He said there would only be 4 with the 4th not being revealed.

No, he said "there are" four themes. This was at GamesCom.

"Only" and "would be" didn't come into it. As usual, we've nothing to base our expectations on, since PD have a habit of just saying "stuff".

Then again, if we assume that 4 themes is all we'll get, we might be surprised with the final game. :)

My previous post in this thread is a quot from a gaming site can't remmember which one now. They say there will be around 8 sceneries

I sure hope so, maybe have some snow?

Also as i remember, the picture showed the slider being only taking up half of the bar, you would assume this means there are more than just 4, i sure hope so, but if there are only 4 i won't be dissapointed :)

It just kinda hit me now but is anyone else a bit surprised that a japanese touge is not one of the 4 scenery choices? I was thinking that we know the 3 locations but the 4th wasn't revealed, add watching best motoring at the same time and it made me think. I looked at the picture of the 4 choices and sadly, wooded mountain roads were not a choice.

Something sorta like a narrower version of Deep Forest's back stretch? But without the gorge on the one side? Or Trial Mountain's middle section?

Seeing how it's PD, and they are closer to this culture than most of us, yeah, I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen that yet either. Maybe they were more interested in showing more "worldly" settings at GC, saving something like a randomly-generated touge course for the home field :)

I suppose this is the link you intended

http://psnow.es/index.php/avances/articulo/2526/

this is the course maker part (I added some personal translation , I am italian, so ... any spanish guy here can correct me)

[The above lines are just introducing the course maker. A real track editor was planned but they said it would be to complicate to include in this version]

[Using the Course Maker we'll be able to use several options to create a customized track. We can choose point to point or loop, the surface, we can decide how many corners and their complexity, distance, straightaways and so on. We'll be able to see a preview and try the track before accept it. Everything seemed well integrated and with quick loading times.
The maximum lenght is 10 km and we'll decide the environment. We saw Toscana but there will be 8 in the final version]

[With this tool every track will be a surprise. We had the feeling of a powerful tool, able to create an infinite number of tracks. Furthermore we'll be able to race these tracks with our friends on the PSN]

Guys : This is the same article saying that they saw 32 karts on the track. I just hope they to not have a x2 multiply factor in their minds when they said 8 environments... In any event I agree that that scrollbar is telling us something...

Ok, I'll got to my original thought on this. When I first saw this picture
photo04a-e1282210328819.jpg

it looked to me like the top 2 frames are toscana tarmac on right and toscana gravel/dirt on left. The one 2 on the bottom look like either the german springtime or the belgian high fens again with tarmac on right and gravel on left. I dismissed the idea cause 4 themes were said to be selectable. But thinking about it, it's still 4 themes just with 2 variations each.

You maybe right. On the other hand I suppose that the little tooltip showing 'Toscana' should be, in the case you proposed and if I got you right, something like:

Toscana (Tarmac)

At least this is what I would expect there.

As we know from the official site we'll be able to "Select the environment and terrain, and then adjust a variety of parameters..."

In the screenshots we have there is no option for the terrain (if my guess is right so that the first screenshot is just for the environment).
It may be that there is another page somewhere else in which you can select the terrain type... we'll see...

Regarding which sceanarie is which Dave just ask Famine he knows which one are those.👍 .Having seen the 458 and ft-86 videos again wow this feature is looking like one of the most anticipated.

Right, but if you recall to the videos of Toscana we have seen, the top 2 pictures are exactly what Toscana looked like in the videos. Maybe the tarmac version says toscana while the dirt one says toscana rally or dirt. This is just me hoping though. I need something about this track creator to interest me and togue battles might just do it.

I think you're right in saying both top pictures might be Toscana, one the dirt and one the tarmac option.
Seeing ( and this has been mentioned before ) the page could be scrolled down further than what is displayed it could mean 2 more themes ( or locations ) could be reveiled with both dirt and tarmac options.
This could perhaps mean, depending on how you formulate or if my theory makes sense, having 4 themes ( locations ) with 2 variations each or 8 themes ( 4 locations with 2 variations each ).

I didn't match the first environment with a Toscana video frame.
If you are right (I suppose so) then your theory is correct.

