GT5 Track Editor Thread

The only reason I don't is because I can't justify two systems these days, especially for one that would be for very few games. I'm not much into the Call of Duty / Medal Of Honor / Gears of War / Halo kinds of games, the only shooter-style game that interests me is Metal Gear. Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, Katamari, GT, LBP, Arkham Asylum, the upcoming Marvel Vs Capcom 3... a fair amount are Sony exclusives, and if they are on the 360, they're multi-platform anyways.

I guess I was hoping that the competition's advances in the years since GT4 would bring improvements in some aspects I deem important. On the other hand; I still am excited about a fair amount of GT5, despite appearances. Photomode always sucks up a lot of time for me, but even without it; I'm finally going to be able to race friends I've made from the original granturismo.com message boards years ago, in real-time. Our "OLR" from a decade ago, of sending in times and comparing ghost replays, just can't compare to the thought of racing some of these guys halfway around the globe 👍

Thirdeded about the track creator. I'm going to use it a fair amount, simply because I like the idea of driving random roads, but all the hype before the announcement for what has so far amounted to little more than a random track generator? Hmmm. I only get a token nod in my portion of the "creation".

I'm one of the people that would've been more excited about a livery editor than a track creator, especially given what we've seen of the latter so far. Oh well.

The hype is your own doing. When we first heard of the editor, it was labeled "Track Creation Tool". When the French PSM talked about it recently, it could have been misinterpreted for a full fledged editor by non-French speaking people. The wording was specific about the drivable part of the tracks, but nothing on scenery or architecture. If one is to take into account that this was written by printed press people who see hundreds of games a year, and the subject being PD's product, caution is recommended.

Reviewing the material put to our disposition, there is nothing there that would let someone expect anything extraordinary. Except the fact that we can create, cruise and share tracks... In a Gran Turismo game (try to think seriously about that, and your heart might start playing a salsa).

I'm sorry you let yourself overwhelm by the effervescence we experience on this site. But it's your fault. Anyways, you and I, as well as a hefty portion of GT owners, will use it as it is, and probably love it.

I think we should all keep in mind that "thoughts pinball" is fun but doesn't make what comes out of it anything that resembles a fact.

I feel the same way dave. I was really hoping for a creator that we could have total control over. Having the game do it for you will be nice and quick, but it won't be possible to make the real tracks that we were all hoping for.

That would be boring as crap though and hard to manage without a mouse.

This way anyone can do it.

It's PD, come GT4 people were bitching about the Photomode, oh screw photos give me 50 more cars! But it turned out amazing.

#Faith.

If they dont put BMS in im definitly making it 1st.

Send me a copy! Are you making the old 36 degree or the newly repaved 33? I love that lil thing, you get sideways and it aint drifting ya know.

If you don't make it out to be really great early, then you are always negative.

However if you expected it to be great, you were an idiot.

I love it!

There's only one right way; endless praise!

Actually, my mistake, there's another:

That would be boring as crap though and hard to manage without a mouse.

Justifying how a glorified random track generator* is somehow better than one where we have more than a token level of control?

* - Despite it being this, don't take this as me saying I'm not going to enjoy it. I surely will. But it's hardly ground-breaking in any way.

I always hope my future games will be great. But believing they will be great is a mistake I stopped doing since Art of Fighting 3.

Back on topic, I expected the creator to be included once announced officially. I will believe in it's presence only when I will try it, and judge its value (for me) there and then, not before. The same goes for standards cars details, upgrades, tuning and all other facets of this game. Features are on my checklist, but it doesn't matter if everything ends being checked or not. I decided I would buy this the second I knew it was in development. Even if I end up wasting money on it, because I want to have a glimpse of what shines inside the head of KY.

It would be realy cool there are lots of amazing roads near me but I think there could be big legal issues with anything like that, public roads would be ok like the cole de turini (swizerland/Italy) or the snake pass (England) but tracks would be a mine field for instance a track say silverstone would want to be paid publishing rights to be in gt5 and using them without permision could be a copyright issue I just hope there will be tracks/point to point roads available as download at some point

They could have some type of software that doesnt allow it to be turned on when inside the track perimeter or something of the sort. It will most likely never be seen in a game for the legal reasons tho which is a horrible thing really.

Who hasnt wanted to race on the road they drive everyday?

Baby steps guys, this tool was meant to be released in GT6 until a leak forced Kaz's hand. Give PD some time to tune and develop the creator and it probably wont be too long until we can create almost any track we want.

The fact we have the tool at all let alone whatever state it is in is great news, when the rumour first popped up a thought it was a load of nonsense and something we would never see in a GT game, PD can only make it better from here.

