Put it in 720p and it works perfectly fine.

Yup, seems to be screen effects that are slowing things down, whereas in GT5 it was polycount (mostly). That's OK, it's easier to trim pixel pumping than it is an LoD system - hence the tessellation. I mean, it should be a lot better for GT6.

One thing I don't like is the full-screen blur. Turn that off, depth of field is not necessary in replays anyway, leave it for photomode.

Apart from a few framerate drops hear and there, it was generally good. The new suspension model is great. The sense of speed also seems to be improved as well as the loading times.

As for the sound, while I want nothing more than for them to be improved, I don't really care.

i would venture to say the jaggies are even worse than GT5, especially in the garage screen where it shows your car, the model looks worse than the one in GT5's garage.

👍 That is exactly what i thought, i expected the cars would look at least as good as the ones in gt5. Lets hope they fix that in the full release version of the game.

The demo is like 1.3GB, there's definitely a lot of stuff that will be scaled back for the sake of the download, but I think they also have plenty of time to improve on everything everyone has mentioned.

It does bring nostalgia from GT3. Autumn Ring looks amazing, like the reflection of the sun as TypreRDC5 stated above. The suspension felt weird, but it felt realistic unlike GT5 where the wheels sort of stuck on the pavement and the wheels didn't move. The wheels were more free when turning. The menus made you feel like you are home. Loading times were sliced. Altogether, the game looked and felt enjoyable. I actually underestimated it as now I think is going to be a game worthy of buying and playing. I do wish it was less GT Academy oriented, but it was the whole point and I'm thankful that GT let us sample what they haave done so far.

I think we're running the new suspension model on the old tire model. Or maybe an incomplete new tire model. The car body moves around, and you can feel it especially on bumps, but the tires don't have me convinced. The g meter numbers also look familiar.

The improved menus and loading times were just as I'd hoped, actually; that's a good point. This was one of those things that was apparently possible just from looking at the way GT5 worked, sort of "under the skin". That bodes well for other things...

EDIT: Yeah, I think you're right about the tyres.

Has anyone gotten their car to rollover yet? I've tried but could not get the car to roll. I remember rollover was disabled in last year's GT Academy, so the same could be happening in this year's GT Academy as well.

You might be right, as I tried moving slowly on the uphill section on Grand Valley, under 3 mph the tires are still slipping like in GT5, that should have been fixed with new tire model, shouldn't it?

The conditions on Autumn Ring are kinda weird. The races takes place at 2pm even though it looks like evening and the temperature is 8°C which is really cold. I found it odd, no?

I'd like to think so, though I suppose there is nothing stopping them from using a new tire model that also possesses some of the same weaknesses.

The thing is, I can't find anything significantly different about the tires.

Not necessarily. They may just end up plugging in new data to the existing model. There's not much else going on out there except these slip ratio type models, and they all have a low speed switchover to combat divide by zero issues... I guess some are better than others, though.

I know that there are experimental things like brush models etc. in usage, but I don't know if they don't still need a low speed hack, because it's really a co-ordinates issue. That is, it should be possible to make a brush model that relies on slip ratio and angle. I haven't thought much about it, but I can't come up with better co-ordinates myself...

That's why I think you're right and the tire model in this demo is still the one from GT5, cause I don't really see and feel the upgrade. Suspension however is definitely new, weight transfer is awesome.

But why should the demo use the new suspension model but not the new tyre model?

Finally got on the demo. For me it got a Tourist Trophy plus older GT feel in the menu and the driving model is a different from GT5. It felt I was bicycling the Leaf though the corners.

I though it was 4pm when we saw the E3 demo - didn't check this one though. 8 degrees in Autumn at northerly lattitudes (who knows where Autumn Ring is meant to be...) would fit all of those points.

My demo is still downloading. I can't believe how slow the PS3 is with wireless connection. My internet is very quick on my computer and my downloads for demos and dlcs on my xbox 360 take very little time, it make no sense.

Mine took less than 45 minutes to download and install and I only have 5mbps down, how long has yours been going?

I don't know, maybe at the development time it was still to buggy and unfinished. Another thing that makes me think it's still the old tire model, is the drifting into the corners style. I'm competing for the Academy seriously this year and it is the same as last year, fastest way around corners often is to throw the car into it a bit sideways with the help of brakes and downshifts.
