GT6 Sales Discussion

There was a time when I much preferred TOCA 2 and Colin McRae Rally to GT1/2,

Just going to pull this bit out of an overall great post.

These 2 games capture what's always been missing from at least the off-line portion of GT iterations... the sense of excitement.

TOCCA 2 is the best console racing game I've ever played. Great level of progression, and an incredible level of excitement when running some of the later races at the top difficulty level – racing at Oulton Park in the wet and Thruxton in the fog for example, gave an incredible feeling of tension given how knife edge the cars handling was when you were right on the limit and how fast and nasty the AI was (Still remains one of the best AI sets ups I can remember) – the cars felt exactly like I imagined BTCC cars would feel after watching them on the TV, stiff, nervous, loose at the rear.

Other than GT & TOCCA, CMR is the only game I played over and over again. The physics on loose surfaces felt utterly lovely, and events like Australia I could run over and over again – it actually felt like the car was digging down in to the soft gravel.

So although GT gives us better graphics, more cars, more tacks and loads more content and options, it always feels a bit sterile as a 1 player game.

And therein lies the challenge for PD… many of the people who buy it won’t spend a lot of time on-line and they need the 1 player career mode to offer a bit more involvement.

800,000 in a week, and it doesn't include psn download version

Hardly disastrous.
In 2 days you mean, not including digital. So surely more than 800,000 but who knows for sure?. In two days. Yup, sales are way down...way way down:lol: Hardly disastrous is right!. The following week sales which I would assume will be out shortly will be interesting, but with digital downloading available, will we ever get accurate sales figures soon?

Note also, it's the number one game in the world, by a margin of about 60% over second place..in two days...oh the horror!!

This is a matter of one of those perception things, because "sterile" to me are PC sims. Very clinical, technical, rote, structured, bots as boring as the previous Gran Turismos, and cruddy graphics until this new generation of Project CARS and Asetto Corsa. Plus, very limited car lists, usually with liveries that I don't care for. Every car feels like a loaner.

Gran Turismo has somehow made car racing and collecting fun. Cool. I don't know what it is, but each game is something of an experience I can hardly wait for. And GT6 has taken the series to a new level in almost every way, even unfinished! There are a LOT of additions the team are working on for us, not the least of which is Course Maker II. Racing against bots is a blast now, though I intentionally keep my car 50 to 100PP below the race limit, except for extreme cases or if I just want to blast through it. It's pretty clear that PD has pushed the PS3 about as far as it can go, so I'm anxious to see what they can do on PS4. But this game is ridiculously cool, and when the camera pans across the vastness of Willow Springs, it takes my breath away. And it doesn't hurt that a number of the Standards are close to Premium level now.

Other racing games have their own benefits, and PC sims have slightly better physics. But Kaz gave us a series that brought racing sims out of the niche market and turned millions of us around the world into car nuts, and GT fans. And when Microsoft wanted to make a flagship racing series, who did they copy?

"Ohh, OOOHHHhh. Things ain't looking good for GT6, guess it SUUuuucks hurraaaay :dopey:" Where are those people now? Hiding inside their little caves.

This is really impressive, and only in two days not including psn downloads versions too. Hardly disastrous indeed.

I'm pretty sure this involves the pre-orders as well.
Didn't GT5 sell ~2,000,000 in the first 2 days?
As far as I can tell, your post seems premature.

Everybody's posts are premature @eSZee seeing as how we have two days of information to go on and it's both a dubious estimate at best and incomplete due to the lack of digital download data. I doubt we'll know the real sales figures for a while. More important is will GT6 have the staying power of GT5, continuing to sell in the coming months..that's the real test.

One more time, you nailed it. I agree to every word, specially the part where pc sims are boring. I get angry every time people want to push GT towars that. Left my game elements, car ownership, dealership, slow cars alone. That's what makes GT one of it's kind.

Not sure what the sales actually are, but Ido know that it could be disastrous for only GT6. Between bad sales (if its bad, which there seems to be lots of debate on) and the glitch bombing the idiotic decision to move into micro-transactions, I could see PD finishing up the few things they have left to complete (online, track creator, whatever else) and mildly supporting the failure of GT6 and focusing on GT7. GT7 HAS to perform or PD is sunk. You can see it resonate all over the board. The masses are not happy with GT6 right now. Many feel that they are using the customer base as a beta test, which it honestly does feel that way, at least in the online environment. And they sold us a fairly incomplete game, missing key online and offline functions and extras, broken functions (personal music, changing rim sizes, stockyard) and a whole slew of glitches and other issues. I would hope that they would really just blow us away with next months update. I'd be shocked though. Just don't see it happening. And if it doesn't, that would lead me to believe they have cut GT6 as a lose and are turning full steam on GT7. I bought gt1 -4 launch week and preordered gt5 and 6. GT7, if I get a PS4, I'll wait to see how it goes.

So disastrous, maybe, but only if PD doesn't learn from their mistakes.

I think you forgot to read the last page of this thread. According to the sales figures on VGCharts (which is ok for ballpark figures), GT6 is a success. In 2 days, it has outsold forza 5 which was released 2 weeks earlier.

