My guess is the surface is selected under each sector's tab, with sensible choices according to the terrain - e.g. no snow on Toscana (unless the whole terrain has a snow variation! Weather setting? Then again, does it snow in the Tuscan lowlands? I know it does in the assorted Alpes from time to time... Ahem.)

And we've yet to see the Sector Tabs, but surface choice for each would be nice.

Give me that and and a Road Width slider\preset and I'm good.

Ey dudes.

Edit: its already old news I see...

Do you people have seen a picture about the course maker?
No? Here is one

Yes we've seen those images, in GTP, nothing is new :D

You maybe right.
Also because in the picture with the section tabs there is no information about the surface (just Toscana in the top-left corner). With a previous terrain choice it should be something like Toscana / Dirt
Do you agree?

I was looking at this pic and I noticed that you could change the number of sections, surely if we put greater number of sections on a smaller track we would have more control over how it looks, all be it with trial and error.

You can have a maximum of 4 sections.

Ok, I'll got to my original thought on this. When I first saw this picture

I'm thinking out of the box here but either:

Most likely - the scroll bar indicates there is another page of an undisclosed amount of additional themes i.e. at least one or a maximum of 4 seeing as the scroll bar is exactly 50% in size.

Less likey - the scroll bar indicates that the cursor is in the top 50% of the selection screen so when you move to one of the bottom themes the scroll bar will move to the bottom half as well.

Either way I'm just really happy I get the chance to create a looped circuit that's around 10km's long. Awesome for endurance events.

I think that yes it is. Kaz show off the Course maker with a Subaru as a test drive car.

Also, Toscana has moved down with the scroll bar. Compare that with the 'original' image: http://www.gran-turismo.com/jp/news/d9666p3.html

I would expect Toscana to have moved up and out of sight.

Edit> One says "Select a theme" at the top the other at the bottom, and the new one does not show the text "Course Maker".

just found a different pic at taxigamer.com that shows toscana dirt and tarmac as two different themes:

fake?

That's very interesting. So we can assume that the menu for the theme selection isn't final, since it seems to have changed.

The bottom left picture seems new, unless we are to assume it's the same as the bottom right from the previous picture (German Springtime).

My initial thought was that it looked a lot like the Ardenne in Belgium (south-west-ish of Francorchamps) which is apparently geologically related to the Eifel region in Germany, and looks very similar. The High Fens are just north-east of Francorchamps, and are bordered by the Eifel to the north and east - in fact, it's technically part of the Eifel. For those that don't know, the Nürburgring was built to hold the "[WIKIPEDIA]Eifelrennen[/WIKIPEDIA]".
Originally, it used the Gesamtstrecke, which included the Nordschleife following the (now lost) Südschleife.

Throw in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler as a photo-travel location and PD are certainly giving a lot of love for the region, assuming the German Springtime is in fact set in the Eifel.

The words "Course Maker" are blurred at the top-left, so I think that what's happening here:

1. You create the track, then you pick the theme.
2. You pick the theme, then you create the track, but, you can choose another theme again if you picked the wrong one, or you don't like it.

So I think that PD just thought it would be irrelevant to put "Course Maker" twice ;).

Makes no sense to me why the order of the thumbs changed. But now the one in the top right looks much more like toscana dirt than the previous one I thought was toscana dirt. I'm just not sure if it's real.

The big one appears to be from Gamescom, along with the Subaru test image, as used by Kaz in the closed door presentation. ie the real ones. The ones on the GT site are mockups

You can set road width in the course maker, but with the invisible walls, it might not be a good idea :D

Thats sounds like a reasonable answer but now we appear to have different pics for the themes and the scroll bar has changed.

I have done a check over the picture and it doesn't appear to be fake or whoever faked it did it a pixel at a time which i doubt but I also noticed along the right hand side of the new picture there are 4 blured out buttons and there isn't on the older picture. So I think it is a new picture but someone whether it be PD or someone else has blurred the side buttons.

Is faded behind this image...

And the taxi gamer image as well. Which leads me to believe thats what you will see while selecting the theme.

Also, I agree with CoolColJ that the official image is doctored for marketing purposes.

Also, it seems there are 8 themes. If you consider tarmac and dirt as different "themes".

I can't stand invisible walls. So what if I want to look for squirrels off the track and in the forest, that's my business. :)

Hahaha! although in my opinion the invisible walls don't really bother me (i don't plan on coming off the track ;) ) I do hope they are extended some more on the TGTT.

Now that there is damage, it would be funny totaling out your car after hitting the invisible wall.

I liked the way Richard Burns Rally handled invisible walls; you could go off-track, but (being a rally stage) there was usually something to stop you, such as trees, logs, ditches, rocks, random potholes etc. that usually damage the car. This means you rarely get to the (artificial) hard-boundaries.

How much of this is possible on GT-style circuits, I don't know.
Of course, it's PD's perfectionism that prevents one from straying too far from the circuit on the Top Gear Test Track, for example, because the scenery has been geometrically and texturally optimised to be seen from the circuit. Sneaking around off-track will probably highlight some interesting "faults" in the scenery, and they don't want that. A similar thing is present in the photo-travel locations in GT4.

Probably I am not the first one saying the following...

The track editor would be great if it could load data from a GPS device. Maybe in GT6 or GT7 we'll have the chance to drive our car on 'our' roads, and then load the GPS data into the game and the track will be automatically created.
What do you think? Is it science fiction?

I know they made something similar with Fuji but that was with a specific device and it was for a different purpose.

I'm not sure if I'm the first to say this but I don't think the Toscana track you see in the Demo will be in the full game. Its just been created using the editor for use in the demo.

Here is some comments from the Spanish PSN website, this might be old news
http://psnow.es/index.php/avances/articulo/2526/

"Finally, I have left for the final track creator . We had the opportunity to see it in action and it is amazing, but one thing that nobody expected . We can not create the tracks for ourselves. ourselves we can not draw the circuit that we have in mind. Instead, we have a comprehensive wizard that will create the tracks for us. It's hard to do see those who have not been there , so this somehow becomes an exercise in faith. Yamauchi was an important part of this phase of the presentation focusing on how hard it is to make a circuit Gran Turismo. With much regret, the team decided to remove the custom editor due to its complexity , he could achieve excellent results in return for many hours of dedication. So the guys at Digital Poliphony have decided to opt for this wizard.

Using the wizard , we have a wide variety of options to create a track to our liking. We can choose to either circuit or a single route . We can choose to surface sectors and its configuration , will determine the amount and complexity of curves, the distance , lines, etc. . The game will give us a preliminary version that we try to give our approval and continue , all very well integrated and very flexible load times . The maximum length is 10 kilometers, we freshener according to preset themes , we could see Tuscany, but there will be about 8 in the final version .

The result of the wizard is that each circuit will be a surprise. And the truth is that what we have seen showed a great power as a tool to provide clues to infinite GT5. In addition, these tracks can be shared with friends via PlayStation Network."

Well thats confirmed that there will be 8 themes to choose from as the images above hinted at, i don't mind that the wizard creates it, tbh i couldn't see myself designing a complex track myself
