shift on console looked ok but not great.

indeed, Shift + the GTmod and other fantastic mods look GORGEOUS on my PC!

Presenting:
- full track replays
- new cars (Formula one, Audi R10,...)
- new physics mode to choose from: from Gran Turismo mod to GTR2 mod
- Imported DLC from XB360 : yes, Ferrari on PC!
- new lightings and colors closer to Gran Turismo 5!
... and MORE!

They put alot of emphasis on the cars though, seeing that Aston would have fooled me if it wasnt for the less than stellar track visuals.

Yeah, both cars look incredible, the only give-away that it's a game is the background. Car models and lighting are easily on par with Prologue.

Hmm... I must not be seeing it. I am not impressed by those 2 NFS pictures. The models look decent, but they look a bit bland in some areas. The textures don't look very good to me. That and the track and background is just awful.

I rate it 8/10. Would've liked to see another interview or two.

1 month seems so far away.

I was watching the weather effects on youtube, the other day. And I noticed in the raining Eiger nordward part,I can't see any rain splatters on the maserati...

Any ideas?

There aren't neinther reflections from the wet road nor any spills. But we have drop explosions bouncing off the road.

And you believe Kaz when he says he doesn't look at the competition or that he's entirely objective when making any claims about Forza?
Ofcourse he doesn't say anything truly positive other than some diplomatic answer and ofcourse he won't admit to even having a go at it ( which I bet he did otherwise he couldn't make that claim in the first place ), other than saying he saw some guys playing it at the PD office.

He's trying to avoid the topic completely when asked about it and that's also completely understandable from a marketing perspective.
And I do believe he's trying to make a GT-game in the way he wants to regardless or despite what the competition is doing, that doesn't mean he's not remotely aware ( despite him ofcourse denying or downplaying it ) of the developments and good aspects of any rival game, he's not stupid.

Thing is, any new aspects introduced by rival games will influence the development of GT ( just like GT did influence most console racing games since 1997 ) although they will be implemented in a GT like way or choose to take a different alternative route.
To be honest I haven't played any Forza title ( just never happened ) but I'm happy it exists for making GT5 a better game, competition breeds excellence, even when denying that any competition exists.

I totally agree, it is really naive from some people who believe and take wor by word anything developers say about their games and their feelings about the competition....if anyone expects someone like kazunori yamauchi to say frankly : "yes forza 3 influenced our decisions with GT5, yes we learned from the competition, yes forza 3 was a challenge for us...etc" than this is naive, because thats not real life...

Now E3, GC, TGS are finished and we know much more about GT5, are you satisified with what GT5 has to offer?

For the last 12 months I have been wary that my expectation for GT5 might of been to high. I always hoped GT5 would have weather, day/night, go karts, track creator. However I have to say GT5 has exceeded my expectations because I didn't expect all those features to be in GT5. I always thought one of them would be missing, for example the weather or track creator.

What I find curious is all those features I listed were the most requested on the forza forums before FM3 was released. Makes you wonder if PD follow what happens outside of GT.

Edit. I forgot that the Top Gear TT was always requested on the forza forums and so was 12/16 online and these happen to be in GT5!

We found out some more info at TGS, but nothing like a boatload of info that people were expecting. I think we found out more about GT5 through screen shots and videos than we did from Kaz and PD themselves. Which is fine. I think we haven't gotten as much coverage from TGS as we did from other shows because Japan is pretty far away. Maybe there is some Japanese text sites that have more info than what weve found so far.

Where these features not also requested here at GTplanet:

I would be pretty sure PD are watching GTplanet more than any other forum, what is more curious is the fact that the latest trailers are basically exactly what we have been asking for.

Have a look at the trailer that was pulled, we saw plenty of standard cars, skidmarks, pit crews, old favourite tracks, weather, night, exhaust flames, etc etc.
I genuinely believe they are making trailers to please the fanbase here more than the general public. It is our obsession over GT5 that will be the word of mouth that beats any other kind of marketing hands-down.

I have friends and work colleagues asking me about this game and have never actually played any previous GT game, purely because i never shut up about it when anyone mentions the PS3, or gaming, or fast cars...... if they have a PS3 they will buy it blind thanks to word of mouth.

edit : On further inspection of the GTplanet ideas list, its pretty scary to see just how many of our requests have been met.

Hey, I have an off topic question. Not that this thread is really on topic now.

Does anyone know of a car that is mid engine all wheel drive other than the Audi R8?

Right, I totally forgot about those. Any others?

The Veyron.

It was pulled from GTplanet, i'm presuming C&D.

Other copies exist on youtube:

The thread talking about is https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=130617&page=4

Funny enough, i thought it would have sparked more interest, it's a great trailer yet doesn't seem to have got that much.
