Yeah garage sorting resetting all the time is a pain. No Default settings in garage tuning can be a pain.. Actually some of the settings will go back to default if you change the part back to default, then upgrade it, or vise-versa.

Gran Turismo Retrospective

The racing genre must be in terrible shape.
Indeed, did you read both Gamespot Forza 5 and Gran Turismo 6 reviews??? It makes no sense at all; a game with less content than its predecessor and who plans to add content from the previous games through DLC's and microtransactions is better than another that fixes some of the major issues from the previous game, improves in pretty much every aspect and just because the way you get money is slow as it has been in every past GT game, they immediately think that the game forces you to buy microtransactions when the other game does even worse.

People say GT is not realistic enough but yet what other game has made gamers actual licensed racers?

What does the game's realism have to do with sponsoring a competition? They didn't just become racers by playing Gran Turismo, there was loads of real world effort and learning involved. GT was just a filter, any semi-realistic game could have been used for that.

Not really when people like Lucas Ordonez and even Sebastian loeb say the game, especially the physics side of things helped them prepare for whatever they had to race in.

You can't really say that for NFs shift. Lol shift.

Yeah, it's hard to believe that people affiliated with GT over the years would have positive things to say about it. I would be quite surprised if Loeb took GT5 and its awkward off-road physics for a whirl to prepare for his next race though.

Of course, that's not to say that the game can't help your real world driving. The best things about games like GT (yeah, including shift) is learning tracks. Unfortunately, as far as physics go, there are much better offerings out there.

^of which most if not all are on PC.

When it comes to console sims, GT and Forza are where it's at.

And I think Loeb switched over to GT3 racing for the most part. Haven't heard much of his rallying exploits as of late.

Kind of sad. The negatives listed on gt6 are the same on Forza. The one thing questionably different is the environments. Then again, the photograph audience is a joke imo.

Forza 5 was reviewed by somebody who is not into cars or racing games really, yet gt6 was. So meh. I still like gamespot.

Do you really believe that nonsense? Im sure they said that because they have an affilation to, Do you also believe that gt has made gamers into licensend racers or were they amatuer racers who dreamed of being pros and happened to also play gt and found gt academy to be their best hope to sponsership?

Short answer: yes

Long answer: yeeeeesssss

GT did help the hopeful find the next big step to a career.

Well perhaps you should research those gt academy drivers and see if they had ever raced kart or anything else when they were kids, im sure you'll find it was not gt the game that made them licensed racers but the gt academy programme EDIT I see you added a bit to your post

And why would a pro driver choose to use a console game as a tool instead when there are much better options? Clearly his comments are due to his affiliation

The GT program included playing Gran Turismo so you can't really say it's all just due to affiliation. And you'd be surprised at pro drivers being rather casual about their choice of hardware. You'd think a busy race driver would bother finding the best video cards and processors for a PC?

Forza has less content but what is there is markedly improved compared to its predecessor. By comparison, GT has a vast array of content but compared to its predecessor the changes are much more subtle. That's how I read that.

To clarify, you could take two screenshots from on-track gameplay, one of GT5 and one of GT6, and in most situations it would be very difficult to tell which is which. I mean, even the HUD's fonts and displays and sounds are identical to GT5. Given the same car on the same track at the same time of day I doubt many people could pick out which was which.

And from what I've played thus far of gt6 I agree with the chunk of the community here that would disagree with you when you say "[it] fixes some of the major issues from the previous game" - notably the quality of sound, the competitiveness of AI, and the variance of quality/immersiveness between "standard" and "premium" are what I'd call "major issues" that haven't been fixed. Some other "major issues" this forum seems to dwell on is the lack of a true livery editor, as well as the track editor really being a "track randomizer," and the continued existence of multiple cars that are really the same car in the car list (ie miata, skyline) supposedly for the sake of count-padding. Features that may or may not be coming in a later patch are not reviewable and can't really be looked at positively in a review - a review shows what the game is like in its current state and nothing more. That said, the new menu system is vastly improved, as is the death of the used car lot and the addition of more performance and aero parts to seemingly all of the cars. Coffee break challenges are really fun, too, and the integration of licensing to the career is much more logical.

Is GT6 better than GT5? Yes I think so, in nearly every way. But is it so much better that it feels like a whole new game? I'm still not sold, personally. The things I've been most excited by have all been content-related, such as the new tracks, which could have just as easily have been DLC for GT5. I think that's what the gamespot review (not just the score but the article that came along with the review) was really saying - GT6 is great but not different enough to warrant its existence as a new game.

Regarding GT Academy and the Ordóñez and Loeb comments - if PD/Nissan are helping pay your bills, it's not in your best interest to publicly defame them. Participants in the program are not likely to be unbiased. Kind of like asking Michael Jordan if Nike makes the best shoes.

Of course it is, I dont understand your logic here, Especially as the guys you mentioned are/were affiliated with gt when they said those things. Just because gt was used in the progam that doesnt mean these guys suddenly give a completey honest view on how much gt made them a real driver, Would you expect them when asked how how much the game has made them become real drivers to reply "didly squat gt aint nothiing but a game and theres far better options ou there" These guys raced cars or karts and did not become licensed racers through playing a game,

And you'd be surprised at pro drivers being rather casual about their choice of hardware. You'd think a busy race driver would bother finding the best video cards and processors for a PC?
If a busy pro driver was using software and its physpics as a tool to prepare for his next race then im sure he will not seek out a console game and im sure his team would sort it out for him and as you say he doesnt have time to find the best video card then why would he choose a 7 year old console? Why would he need to look for the best pc components if you;re saying a console will do? Short story is PD have really sold you on this one.

Well duh they have when I bought all their past titles.

I don't get what's hard to believe that people like Ordonez used GT as a stepping stone to a career and merely saying affliation. That's like saying the university of South Carolina is merely affiliated with Jordan and not recognizing it was the step to an NBA career.

I think you're being a Debbie downer.:(

No one is saying they didn't. If anything, it's exactly what we've been saying. GT was just a stepping stone, a chance, nothing more.

Aw well then. We're all square then.

Lancia Delta you're not a Debbie downer. You're just misunderstood Lancia. Just like the real car.

You do know that's advertising, right?

The way pro drivers prepare is by actual driving, and if not possible they use their own in-breed simulator which is miles more complex software and hardware wise than a console game.

And c'mon, Loeb? With GT5/GT6's rally physics and tracks?

Actually, have you ever driven a sports or furthermore a racing car? It's entirely different than GT6. To the very most is useful for learning tracks, which in GT6's case all of them are inaccurate except Bathurst.

Also, Ordoñez and the rest didn't use GT as a stepping stone. They used GT Academy, in which the only process where the game is involved is the first one, that consists of who abuses the physics and practices the most. Then things get really started.

Nether Forza 5 nor GT6 are deserving winners of any award this year. Both are just as they were a product of their countries motor industry. Both huge megafactories that do their job by investing big and mass producing their product with huge workforces. They both use all means they can to beat eachother, then few blokes out of some shack in Italy handcraft a masterwork that blows them all away.

As in real life, so is in virtual racing. Assetto Corsa came with precise laser scanned tracks, incredible physics and car selection that includes legends and left both in the dust.

Loeb said GT4 helped him learn le sarthe. He said the main difference was the bumpiness. The world tracks are very accurate from race drivers words.

You forget Forza has real f1 cars, a livery editor, superior engine noise and the smoothest framerate of any game on console.

The problem here is they didn't even mention this in the good points of Forza. They mentioned mostly stupid things that they think are better like an easier career. This is why I don't like most game reviewers as they criticise and praise different racing games for stupid things like an easier career.
