I wonder if GT6 will experience some of the delays that GT5 experienced I hope not

Shouldn't do......

Was it a*conscious*decision to announce GT6 only a few months before its release, unlike GT5? It seemed as if GT5*was announced years and years before it was released, this feels more like ‘we’ve announced it and it’s coming soon.’

“It will be before Christmas [2013], definitely.

“I think as time passes all developers and publishers get better at these things and learn from past experiences. Announcing a date and having it slip is definitely not something that we want to happen, either on the developer’s side, the publisher’s side, or the consumer’s side.

Lucas Ordonez tested a V8 Supercar yesterday, and today there's a photo shoot with him and some GT Academy cars in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Another clue for the suggested GT Academy Australia.

And to top that nissan motorsport Facebook page made mention about the GT academy today

It is fantastic to see all the new content for GT6 today at Gamescom and get the release date but I was hoping to have it a couple of weeks before the PS4 launch as I fear it will detract from playing GT6 to the max. It's a good situation to be in but a little frustrating!

It really can't. They're going to have to release it by Christmas, ready or not. If they miss the holiday season they miss the best chance for sales for an entire year.

It's worse than that. If they miss the holiday season because of a delay, they blow the entire purpose of releasing it on the PS3 out of the water.

Well, not necessarily. GT4 slipped to mid-February 2005, and it was the hottest selling PS2 title for six months. But I do expect GT6 to be pretty much on time too, so this point is rather... pointless.

And those six months were when the PS2 was the hottest thing on the market because it was pretty much the only thing on the market, as the Gamecube was already practically dead and Microsoft were looking for ways to get out of their contract with nVidia. Still well before the Xbox 360 (and over a year and a half before the PS3) launched and took most of the attention (if not sales) away from the system. A GT6 on PS3 releasing after the Christmas rush would still sell, but come hell or high water Sony would want the sales before Christmas and before the PS4 starts taking off because it certainly wouldn't sell as well.

The one piece of news that im happy about is the fact Brands hatch is in GT6, but does anyone know if its just the Indy track or GP as well?

I am slow on the news-catching front, so forgive me on being a late bloomer to any of this.

* I am pleased to see Brands Hatch be included in Gran Turismo 6. I kind of see Brands Hatch in British motor racing to Mid-Ohio in American motor racing. Brands Hatch is a track I've always respected. I am so used to the Indy course that I am not as adept on the Grand Prix course. Bring on the challenge of Brands Hatch! I'm really surprised it has taken five Gran Turismo titles to finally have proper racing tracks from the United Kingdom. It all began once London was in GT5 Prologue. Then tack on the Top Gear Test Track. Now include Silverstone. No offense, PD, but why NOW include more tracks from the UK?

* More importantly, I am glad Apricot Hill not only returns for Gran Turismo 6, but even gets the night racing treatment. Apricot Hill is one of the best original tracks from Polyphony Digital. It's just sad how this track- like Mid-Field Raceway- was just cut from the GT5 lineup of tracks. I always thought Apricot Hill was a very good and very technical original track. Man- Apricot Hill has never looked better! I even kind of welcome the challenge of racing this track at night. Well, I'm going to have to play GT2 through GT4 to imagine racing this course at night! For some reason, I almost thought GT6 had Yas Marina Circuit or the Dubai Autodrome when I saw the night racing clip of Apricot Hill Raceway. I wouldn't mind seeing either or both courses in GT6, but I like what I see with Apricot Hill at night.

* The cars shown in pictures are very cool. The Pagani Huayra is surely hot. The 2013 Ford Focus ST looks sweet. I used to not like the Fisker Karma much in looks, but I've slowly grown to love the Fisker. It will be great to push the Fisker Karma EcoSport on a variety of courses in a variety of races. Had it not been for Gran Turismo, who the heck would know about Cizeta and the V16T? I love the BMW 507 and the Z8 (one of many forgotten cars in my view). I was even pleased seeing the Shelby Cobra Daytona return to Gran Turismo after last recalling it in Gran Turismo 2. Finally among cars, I was VERY proud seeing the Audi R18 TDI in the Vision Gran Turismo video.