I can't wait to try this tool, especially with the rain button enabled.
Being a button I suppose there is no chance to have variable weather during the race, sun or rain are the options

I read about this track that Tilke is planning to make in Austin, Texas:

austintrackbyrilke.jpg

That looks insanely nice, especially the downward sweep after turn one, the long twisty straight that follows it and ... well it all looks promising in fact.

Wouldn't it be nice if we would be able to build a track like that in GT5? It would require us to be able to define elevation change.

It doesn`t look nice, it just looks like a typical "I got unlimited ressources, but I still make some soulless mickey mouse circuits!" tilke track. Just turn the layout around for about 270° clockwise and you have a new Bahrain.

Well, to me the top left location looks like it could possibly not be Toscana. It looks a bit different from the top right environment. It looks more... greenish and more dim if you understand what I mean. It could be the same thing but it does look a bit different from the Toscana we've seen. Then the bottom left I have no idea, and the bottom right looks to be either the Belgian High Fens or German Springtime (I'd say High Fens), but that's essentially just assuming since we know those are in the game.

And it is interesting that two are tarmac, two are dirt, but the type of road could possibly be selected after selecting the environment. It's hard to say for certain what these environments are. But since the bottom two don't seem to match each other (even though one is dirt and one is tarmac), the top two don't have to match either and could be two different environments.

I wonder how the actual track making process will be? I have played a PS1 game with track maker, and you start off with a circle. Then you use the analog stick as a mouse, dragging parts of track to another place, allowing you to make corners, straights, etc. . Then if you want evelation, click on a piece of the track and use the up/down button to raise/lower elevation.

If they could do it 15 years ago, then why cant they add it to GT5?

No, it looks like you have much less control than that.

This design will be used for the USGP!

One is at dusk other it at noon. If you look at any track selection videos, the top left looks just like tuscana rally. I agree it looks greener and it's what I thought as well but that could be due to a few things. Remember we had pictures and videos of I think Fuji where the grass had color differences of being green vs brownish in some cases. Some thought it could've been due to seasonal changes. All I know is that the track, the surroundings, the occasional tree here and there as well as the fences in the distance look just like toscana from the vids we saw.
I'll just hang on to this sliver of hope.

Guys just ask Famine he already stated their name in the latest disccusion thread before but I can't remmember which is which.

Ask him for what? We know what the 3 names are from here https://www.gtplanet.net/gamescom-gran-turismo-5-breakout-session-full-details/ We know toscana is the top right we know that german springtime as well as belgian high fens are there as well, we don't know whether the 4 pictures show all 4 or if 2 variations of the 4 or anything specific.

He mentioned which picture is german sprintime ,which is the belgian high fences and as long as my memory doesn't let me down he also stated a 4th sceanarie and there was only one Toscana sceanarie.Just my 2 cents anyway.

Top left was Belgian High Fens, top right was Toscana Sunset, bottom right was German Springtime, bottom left was never mentioned.

The picture shows all 4 themes described, but there must be another 4 below...

For now we have a confirmed 3 themes (Germany, Belgium, Toscana) with a mention of 4 in total, it seems one of them is merely Toscana with tarmac (does not count as a separate theme since it's most probably based on the dirt map but with a tarmac road).

Maybe the other is one "theme\location" with 2 road types. (based on evidence that toscana supports 2 road types, but there is no such option in the Course Generator menus we've seen)

Making it 4 themes\location with 2 having different road types, so the scroller could show the last theme with its 2 road types so 6 boxes in total.

My guess for the last one is something snow\ice covered.

Speculatively.

My guess is the surface is selected under each sector's tab, with sensible choices according to the terrain - e.g. no snow on Toscana (unless the whole terrain has a snow variation! Weather setting? Then again, does it snow in the Tuscan lowlands? I know it does in the assorted Alpes from time to time... Ahem.)

Also, told you so :P

The scrollbar could be explained by what many have said already (and I think this happened in previous GTs, too) - once you go to the second row there, the scrollbar hits the deck.

EDIT: It definitely does snow in Toscana!
snow-florence.jpg

More; More; MOAR!

In order:
Firenze
Ponte del Diavolo, Borgo a Mozzano, nr. Lucca
10 miles north of Siena
Looking out from Montepulciano.

EDIT: the Toscana course theme looks more like Val d'Orcia, and that's south of Siena.
It snows there too.
