GT6 Sales Discussion

think it's a bit early to talk about sales figures. initial figures are estimates, it takes a bit more time to get realistic figure from NPD, Charttrack, GFK etc... better to wait after holidays and see where sales are at

anyway I am loving the game except for the sounds which really need fixing and was going to say grind to get cr. - but now we have a workaround

Bathurst rocks and loving all the GT class race cars they added, so I prefer it to GT5

I don't even want to waste my time arguing with you

We've established that your time is precious, but let me indulge you a little further.

I don't miss your point, I disagree with some of them. As for 'beloved producer,' I could not care less whether it is Kaz, you, Mr T or whoever that produces the game. To me it seems that the people who mention Kaz most frequently are those who are complaining, as in, 'Why does Kaz not listen to ME?' or 'OMG Kaz why u no include the Crazy Frog tune as horn sound 10023?'

I am not biased. However, I enjoy Gran Turismo more than any other driving sim/racing game at the moment. There was a time when I much preferred TOCA 2 and Colin McRae Rally to GT1/2, but I have since gone off Codemasters' games. Maybe GT7 will be terrible, and I'll be disappointed, but I'll find something else to play instead.

I am not playing a Polyphony PR game. You want me to be honest? I get easily irritated by people who complain ad nauseum about things that aren't really that important, whether on this game or in life in general. Yes, I always want to win an argument, but I do not need to be dishonest to do so. I provided you with the source of my quote in the hope that you'd read the whole article. If I was being dishonest, I wouldn't have done. Simples. I'm not sure whether plenty of people want the skip feature, or if its just you and a guy called Bill you once met down the pub, but don't you think that more people would prefer PD dedicated their time to making Bathurst look pretty than spending time developing a feature that will add very little to the game?

Back to the subject of sounds again - given that they already have made some improvements to the sound, and that PD have said they are looking into it, and also that they have suggested that significant updates are going to be introduced almost monthly for the next year or so, then to me, it seems like a pretty safe bet. Clearly to you, it doesn't. They are aware that the sounds have been criticised. They have made it clear that they are working on a solution. Making an assumption from these points makes it more than reasonable to think that an improvement will come sooner rather than later. I don't think that is over-optimism on my part.

Am I disappointed by anything? Personally, I might enjoy the chance to paint my cars the way I want, but the game looks fantastic regardless. I'd love to drive an E30 M3 or a 205 gti in the game, but I can drive a Ferrari Daytona or the Moon buggy (absolutely a gimmick, but a fun change.) The physics - already a strong point of GT5 - have made a big step forward in GT6. Whatever (low) opinion you might have of it, the AI has improved to a degree, though if you want satisfaction from beating opponents, I would always recommend playing online if possible, whether you play GT, Forza, FIFA, COD or anything else.

And since you mentioned the microtransactions - I'm not bothered about this feature personally, but others had mentioned how it was frustrating spending so much time grinding for credits. Polyphony noted these comments, and have offered a solution. Sounds suspiciously like they're listening, to me..

Oh, and Kaz doesn't have to go, because it is his company. Unless he runs PD like Charles Morgan runs car companies, I'm pretty confident he won't be going anywhere.

This is my first post in ages here at GTP, just to say thank you for such a great post! 👍

Why does everyone think this game isn't going to sell like GT5? Is digital sales ring a bell, i know i bought mine on psn, did GT5 realese on psn at launch? Gt sells over time it isn't GTA5 where it breaks records at launch that's COD and gta.

Because GT5 rightly turned a lot of people off the series. I used to be a die-hard GT fan until the last game. Some of what I've seen of GT6 shows improvement, but I've yet to see enough improvement to bother picking up a copy.

Well your still on the forums you must not be to pissed off about it, have you visited the Forza Fourms? It's way worse with threads being locked and deleted everyday, it's just people expect the perfect game and the truth is it's impossible.

Who knows? There are thousands of factors why some games don't sell well. GT6 came out around the same time the PS4 was released, that's probably a big factor in it due to lots of people migrating over and selling their PS3's. Or it could be those five or six spoiled jagoffs who complained about something really trivial like one car that's not in the game and they told their friends not to buy it, and then rumors spread and whatnot. Could be bad advertising, Forza's got all the dorito and mountain dew packages anyway.

Or yeah those people just moved on to Forza, I can't see why though considering Forza in my view is a piece of garbage that just looks good.

I personally don't really care if only a couple million people play it instead of a few million, as long as there are people willing to race me online I'll take them on with open arms. I am loving GT6 more than any driving game out there, and all I have to say to the people who don't play it is: "You're missing out man."

If bad sales means the series will change in the future, I am ok with that.

