GT6 Sales Discussion

I would like to have these 642 cars in GT7, GT8, GT9, etc.

But when we tasted semi-premium, it's more difficult to come back to standard....

Rather take the "difficult" opportunity than a complete impossibility. And that's valid for the tracks you mention too.

GT7 defiantly needs to be a massive Step up or even more will walk away. the powers there to create the game he imagines but can he? I think he needs to listen to his market not his mind.

I'm glad I got this game a present. I'm very unimpressed and I would have been pissed if I paid $60 out of my own pocket for it. I feel like an iPhone fan, this game is a half step up from the previous version but I feel obligated to defend its superiority.

That being said, I can't leave the game unfinished.

Many people gave up on GT after GT5. Many other people were waiting to see if GT6 would be a big step forward and make us forget GT5 ever existed. Unfortunately, this latest installment not only carries over most of the major issues of GT5 it also introduces plenty of new complaints.

To me the game feels like GT5 with a better menu system, slightly better career mode, and better physics but with somehow worse graphics and worse sounds. There are also some features missing like Shuffle races. Everything else is nearly exactly the same. All the old little annoyances and gripes are still there.

It's GT 5.5 like I've been saying forever!!!

OR it's the GT5 we should have had three years ago

the problem is PD (and just about every Japanese developer for that matter) has completely lost touch with what the consumers want, and while they have faltered, their competition has continually gotten better and better...

people want customization, people want cars that sound like cars...they dont want to listen to elevator music in a driving game...most people find the inclusion of standard cars to be comical (it is)...people want real damage...they dont care if the damage is 100% accurately modeled in regards to real world physics...they want to see dents, and wings fly off, and shattered glass and the audio that goes with it

what makes GT popular for some, (particularly on these forums) like the "its a driving game, not a racing game" crowd or the "its about collecting cars" crowd...just doesn't fly with the general consumer and GT's sales will continue to fall, along with its review scores until Kaz realizes this...

to be honest Kaz is probably lucky that PD is a first party studio that has had mega success in the past, because a third party publisher would have booted him ages ago...

GT6 is a huge step in the right direction (in regards to the user experience compared to GT5) but the excitement isnt there...im enjoying the heck out of GT6...as someone that has owned every GT game back to the original i appreciate it for what it is...

but part of me wonders if im enjoying it simply because i chose to get a PS4 and NOT to get a Xbone at launch and have to miss out on Forza 5 (Forza 3 and 4 were much better "games" than GT5), and since im not a PC gamer GT6 is really my only sim option...

the average gamer did not grow up in the PS1 era...they grew up in the Xbox era with Project Gotham and Forza...to them GT is boring, they dont understand what the point of the standard cars is, they dont understand why there is no damage, they dont understand why the cars sound weird...

PD MUST...
- embrace customization for REAL...livery editor of ANY kind...more body/aero kits

- damage...doesnt matter if its real time and physics based...people want their cars to fall apart when they crash, even if its just for the "wow" factor

- sound...even if the sounds are not 100% audiophile accurate...V8's need to sound like V8's...race cars need to sound like race cars...

- standard cars must go...i dont care if it cuts the car count in half (or even worse)...you dont need the 99 and 02 Viper GTS (one as a standard, one as a premium) they are the SAME car in different color choices (except the 02 has ABS in real life)...we dont need a whole page of standard mid 2000 Honda S2000's...the single 2006 Premium version is enough...

- give us something more on the single player front...the old formula of just a list of races just isnt going to cut it anymore...we dont need a stupid contrived story to go with the single player, but there should be something...earn sponsorships as you go along (great way to tie in a basic livery editor)...grow rivalries with other drivers...form a race team (great way to incorporate B-Spec)...make me feel like im racing in a "season." have a calendar where i pick and choose races to enter throughout the season

- DELIVER your features...dont talk about stuff that wont be in the game...dont talk to me about a course editor that is 100x100km and then a month later its 50x50...then a month later its 10x10...then a month later it "wont be there day 1, but its coming!" Dont tell me you're "working on sound" but its not ready...no, stop doing things that are cool, but dont bring anything to the table (moon missions?) and get your work done!

there is so much more i could list, but this is the stuff that comes to mind right now...

Agree 90% with you. I don't care a about damage at all.

I'll add this to your list of things Kaz needs to stop doing:

Stop focusing on your BIG MOVIE with Sony and all the other little distractions we read about.

If you stop and think about it, it's wholly unacceptable that it took THREE YEARS for PD to release a follow on to GT5 and for that sequel to be half baked at launch.

