Cause we're big dumb ugly Americans who were never taught anything other than the old English Imperial units of measure! Actually come to think of it blame the Brits for all these screwy measurements like foot, pound, mile, etc...

Oh self-irony! Like it!
I've nothing against these countries, but it's just annoying and unintelligible to calculate with these non SI based measurements. Who the hell had the idea to use them?

Is there anything like this to use on a pc?

There's a link to Oppositelock's original spreadsheet version in the very first line on the first page. I'm not sure from what elginge has said about new calculations that the spreadsheet is as up to date as the android app though.

Probably the same person who had the screwy idea to invent the whole metric system which wasn't based on any other previous system of measurement.

Think it was some Arab guy that told the Romans they didn't know how to count because they didn't have a symbol representing the value of nothing::dopey:

People who didn't have calculators or computers ;) we only have what we have because of the steps it took us to get here. 1000 years from now people (if we haven't exterminated our own race by then) will look back at many of the things we do today as (insert comment here), as your looking at non SI based measurements.

You mean my abacus is outdated technology?!?!

Or how constructors used a rope to measure angles and circumferences back in the days when they were building houses and such.

Come on guys, stop with the back and forth. PM each other, don't fill the thread with this argument.

lol exactly.

Just a brief update. I'm currently working on a heavily revised version with mostly all-new formulas. Being able to now view actual weight distribution has been a godsend, and the new sheet will use this instead of the sloppy guesstimates of previous versions. I'm also experimenting with using rake to alter handling balance in light of the recent "ride height glitch" threads. I hope to have the new version for elginge in a few weeks. I just wish I had a phone which would run his app so I could see the final product. :grumpy:

Get the android software development kit, it will emulate it on your PC.

The new version is a huge improvement - great job, it's looking really amazing!

Everything seems to be working just fine, glad to see you added the drivetrain abbreviations, really makes it quicker to find. I'd change the "FAWD" and "RAWD" to usual F4, M4 and R4 though.

The only thing I don't like is the "notes" menu. Not sure what's wrong, but it looks a bit weird. Maybe it's the text selection after opening it, or just lack of space for text itself? Also, please, delete the dot in "Notes and Comments." title bar :>

Guess that's it - app itself seems perfect to me, wonderful work once again!

Thanks Vatrox - I've devoted a lot of time to this and it's finally getting there.

I've kept the same shorthand that oppositelock uses in his spreadsheet. I'm pretty happy with that but if enough people want it the other way then I'm happy to go with the majority.

You're right: That bit is weird - The text box will expand as you put more text in it. I'll play about with the initial size of it and see what I can do to tart it up and make it fit with the look and feel of the rest of the app.

Many thanks for the feedback - Keep it coming in!

@elginge

Over the weekend i was playing with QuickTune and had an idea for it.

I know it's alot of work but should be doable (with the help of other users)

Creating a database with all the default car information so you can select the car from within the app.

That way the user only have to modify "His tuning settings".

The works:
- A web site were all default info could be entered.
- Upload function from within the app.
- Or you need to enter all data by yourself (which is a no-go imo ;) )

It was just a thought which could work perfectly if all entered/uploaded data is correct.
I doubt the users of this app would upload/enter faulty info so the DB should be pretty accurate.

I have thought about a small version of this, indeed the app contains a few setups. However, the information may be incorrectly entered and it would be a huge and tedious job to gather information on every car. Even if this was done as a collaboration, the effort would be huge.

Plus, if I did create a huge database of cars, I'd expect the app to become a paid for app - Something I'm sure that would not be very popular.

There is also the problem with car customisation. Oppositelock's calculations factor in weight: If you have weight reduced the car, then this would be in the database, but for someone else the weight would be wrong and the generated tune would not be optimum for their car. Likewise, for engine power.

It would be great to have a large database of cars, and I'll be happy to incorporate any car information you, or anyone, has.

Data entered should always be stock default, if you weight reduce your car you shouldn't enter this in DB but you can't really check.

Would be easy if there was already a site which has this info already so we only need to convert it :P

I know 1 site which has this data partly covered mygranturismo.net

New Release: Version 0.74.38 Beta

See the first post for the download link and instructions.

Fixes:
1. Toe angle for FF cars was wrong (reported by gt5pr0)
2. Comments with carriage returns in them were truncated.
3. Resolution problem on HTC Wildfire (reported by Pat_f40): I've allowed the screen to scroll. Please let me know if this a satisfactory 'fix'.
4. Changed the calcs for toe to use the second version of oppositelock's calculations.
5. Detect the saving of a duplicate car setup or tune. Ask to overwrite.

Improvements:
1. Added text to transmission screen to say the values aren't generated.
2. Improved layout of transmission screen.
3. Allow deletion of both car setups and tunes.
4. Improved layout of transmission screen.
5. Added text to both wheelbase and torque settings: These are optional and are not used in any calculation.
6. Added a 'Transmission' value to the car setup screen.
7. Added the car setup name to the top of the first screen. I may add this to the other screens, if that is what people want.
8. Changed the size of the Comments

Help make this app better:

I use this app to store my setups and it now works the way I like it, although there may still be bugs and things to improve. However, I need feedback on how you find the app. Is there anything (no matter how minor) that you find:
1. annoying
2. badly phrased,
3. badly displayed,
4. isn't intuitive
5. doesn't work as you expect it to

Keep the development suggestions coming and I'll see what I can do. Although developing this app is keeping me off the track!

@elginge

Nice update, thanks.

Question, where and how are the settings stored?

I couldn't find it on my SD card and because of that i was wondering if it's a good idea to store default settings and/or made tunes on SD?

Advantage of this is that you can quickly edit them on your comp with for example a text editor.

note: If they are already stored on SD you can forget my post, didn't checked my whole SD but only did a quick look.

Redownload, probably corrupt apk.

Hi elginge,

it's asking me to UnInstall before I update, am I going to lose all my tunes again?

Cheers

If you install, you will loss all your tunes.
I can't figure out why it would do this.
You were running 0.73.4?

all the settings are stored in the app's data folder which is hidden. I'll look into importing settings from a text file. But no promises! I'm going to hold off on updates for a while as I need to drive!

Yep currently running 0.7.34. I've downloaded the 0.74.38 build from today and when I go to it in the downloads folder, open the app manager then I get 2 options UnInstall or Launch. Clicking launch opens 0.73.4 version.

To update it,you need to 'run' the downloaded apk file. You should be able to tap it in the downloads folder of your browser. Or use a file manager to navigate to your downloads folder and then run the updated apk.

That's what I thought I was doing but I was using Astro file manager and it was launching it's own App Manager that only gave me the option to uninstall. I just installed OI File Manager that you suggested in your original post and it's allowed me to upgrade it this time. Problem solved and one to remember.

Thanks for the update.

Cheers