The short turnaround time between GT5 and GT6 still concern me. Even with the newer tracks and cars slated to roll out for GT6, I am now starting to feel a bit less concerned about such short turnaround time for GT6. There still needs to a bit more to get a salty GT veteran like me real excited for GT6.

You're entirely right about the current gen competition playing catch up with PS2 and GT4 back then, not quite the same situation as now. I thought about it after I posted it, because I had previously said the very things you allude to, about GT6 being surrounded by some big next gen sharks this time. "Having to be relevant and appealing" and all that.

But at the same time, it seems that Gran Turismo is its own pocket universe. Who would have thought that the gaming public would ignore a massive amount of bad press about GT5 - in fact, two years of it! It's still selling surprisingly well new, in a market which is likely swimming with used copies. Another million since December 1st? Inconceivable!

I still think that if GT6 managed to slip until February of next year, it would shoot up then level off much more sharply than it would in December, but at the end of the year, I believe it would still sell pretty close to the same number. Pure speculation of course, but Gran Turismo is one of those games which defies conventional wisdom.

Plus there are two key factors helping sales.

1. It's not a bad game in the overall context of gaming, just not as good as other GT games.
2. It's the only game of its type on PS3. If you want a game like GT, GT is the only option on the PS3.

Without competition GT would have to be Duke Nukem Forever bad for it not to sell in big numbers. As long as there are no other options and the game is 'pretty good with a few flaws' it will sell.

That doesn't mean the game is amazing.

I totally agree with you, Brands Hatch was the home of F1 in the golden era of the 70's and 80's and one of my favourite tracks on the planet, but like you said why has it taken this long for PD to get real British tracks in is a mystery, there are so many great tracks from Britain that why they went for Dunsfold and London in the first place is beyond me.

For the turnaround 3 years isnt small for a game that is an evolution of its previous release, maybe for PD 3 years is a small turn around but for most Software developers it isnt.

London was okay for a street circuit, TGTT was a gimmick that wasn't executed very well, and Silverstone would have been my last choice for another UK circuit to put in. Brands is great though, and it would be awesome to get a few premium BTCC cars in the game as well!

Something that I just noticed on the GT website was this quote about Willow Springs which indicates we might only he getting the main track and none of the shorter versions or karting tracks: Of its many layouts, the circuit we are introducing this time is the main course, the “Big Willow”.

Straight from the Gran Turismo website on the track page.

I'd have to disagree on London, like the TGTT I thought it was a poorly-designed track that was far too short and too narrow. The only time I was able to have fun there was in the Mini 1.3i.

Does anyone know the name of the 2nd song,I think it is probably an unreleased Daiki Kasho song ,not sure.

I know this isnt the car request thread, but now we have the R18 TDI, let's see the 2011 908 and Toyota TS030 get stuck in the action! By the way, I cannot WAIT to have a go with that car.

Just pre-ordered GT6 15th Anniversary Edition. Hopefully I can shell out 70 pounds after GTAV comes out. :scared:

I don't think you can argue with many of the courses lined up for GT6. While I'm proud seeing the likes of Silverstone and Brands Hatch among others, don't forget about that track in Australia called Mount Panorama Circuit (or Bathurst). I'm probably one of the biggest non-Australian supporters of Australia in Gran Turismo. Bathurst is almost always quite the roller coaster ride. Insane racing is to be expected once Bathurst gets some face time in GT.

Part of me still says every track should have some sort of environmental engine where time and weather are factors for all courses. It's just something I've thought about seeing Apricot Hill at night. I'd even want to see courses like Grand Valley at night. Anyone who knows me often knows I call Grand Valley as the signature course of Gran Turismo. Why not make that signature course a bit more interesting? I still envision a newer premier GT event besides the Grand Valley 300km. Can you imagine... the Grand Valley 1000km? 24 Hours of Grand Valley? We may or may not get time and weather for all courses, but it would be a great evolution track-wise with a deep environmental engine.

Being the late bloomer, I just saw all the different 15th Anniversary cars with those fancy blue colors. As someone whose favorite color is blue, I love those 15th Anniversary blue cars. Those would kind of be like my livery if GT6 had a livery package for cars. I'd keep the two different blue colors, only that I'd find some gold-colored wheels. Kind of like the blue and gold combination if you are familiar with the US Navy's Blue Angels. But those are some sweet-looking cars.