I'm pretty sure this involves the pre-orders as well.
Didn't GT5 sell ~2,000,000 in the first 2 days?
As far as I can tell, your post seems premature.
Uhhh. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who makes premature posts on this forum. :\ Was I too much? :sly:

From a creative perspective chances are something will go wrong once you try to anticipate your audience “demand”, so you better stick to your own vision. From a commercial point of view it is a very different matter. This is where compromises come in place most likely. Compromises may end up in very pain-full decisions. Pretty sure PD monitors game usage and adapts its content from that gathered information. This could partly explain/justify what has been upscaled, updated, removed or what has been standby-ed/delayed for upcoming updates. However, before asking for Kaz to listen to its audience, you may have to make sure your personal expectations are meeting the ones of the larger majority of the players, like easier golding of events or shortening of endurance events to name the most obvious ones.

From what I've been reading around the web and from my opinion this new game just doesn't have enough new stuff. I threw this game on my Amazon Christmas wish list as a pre-order not really caring if someone got it for me. Let me preface the rest of this post as: I played GT1-GT5 pretty much exclusively. I just wasn't into many other games. I was also either single or in a relationship with girls that either played with me or didn't mind me playing. I was die-hard GT. I would not have actually purchased this game as a pre-order myself because things have changed.

Along with my full time job, I have a small kid and I'm going to school so GT6 isn't something I can play for hours at a time. It just isn't different enough to get me excited. There aren't many new cars I'm interested in and the majority of the cars in the game are old tired recycles from GT5. Many of these "performance" models were old news when GT5 came out. From what I've seen there are only a handful of new cars that can't be had in GT5. I know there will be DLC down the road but who the hell wants to pay $60 for a game that has a severely limited selection of new cars, challenges and general variety? Lunar missions but no Pikes Peak or countless other amazing tracks? Really? Save that crap for the Wii crowd.

The sound.........good god why couldn't they at least change it. If every car is going to sound the same at least make it different than GT5. I don't care if my SLS sounds like a rotary or vise versa. JUST CHANGE IT!

I was never a big fan of B-Spec but now that I can't devote serious time to this game I really miss it. I want to have fun with the game, not spend a ton of time grinding. Not being able to grind via B-Spec while I study or play with my son kinda sucks. I don't care what anyone says, grinding is not fun for anyone. I want to be able to go win new races when I start up the game. Not sit there and grind for half of my limited available playing time.

These are just some of the reasons that this game doesn't really appeal to people who have been playing since the beginning. It's more of a "I'll get around to it" game than a "I must have and conquer" game.

I honestly hope this game sells very poorly. Maybe that will finally be the wake up call PD needs to actually listen to fans and customers.

I like career mode, it's the best of any GT so far for me....

And I don't see what we can do more on online mode ? I find it really full.

I can't tell if you're serious or not. There is no offline career in GT it's just a bunch of races strung together. There's no career there at all. You can imagine you're in a career, but in no way to do you ever get the feeling from the game that you're progressing from the Amateur up to the professional ranks while doing anything offline. It's just a bunch of races slapped together.

I don't think the standards look bad in this game in motion, and for the love of god why does no one complain about GRAND VALLEY! Its the worst looking track in the game. To be honest deep forest and trail mountain just need a re treeing * yes I said that*. Grand valley is in desperate need of remodeling. The lighting is awful and it was broken in GT5; the textures look like puke or green acid sludge, buildings look dull and boring, the tents are low res , and the rock textures are ugly and inconsistent.
Well, if you would just keep your eyes on the road while racing you wouldn't notice all those things :sly:

it will be by far the worst selling GT game of all time...and it will be deserved...nothing that needed improvements, changes was touched. Just a few new tracks, menus and cars....

I've only seen 2 posts from you this past week, both in the last 24hrs actually, and both are right along the lines of, nanner nanner nanner, where are all these nay sayers now?
Is there really a need for that?

Confidence to say that, has nothing to do with this, not really - it's a matter of how you personally perceive the game. As for me, I've been grinning like a kid again with each new thing I find in GT6 - now for me that says it's more than a mere update.

Not really, but couldn't help myself. You do know I have a tendency to act the way I did, it's what I call "pay back". I just needed to do it. :P

Also, I don't see them anywhere, their not saying thing. Sooo.

They, dare I say it, DID change the sounds. And tire models, and suspension dynamics, and aerodynamics, and overall physics, and bot behavior. You guys pretending nothing has changed aren't helping your cause any.

