GT6 Sales Discussion

Tell people you meet about GT6. My sister asked what I had been up to and I told her. She said she bought Grand Theft Auto for her two boys, 11 and 9 years of age, and they were shooting people in the game. Because of the violence in games she will not be buying the new generation consoles. She has all 3 of this gen. consoles. I told her GT6 works on PS3 and it's safe for kids. So PD, I'm counting on you to back off the AI car attacks. Violence is violence and we need games without it.

Well, that's the whole point of calling it a beta, early access etc. Glad we agree.

My patience is legendary.

Yeah legendary as Florida's education system maybe.

So she just bought a mature rated game without even checking? Really?

39.99 will probably be permanent price soon
That's good for people like me who haven't purchased it yet. Realistically I feel all PS3 games should be that much but that is whole other topic. But to be honest I am not surprised by the numbers so far, I do however think they will pick up somewhat

AI is by far #1 problem since GT1.
GT6, AI problem 15th anniversary...

But I don't remember GT4 having a better AI. It was the same. The only difference is the car weren't glued to the road like in PS3 version because all ai drivers on ps3 versions gets driving aids 100%...
The difference in previous games is that AI back in the days were programmed to follow each others like a train.
They weren't really aware of the player, therefore they didn't give up position easily like GT5 and 6.

If they can do some justice to Senna and advertise the content properly, it might be their best bet.

But the game is bad? Sure it has its shortcomings but bad?

Juiced 2 anyone?

Define bad? Is it AI that falls over itself to let you win, thus making a complete mockery of a race game? or is it a licence test system that insults the term "Dumbed Down"?

Example. First test B-National. 1000 metres, brake and stop in the zone without hitting the cones. When I did that, I braked early, got off the brake and then back on it.

Result in any previous GT game? Bronze at best and more likely a disqualification for taking too long. GT6? A TROPHY for beating the GOLD time by HALF A SECOND!

This might be true for new franchises, or semi-unkown but well made games.
But, you have to agree that is hardly the case for Gran Turismo since the popularity of previous iterations.
All those people not living in a cave in the last 15 years heard about it or have a plausible idea on what to expect.

-Case scenario:
Your average 30 years old Jonh who played GT4 when he was young, but missed GT5 because work duties / lack of interest in gaming, now after a long time buy a PS3 and GT6 because GT4 was a great game. But once he play GT6 he realize AI now let you win too easily. It wasn't like that in GT4. 30 years old John rage quit GT6 and sells it on ebay.

He do it not because he didn't know the franchise or he is not suited to the game. He do it because something is no longer working like it was supposed to be.

Oh and yes GT4 AI is FAR from perfect, I know.
Oh, I've seen copies of old and established games in second-hand stores before now - and these weren't Internet bought copies which the store put there. I know that because I talked to the owner regularly and commented on those particular games.

People needn't have been 'living in a cave' to have not heard of GT or any game for that matter - there are other things in life y'know. I came back to gaming only after I had turned 50 - since the late 70s I had completely different focuses in life and rarely watched TV so didn't even get to hear about GT until ten years ago.

Your scenario though, is applicable for some, sure...but not a universal catch-all reason. I say this simply because not everybody thinks alike in this world, or are even bothered to the same extent as several people here seem to be.

So once you reach a certain age, violence is OK?
There has been violence of that level in games for quite some time now, personally I find them to be a good method of stress relief.

That's surely more of a design choice rather than 'AI'? Especially as there are no other cars involved. True, I don't feel as challenged by the license tests as in previous GT titles I've played, but some of those were frustrating as hell. PD probably looked at the amount that actually got completed in GT5 and decided to lighten up a bit - plus the new suspension helps a great deal.

We'll see next week how the temporary retail specific price drop affects sales.

I would love to see SONY/PD go into panic mode and push GT6 to PS4 next month of Feb in time for the Japanese PS4 launch. Or at least announce when the streaming service will go live and include GT6.
One does not 'simply push GT6 to PS4 by next month' :sly: completely different code...sorry. Sony play the long game and I'm guessing PD are happy enough to do that too.

Spare me that crap, with all due respect. It is the speculative opinion of many that GT6 was originally developed for PS4. Besides, there are several games that are on both platforms with the difference being graphical clarity. Such as BF4. It's been in my house on PS4 & PS3. It's not a "different game" requiring so much coding complexity, as some would suggest. These people are professionals, they could have daily had the code in place to run GT6 on both platforms. Kaz was one of the featured devs touting the capabilities and ease to develop on the PS4.

SONY banked on the 70,000,000 PS3 install base. The threw "snake eyes".

What? Developing the game engine simultaneously on PS3 and PS4 Dev Kits?

Even if they did, GT on PS4 would only be GT6 as it is now, less the PS2 cars, plus whatever update we get in January. I can't see that being worth the purchase of a PS4.

I'm not buying a PS4 for ONE game, that's asinine, except for people who have disposable income who can roll like that. If I don't get my PS4 when we get our tax refund, it won't be purchased until 2015.

I know it would be the same UI as what we have now. The improvements would be (assumed) in frame rate issues, perhaps AI capabilities, maybe the sound engine is ready, but that's a stretch. I'd be fine with the shortcomings of the PS3 being done away with.

Some companies are developing games on more than 2 consoles. For example, Assassins Creed 4 was released on 6 Platforms almost simultaneously (PC,WiiU,PS3,PS4,X360,XOne) only 1 year after Assassins Creed 3.

But PD on the other hand, barely manages to release a PS3 exclusive game 3 years after GT5.

I imagine the sales woes of GT6 are probably because this game was released on the end of the PS3's lifespan. Recall that the PS4 is out in the wild already. While I'd say other factors such as some bugs with custom rims, weird engine sounds, and missing features from GT5 would factor into this, I think only diehards would notice this and not buy because of it. I think to the layman, they're not buying this game simply because the PS4 is out now and is the latest 'thing'

GT6 and Christmas presents bought months ago for our kids, will be the last games we buy for an old console.

That is a possibility, though producing GT6 in three years whereas GT5 took five or so makes parallel development a little less easy to swallow. It would still take a conmpletely different coding setup for the PS4 - easier, true...but not a simple conversion job in such a short time - that's what i was getting at.

Barely? It is an improved game in many ways and faster through production than the previous game, so how is that barely...?

It´s good if it sells poorly it does send a message to Polyphony that they need to up their game and hire in some real talent and really improve the series. 42 cars in my garage just completing all Super events it´s hard to give this more then 5/10. I still manage to have fun despite the broken cars, tire modelling, tuning, AI etc etc but well it´s not hard to entertain me and it´s shocking how little has happened since GT 5.

You can also tell your sister that GT6 is catered for them and her kids can easily win races and finish the career mode. There's no violence at all as you can crash your car without any consequences and meanwhile they will learn about astrology

Anyway, 9-11 year olds shouldn't be playing GTA at all, without wanting to insult your sis I can't believe that people buy these 18+ games for their children, there's even a torture scene in there :odd:...

That's not exactly true. Any contact with the AI either with your front or your rear, and any off track excursions lead to pseudo mechanical damage. The car will handle poorer with every incident. The S Class license test and events will surely frustrate casual gamers.

Also, it's astronomy, not astrology.

How come everyone is so excited to see PD fail?

Like Obama, to show their flaws so they can be fixed. Unlike Obama, PD doesn't have the media in their back pocket to bury the truth and demonize the whistleblowers.

Yes look at all the bugs and missing features at release. I think they are happy the could release a functional and stable game for christmas.

They improved some things, broke many other things, and most of the stuff they just left like it was in GT5.