So, will Turn 10 learn from their mistakes?

Well, I must admit that I'm one of those wanting to see something of PC sim aspects in Gran Turismo. Now, to take away everything of the legacy of Gran Turismo with its GT Mode full of races and car collecting, and Arcade Mode racing for the heck of it? No, I want those to remain, but I also would like to see race series in all kinds of leagues with race rules and restrictions, penalties for cheating, points tracking, perhaps even sponsors to win to support you. Entire racing seasons of DTM, WRC, WTCC, ALMS, FIA GT, Formula 1 - well, FGT, all manner of racing leagues represented.

In fact, I'd love to see something like a Career Mode that's like GT Academy. I still have a rough draft of my concept that I've been ignoring, but someday I'd like to fix it up properly and present it. Something that represents a kid with a dream like Lucas Ordonez who gets into enthusiast racing, and begins fighting the long battle to rise to the top of the pro racing world. Not necessarily in a story mode like some of the Toca games do, but that kind of progress from enthusiast racing to structured semi-pro leagues, all the way to pro racing in the league or leagues of your choice. Both Season and Career Mode would be separate modes, and GT and Arcade Modes would still be there to give you the pick up and play style that made Gran Turismo what it is. Those "hardcore" modes would be there for those who want to live out a virtual racing life, chasing points and championships for a nice heap of trophies they can replay as much as they want. And these modes could incorporate online play if done right. For that matter, Laz is talking about users being able to create leagues and entire online championships in GT6 when those tools become available, so what I propose isn't so crazy.

I know that this is getting off topic, but in a sense deals with the future of Gran Turismo and its desirability in the coming years, and something like this would put GT up on a pedestal so grand, I can't see anyone ever getting tired of it.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't GT keep all the cars, dealerships and slow cars, and improve the AI, Career Mode and Online racing at the same time?

It shouldn't have to be one or the other.
But I suspect that something to do with time & money, and priorities of almighty profitability come into play...

Seems more & more, behind every endeavour stands a bunch of bean counters who only know counting beans, who have the last say in everything they know nothing about.

I like career mode, it's the best of any GT so far for me....

And I don't see what we can do more on online mode ? I find it really full.

AI is adaptative. It need to react more realistically. But I had very good battles with AI, though

My main problem with GT6

- Trial Mountain, Deep Forest and Monaco are in "PS2 HD"
- And standard. All should be semi-premium, minimum

On GT5, you could close your eyes, it was even more uneven but GT6, it is more difficult to bear. Podi clearly missed time but they have to be careful next time. Suzuki Alto on PS4 will cause a scandal!

I don't think the standards look bad in this game in motion, and for the love of god why does no one complain about GRAND VALLEY! Its the worst looking track in the game. To be honest deep forest and trail mountain just need a re treeing * yes I said that*. Grand valley is in desperate need of remodeling. The lighting is awful and it was broken in GT5; the textures look like puke or green acid sludge, buildings look dull and boring, the tents are low res , and the rock textures are ugly and inconsistent.

GT will possibly loose a part of its legacy when it gets on PS4. Wouldn’t be surprised by whining threads about people wondering why PD dropped their precious #favorite manufacturer #favorite model instead of the useless #manufacturer #model. Could almost bet on “Would you like Standards to come back in GT7” polls.

On the other hand recent “info” has show us PD’s modeling team have ways to challenge time.;) So how many assets could get lost in translation remains unknown.

Trial Mountain looks horrible because of the PS2 tree's^^ Deep Forrest and Monaco have dat emotion engine PS2 level water surface.
While racing on GV, I barely notice any PS2 assets, maybe they stick out at replays or photomode? But Trial Mountain and Deep Forrests flaws are really obvious and hard to ignore while racing.

IMO Motegi and Apricot Hill are the best looking "standard" tracks^^ (good old PD even sold us GT4s Motegi for 5€/$ as DLC in GT5 xD).

With the removal of UCD there is no csr collecting. Only endless credits to buy endless cars that are already there at zero miles and any colour you want.

The fun part of collecting was exactly that. The not knowing what would be available to buy after your next race.

Now I finish some races and im like what to do now?

In Trial Mountain, it's impossible for me to take a picture, the forest is in jpeg and textures - rock, grass - are hideous.

Same for Deep Forest. The mountain is just horrible, PS2 textures, cut with sickle. It shocked when we visited Matterhorn....

Deep_Forest_Raceway_9.jpg

We can't accept it

Monaco, the background is the main problem and the buildings are flat

Grand Valley, Oddly, I like it. It lacks only the best rock textures

I would like to have these 642 cars in GT7, GT8, GT9, etc.

But when we tasted semi-premium, it's more difficult to come back to standard....

I'm happy Grand Valley is still in because it's one of my favorite GT tracks. And yes, they do look like "standard" tracks, but I'm happy they're in anyways, they're classics by now.

Attention, I don't want the disappearance Trial Mountain, Deep Forest and Monaco.

I just want these circuits are improved as Autumn Ring or Laguna Seca 👍

For example, Laguna Seca was very very ugly in GT5, it was hard for me to turn over or take a picture.

In GT6, I immediately take pleasure .... It's weird but so that's it.