The aero didn't change and the parts in gt auto don't improve the aero, which is sad seeing as they went and made parts that should effect it like flat floors with diffusers. Tire model has change and so has suspension. Sounds have still not changed and PD have told us they are place holders trying to say otherwise to go at bat for PD isn't needed or anymore helpful than the crazy extreme that wants GT to fail.

Also the behavior of the AI hasn't really changed if you've followed the series. Is it different than GT5? Sure, to some degree it is different. Is it different than GT3/4 slingshot ability around AI or aggressive line keeping, no it isn't. Do they let you catch up from a massive gap that hasn't been seen in any other GT game? Yeah.

It's different somewhat but like the successors in the past to a new core game for a different sony model, they're still closely related and similar. (e.g. GT3 to 4 on PS2 or 1 to 2 on PSX)

Admittedly, I almost always handicap myself PP wise, and end up with enjoyable races. I know some here think that's a stupid thing to do, but how is that any different than making the bots faster? Same difference.

I've actually enjoyed listening to the cars in GT6, to the point that i leave the car sounds cranked over music in replays.

Clearly, some people are never happy. ;)

So have I that doesn't change the behavior (which is the issue) of what the AI do, that a coding issue. What PP or car I pick doesn't fix a coding issue. Many people have been doing this... Also if you know it doesn't change anything from making the cars faster then why would you mention that you handicap yourself...since going the opposite as you've done and others is also the same difference.

Who is never happy, I just agreed with you based on facts that GT6 is not the same as GT5, it is similar but not the same. However, I also made clear that the parts that are the same should and supposedly will change. The sounds aren't good they're the same ones we've had for a long time and that is why PD are working to update them as they've said.

Once again misguiding people who are new to this forum just like the extreme hateful side you dislike, is equally as bad. Overly optimistic or overly apathetic doesn't help.

The operative word, of course, is "change". Not "improve". The bots will now turn into grandmas if you're still way behind coming into the final laps; I've watched them add a solid 10 seconds to their lap times so that I could win. And yep, that was with a massive self-handicap (a very-lightly tuned Demio versus an Integra Type R). I just did the Rainmasters race at Spa and found two hilarious new AI behaviours; I exited Eau Rouge intentionally slowly and saw three AI close the gap on the straight afterwards, only to all cut the throttle when they got near me to avoid passing. A few turns later, I was back to a 2 second lead, and stuck my Viper in 6th to cruise through turns, braking early and only using part throttle. It took them until the back straight to catch up, and I needed to nearly leave the track to get one to pass.

The tire model seems improved, but there's the laughable bug of narrowing the rear tires of any car with staggered tire widths if you equip aftermarket rims. The PP calculations don't take increased downforce into consideration despite GT5 doing it. So you're absolutely right; things have certainly changed.

Says the guy who was supposedly done with the series. Still around, I see. ;)

Ownership of the game is not a requirement for membership. Not that his prediction on the game's sales is a far-fetched one; the second GT game on a specific console never outsells the first, and that was when the new generation of consoles wasn't released before it.

800k in two days is hardly a failure. IT probably sold around a million or more taking into account digital sales.. if it comes in 3rd best selling digital wise I can put my money down it actually sold 1.5-1.7 million in a week. * as best selling digital game so far is GTA 5 and cod ghost and its yet to be updated.*

The sounds are better than MOST racing games. And dynamic wise are the best I have ever heard in any game. The fact that the sound samples are wrong is what ticks most people off. PD have in my opinion the best dynamic sound system in any game , but there putting poop noise samples.

Dude, you didn't even play the game but watched youtube videos. Watch and see GT6 evolve more than "Oh GT5.5".

What was that line from that song?

Of yeah, "son your mouths writing checks your a$$ can't cash"

But I'm just quoting a song.

I can guarantee I've played more hours of GT 1, 2, 4 and 5 than you. I did skip 3 in that list because I did skip 3. Never played it.

I'm not a fanboy of the game, I'm a fan and will call things like they are. This version of GT is NOTHING more than GT 5.5 or the GT 5 we should have gotten back in 2010.

I'm not surprised that some people here don't remember 2010, they were probably to busy wrapping up junior high school and going through puberty to pay attention.

I remember and so do a lot of the other people who have been playing the GT series since GT 1 and we remember the 5 years it took Kaz and the boys to bring out GT 5.0 and how much of a letdown it was after WAITING FIVE YEARS. It was cool but it wasn't special. It was grossly underwhelming.

Now three years later we get a half baked nearly betaware version of a GT game full of the SAME OLD SAME OLD standard cars, 20 versions of Skylines and S2000s same stupid AI same mediocre sound same questionable car customization.

