With Gran Turismo being a Triple-A gaming franchise, I fail to fathom GT7 coming out in 2014 and being leaps-and-bounds improvement over both GT5 and GT6. I also don't want to imagine PD thinking that Gran Turismo games have to be released several different times like Forza. Between GT4 and GT5, there were what... three or four Forza titles? I'm just thinking too much on development. But at the same time, you want to show some evolution and progress.

There are just too many variables to consider in trying to make the next breakthrough Gran Turismo. I am thinking about each GT being some sort of breakthrough. You can't have a breakthrough if not much change is offered between a current title and a newer one. What will constitute a "new" or "breakthrough" GT? Many people would need a complete thread to discuss these matters. If it takes only months or maybe a year and a half to iron out many of the kinks in the current state of Gran Turismo, then the short turnaround time is worth it. If not, then it would be safe to assume that 2016 is an extremely safe bet for the next GT.

I want to buy that 2014, or at least the first half of 2015 is a safe bet for the next GT to land. I am just looking at this as "how much improvement is needed for the next GT to be better than its predecessor, and how long of turnaround time is needed to make it happen?" That's how I see things.

You know how car manufacturers make the lower model cars ugly on purpose, so that their more expensive models look better in comparison?

I think maybe PD might have done that with GT6.

Take a whole bunch of features that were in GT5 and completely remove them, then some of the ones that were there, not include them at release... don't use anti-aliasing where it was actually used in GT5 (road edges and lines), make the career mode a lot shorter, make the ai slow down for you so it is painfully easy, put big huge blocky shadows that pop in an out and crawl up and down the screen in the background, don't fix the sounds like you said, etc, etc..

Then when GT7 comes out, and they fix even half of those problems, they can compare it to GT6 and say, "See? Look how much better it is!" Obviously they did improve on some parts in GT6 like the menus and loading time, but I think those will carry over to GT7.

It does explain why some things are so bad and haven't improved in GT6 when they really could have...

Wanna bet?

PD can't afford to lose another start of generation. GT7 will be among us in late 2014.
I think, GT Academy will come to PS4 this year. Would love to see PD join the next generation this year, but my stomach says that it will just be GT Academy as a teaser.

Especially since Driveclub keeps getting pushed back... I've heard April '14 to September '14. Sony doesn't want to hurt a new IP.

I agree that DriveClub will be very late - it was supposed to be released on day 1 of the PS4 and they published small previews and stuff quite regularly. Then they suddenly pushed it back to 2014 saying "Early 2014". And now there's still no release date and rumors saying it's coming in the second half of 2014. Underlining that theory to me is the lack of updates and news around DriveClub basically since November last year. Strange story... Vaporware maybe?

Oh God, that "Vaporware" term is so heavily abused it literally incenses me. But that's actually the original point of its use by many, so maybe that's not surprising. You're basically implying Sony are "selling smoke" with Drive Club, or that they have no intention of releasing it, or deliberately announced it early to shift consoles...

Maybe you mean that, but it seems highly unlikely that Sony would do that given the risk of negative repercussions. It's much more likely that they're just going to take a bit longer to get it finished, and rather than make "promises" at this stage, they'll just work until they can get around whatever difficulties they've encountered. The use of "Vaporware" in that case (a genuine developmental delay) is disingenuous and mean-spirited - akin to "trolling" (despite "professional" use of the word in that context).

One other option is that they're redesigning the gameplay around other games, perhaps to offer something more unique or to cash in on, er, disappointment with other games. A last minute redesign, however cynical, and / or a lack of feedback, does not immediately imply "Vaporware".

Ok, maybe the word is too harsh for DriveClub. Actually I don't think the game is going to be released anytime soon. I expect it to be released at least one year late as they seem to have redesigned the game for whatever reasons. Hope, the late launch won't affect any plans for GT7.

I highly doubt the next GT Academy will be on PS3, even if it was released this summer, it will most likely be on PS4.
How do you figure, with no GT title on PS4, why would the academy be on that system?

Agreed, if the goal of the project is marketing for GT as a brand it would make more sense to use the ps3s huge user base to provide the best results for the show

Problem with that is having 2 disappointing products in a row will make people weary of the 3rd.
GT7 is in the works, that's all there is to it.

Also the bolded part...what?

I personally think this because, if GT Academy was a preview of GT7 like it was for GT6, it surely would be on the same console as the game is going to be released on which is PS4.
GT6 and 5 actually. The first public GT5 demo (370Z stock and tuned on Indy Road) was used for the Academy as well.

If we're jumping on the hype train and saying random things about GT7, I will go ahead and say that I hope it will come out on PS3. I will not buy a PS4 or any other next-gen consoles. I don't feel like spending 500 euro yet again just for The Great Kaz Show 7.

BWX is probably describing a car that has several models. The base has 16" wheels, black trim, cloth interior. Yet, it has power everything, same colors and same engine as the more expensive model. It may look like the polished high end model but, it doesnt have all the upgraded features( I guess).

Then you won't get the game at all, because they would be stupid to release it on the PS3, for business reasons and the sake of progress. The PS4 is 400€ by the way and is able to do other things aside from Gran Turismo. ;)
You don't know PD well, it's neither. ;)
There's always 2 main numbered GT's on a console, thus the next odd-numbered entry now has to be on PS4.