Have you tried the track-editor of ModNationRacers? I've only played the limited version in the free Demo on PSN and it's great and very easy to do with a controller, you might wish to try it yourself.
Imagine something similar without the cartoon-elements and you're probably almost there.:)

Thats what Kaz pointed out about Karts, not track creator.

Exactly. As to my knowledge, Course Maker option was experimented from early times of PS2 hardware for possible GT4 inclusion. However, we had to wait for GT5 in order to actually get it.

One have to wonder what are the experimental features that PD is working on at this point for future PS4 GT title..

Not even, its just has more mass appeal. It's not just catering to a very very narrow margin of what's already a marginal genre (sim racing).

The Course Maker itself is not BETTER than say Bobs Track Builder, but then again, in 30 seconds, try to make ANYTHING on BTB. Impossible.

Put it this way, the Course Maker is likea toe in the water, if the reception is warm they are more likely to take a dip, but they aint cannonballing right away. So if people respond to it, it will become a permanent feature and expand.

Not yet, im actually PS3less at the moment, but ill def give it a try, it seems to be like the Little Big Planet meets Mario Kart wihch either way you slice it, are loads of fun themselves.

Im makeing the 36 it the best. The 33 is fun becuse its new but still.

What are the chances of being able to use a mouse to navigate and manipulate the tracks in the track editor?
Does the PS3 support a USB mouse? And if so, does GT5 support its use?

The track editor uses sliders, just like the car setup screens. All you need is a controller.

I have raced on most of my local ones :nervous:
Here is a track local to me hope i have done it right !!

I love racing Cadwell Park in rFactor, it has such brilliant corners and elevation changes. I hope to visit it someday in the flesh.

Thanks for the reminder (fixed the embedded video link for you, hope you don't mind).

A guy I used to work with (before he went "pro", he was racing Radicals at the time) once said to me that Cadwell Park was his favourite track (Mondello Park was a close second) on the European schedule. Now, that might be a bit contentious given the calibre of circuits across Europe, but Cadwell definitely deserves to be ranked as one of the best to drive on. It's definitely small-fry, facilities-wise, so there's mostly only club racing there - plus, it's kind of in the middle of the Lincolnshire wolds, not a lot going on :P

Hopefully, the course creator will allow us to create similar, short, technical circuits with lots of elevation changes and the odd funky camber, but it could never be as good as a fully crafted / edited version, and features like "the mountain" could only really be achieved by accident, or with lots of trial, error and luck.

Still, if the random circuits are compelling enough in themselves, this shouldn't be a problem.

Even tough I think the course maker will be a great tool. I suppose we'll have a better version in GT6.
As far as I understood we'll have the chance to model the 4 sessions. Every session can be modeled using slider controls which means that the customization has its limitations. We cannot select a point on the course maker map and (i.e.) add an hairpin or change specifically a corner.

I hope the course maker will add some random house, tends, crowd around the track. I think it's probable.

EDIT from an IGN page:
Yamauchi created one for the purpose of the demo, a 10km run through the Belgian High Fens. It was sparse but not without sparkle, with rolling hills and fields and the occasional environmental feature like a small village giving it the feeling of a long and winding country road.

The maximum length is 10 kilometers, we freshener according to preset themes, we could see Tuscany, but there will be about 8 in the final version.
So this means more variations of surface in track editor.

There don't seem to be enough tracks with good elevation changes, regardless, Cadwell really sticks out as a beauty with all those lovely curves.

All we can do is sit back and hope that a random track appears in the shape of Cadwell.

As to the real Cadwell Park, hopefully they won't get any F1 aspirations. Keep out Tilke and his ilk!

I'm realy glad you all seem to like cadwell :) it realy is in the middle of nowhere ! to the point F1 would not take it seriously 👍 I do hope someone re-creates it or at some point it becomes dlc

It just kinda hit me now but is anyone else a bit surprised that a japanese touge is not one of the 4 scenery choices? I was thinking that we know the 3 locations but the 4th wasn't revealed, add watching best motoring at the same time and it made me think. I looked at the picture of the 4 choices and sadly, wooded mountain roads were not a choice.

I really don't believe they have revealed ALL of the sceneries already. Not Kaz & PD style. 👍

Wasn't one of the pictures a long staightaway with tall trees on each side? That could be the wooded area you are talking about.

I agree and I think it has something connected to WRC courses.
Also the scrollbar in the course maker pic show us a chance for 8 different environment. Give us the snow... Santa Kaz!