Physics are better and we have more tracks.

Yea.

I LIKE GT6 AKA GT5.5. I'll be playing it most likely every day for the next year and a half until I relent and buy a PS4 because for all it's faults GT is still hella fun for me and still the best driving simulator with the best community following it with the best variety of races and challenges. AND I'm going to continue to criticizing this game as long as it doesnt live up to the potential it's capable of and as long as Sony and PD keep asking me to spend money on the sequels and content. If I'm asked to spend money on a game then I want that game to be what I want it to be and won't just applaud like a slack jawed gaping ape of a fan who takes whatever's presented to them, no question asked

"how is that any different than making the bots faster
". Please tell me you didn't really mean that. If you don't know the difference racing wise between handicapping yourself to be able to run the same lap times as the AI vs. making the AI close to the same speed as you throughout the course, you may just have to give up your right to make any critical input GT game design.

Its basically the same thing using two different methods.

Honestly I'm kind of glad GT6 is struggling. I don't mean to wish ill on PD or Sony but through this challenge I think they'll come away stronger. GT5 unfortunately reinforced the idea that it's acceptable to ship a game half-finished because people will buy it based on name recognition anyway, and GT6 is suffering as a result of that. Hopefully the development staff has also learned a few more things, like...

- The importance of marketing. It's amazing that GT6, one of PlayStation's perennial franchises, received no advertising dollars from Sony. The Ronda event, Kaz doc and First Love were more self-congratulatory pats on the back than anything else, hardly relevant to customers. You could have the best game waiting in the wings, but no hype = no sales.

- Pay attention to the competition. Look at their development cycles, look at their priorities. Project Cars certainly isn't on the same level of GT in terms of market status but it's gaining steam because the development team is listening to the fans, they're giving players what other developers won't and that means something. Meanwhile, PD is still shut away in their cave.

- Don't cut corners. Standard cars are a perfect example of this, as are all the duplicates. Don't design a game in such a way as to hide the fact that it's short on content, or to force players to grind endlessly to increase longevity. Nobody wants that.

I do really like GT6, much more than GT5, but even I have to concede that PD and Sony really need to change their approach going forward if they don't want to see this franchise fade into irrelevancy.

Its basically the same thing using two different methods.
No it's basically the complete opposite. What you have now is a situation where the AI are extremely fast in the straights and extremely slow in the corners. It's not racing at all, just a time trial with moving pylons. With proper AI, they'd be the same speed as you in the straights and corners, a completely different experience.

This is racing, not reaching for the shelf. It's the complete opposite and as plain as the nose on your face. The goal is not to get to the finish line at roughly the same time as the AI, you can do that either way, the goal is to race, to see the AI as side by side competition, not a moving pylon. I'm not sure how much clearer I need to be. It's blatantly obvious.

No it isn't.

In most sports, racing included, the true competition is an internal thing. This is the reason people are able to spend hours hot lapping in this game. They are challenging themselves, they are their own competition.

When racing in a field of competition, the ideal is to be challenged so that you push the boundaries of your own performance that little bit further. That is the spirit of competition. In the real world every racer out there started from the back, and developed their skills from there.
They try their hardest in every race to beat the competition.

In GT if you try your hardest on the track with equal equipment, you are pretty much garuanteed a win. Now in a game as opposed to the real world, there's nothing wrong with someone just wanting to play & be assured of victory. However I don't understand PD's evident opposition to using a technique that is 20-30 years old - a difficulty slider. Thus allowing the, "I just want to win & acquire stuff as fast as possible" as well as the "I want to have to struggle for every podium, let alone victory, against a convincing AI, that makes me think like a racer, makes me choose the right overtaking spot, makes me think about every milligram of pressure I put on the throttle or brake." crowd

I would prefer a racing game in which it takes me weeks of practice to achieve a 1st place against convincing AI. Than one where it takes me hours to determine just how much I have to cripple myself in order to make it feel a bit like a race, even though I start at the back of a train of cars 20s behind the pole sitter.

Just my opinion of course.

I wish I could like this 100 times. It's so obvious, I just don't understand how people can't see the point being made!

Well, according to this study:

http://www.olganon.org/?q=node/33361

It won't ever matter. The thing that will give you the most pleasure is racing against another real human.
In the study, apparently even when people were racing against other humans, as long as they were told that their opponent was a computer, their pleasure was decreased. Seems to suggest that improving the AI is a rather low benefit pursuit. Finding some way to make people believe the AI are real people...