I am going to get flak for this but GT is a lot like COD. It certainly does not release each year, but each game is very iterative. IMO GT needs to change its structure.

The GPS course maker is a step in the right direction but a step that has yet to be actually taken.

I hate that I cannot play the game. crashes when ever I try doing anything. im thinking of returning it tomorrow and getting need for speed.

Disagree about customization, "passable" isn't good enough for me, and I do find something wrong with GT's structure of just being lists. I guess we can agree to disagree.

Disagree about customization? But I agreed with you that it needs to be improved. Unless you're disagreeing with my opinion that it's not one of the bigger areas that needs attention? That'd be fair, because honestly I'm not all that interested in livery editors or other visual customization options. Would be neat if GT had these features, but I could enjoy GT7, 8, 9, 10, all the way to infinity without them. Though I would like to more non-visual customization options, such as tire width, drivetrain conversions, engine swaps, etc. (For instance, I'd love to be able to convert my Alpine A310 to an electric. :P)

Passable, by definition, means "good enough"... albeit just barely.

And what exactly do you find wrong with GT's event list structure? It's not like the alternatives are honestly all that different fundamentally, seasons are basically a list of events but with less freedom on the order you tackle them in. The only structure that I could think of that'd truly be a big difference would be open-world, but that'd be a poor fit for a game that's about circuit-based racing..

...GT, one of the biggest franchise in the world, has no official forum. So do they pick up feedback at random?
I think you are forgetting that the GT6 pages on PSN has forums which aren't just populated by three diehard fans and a few blow-ins. Truthfully, I don't know if earlier games had similar, but I know they gather info from various sources, including the games from GT5: P onwards - they just don't engage in conversation, that's all.

Are you seriously suggesting the two titles can be seen as interchangeable? How is your copy crashing? Maybe someone can help with suggestions for that. Mine was hanging for a short while yesterday whenever I went back to GT Home, but online was having problems at that time and once it got corrected, the game was just as fast and smooth as before.

My own did the same as well, and became normal again. I think was due to GT6 attempting to connect to its online it seems.

This! 👍
Agreeed!!!! This need a huge improvement. the races are so boring. No qualy, no standing starts, no pack racing, no batlle for positions, no pit strategy.... and so on. Gt6, the real car collector simulator. I was a big fan of the gt series, played all the games since gt1, but reading all this critics, i ll keep playing rfactor with all of this plus 95 ai cars and multiclass racing, than buying gt6.

Well... I actually realized my time is precious very recently ! Since PD monetized it actually.

And since you mentioned the microtransactions - I'm not bothered about this feature personally, but others had mentioned how it was frustrating spending so much time grinding for credits. Thank God for PD!
...you have no problem with monetization. How surprising !!

Meeting expectations is not the same as being perfect.

You can be optimistic about PD, but Sony is calling the shot because Sony is the publisher, they pay the bills and if they decide PD need to release X amount of DLC every month, well PD will have to release X amount of DLC and anything else that could use improvements will be done on the side will limited resources. They said they would fix the sound in GT5, they updated it and made it worse with even more "wind noise", so far it is rational to be pessimistic about Kaz's claims and ambitions as he shown time and time again that he has lost touch, like the Japanese gaming industry as a whole.

IMO I have to say that I hated that PD took out the wind noise in GT5. Maybe it's because I mainly use interior view and sound level wasn't/isn't as nearly as high as it is using roof or bumper cam?

At the end of the day its a game, I personally really don't care much for physics, graphics if it does what its meant to do, entertain than its good. I might just be easy to impress, but how can you ever want anything better. Graphically or otherwise, its astonishing to me how terrible the gaming community has gotten over the last few years. You have so much bit will never be satisfied, because you want more than you get it, you complain more when you get it. Developers can't win, its not the developera

Gran Turismo 5 sold 2,385,184 units globally its first week. GT6 sold 803,714 globablly its first week. So about a third as much. The 2nd week numbers will be more telling as we will know if the short week had anything to do with it or not.

Interesting numbers considering theres 2-3x more PS3s in the wild today then there was at GT5's launch.

lemme tell the factors of the low sales of GT6:
- mixed/negative backlash from the previous GT game
- progressive updates and patches turns off potential buyers, thinking they'll be buying a beta game
- PS4 release
- the microtransaction scheme and its "direct" greediness
- the 20m cr anomaly turns off some, thinking the game is broken especially now videogame sites are putting it in news
- lower media/advertising hype, in comparison to the previous GTs
- technically GT5.5: it is how GT5 should be, but buyers are smart enough to know this swansong ps3 game will not be groundbreaking
- quite expensive
