GT6 Sales Discussion

You can also tell your sister that GT6 is catered for them and her kids can easily win races and finish the career mode. There's no violence at all as you can crash your car without any consequences and meanwhile they will learn about astrology

Anyway, 9-11 year olds shouldn't be playing GTA at all, without wanting to insult your sis I can't believe that people buy these 18+ games for their children, there's even a torture scene in there :odd:...

From the sounds of it, I don't think they played it for long. Her kids watch kid TV and she usually runs a tight ship.

The AI in GT6 attacks you in a number of races. In my opinion, someone attacking me with their car is violence.

Yes look at all the bugs and missing features at release. I think they are happy the could release a functional and stable game for christmas.

They improved some things, broke many other thing, and most of the stuff they just left like it was in GT5.

The benchmark for games should be the disc version as SHIPPED. Based on that, the game is a failure. Anything added or fixed via the internet is just "gravy". Simple things that were in GT5 like the login bonus or watching the PP level increase or decrease as power is being tuned should've been on the disc. People who don't have consoles connected for WHATEVER reason, are screwed.

Gravy does not make overly seasoned mashed potatoes right or fix garlic mashed taters with way too much garlic. Sugar and other stuff won't make disgusting whole grain cereal taste any better! Apple Cinnamon Cheerios = disgusting. Frosted Cheerios were FREAKING GREAT before the whole grain food nazi era. Even Count Chocula now is disgusting to people who grew up with it that way it was supposed to be. I need to cook dinner...

How come everyone is so excited to see PD fail?

I don't want this to fail. I want PD to fix GT6 and it wouldn't be difficult. 1. Either let me start near the front or add qualifying and then 2. Remove the slow down/catch up AI and let it run a normal predicable pace.

That then enables me to choose a car/tyre combination that gives me a good race.

Latest UK chart dated the 21st puts GT6 11th. No sales numbers though.

Don't forget the sounds.

I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that the majority of us on this forum would be classified as "hard core" GT fans simply because we are on a forum about it.

It's the people who are not GTP regulars who are not buying the game because it hasn't changed in a decade.

In my circle of RL friends who are into gaming, I am known as the GT fanatic. When 6 came out, they knew I would get it the first day. The very first thing all of them asked me (7 people, 4 different occasions) is

"What has changed? What is new?"

...to which I can only answer, "graphics are slightly better than 5, they added some great new tracks, and a rather strange and short list of new cars."

"Huh? Like what kind of new cars?" They ask.

"Well, a bunch of new race cars, new NASCARs, some older cars that are new to the game, and a handful of new 2013/2014 models...like, maybe 10-15 of them."

"What??? So there's basically nothing really different? Why do you still play that game lol??" they said.

I know that convo isn't typical of everyone, but it does strike me as an example of the attitude most casual gamers are starting to feel towards GT...the sad part is, a lot of us "hard core" guys are starting to feel the same way.

GT is turning into an EA-esq sports game...where unless your an expert, there's no difference from on enstallment to the next.

Are you forgetting that people who don't have consoles connected to the internet don't even have PP or login bonuses in GT5 because those were patched after launch? Furthermore if their consoles aren't connected to the internet they can't login for a bonus anyway. -_-

You forgot to mention the completely updated physics that make it more realistic? Well it's ironic, you realize casuals like these buy Madden, Call of Duty, Battlefield, RockBand, etc when there are no changes other than new rosters, maps, and songs right?

That was my point. Thank you for reiterating it. :sly:

Just off the top of my head: Last of Us, GTA 5 (which IIRC cost 125 million $ to make and 125 million $ in marketing), PS4, XBONE... feel free to add to the list.

And then somebody seriously expects a car sim game, which does NOT feature F1, to outsell above mentioned titles when next gen consoles went on sale and there are more triple A titles one can shake a stick at? A game which actually requires some skill and has a learning curve? Which doesn't allow you to pilot a Veyron round the Ring in 6:12 after 2 hours of gameplay?

Face it - we're the Anoraks, the car nerds, the type of "gamers" that get a mild smile from the legions of Battlefield and CoD players or hordes of housewives with their Wii fit workout nonsense.

If anyone didn't buy GT6 after GT5 it's because GT isn't Burnout or NFS. Or iracing for 10% the cost but with better graphics and physics.

But most of all - GT6 went #1 in Germany. We don't know much, but we know cars. Go figure who knows best what a good car game is ;)

Like Obama, to show their flaws so they can be fixed. Unlike Obama, PD doesn't have the media in their back pocket to bury the truth and demonize the whistleblowers.
I think some people want GT6 to fail so it could act like a kick up the backside to PD and hopefully get them to readdress some of their more bizarre ways.
They need this failure in order for them to get their act together. Else, I'm not too hopeful for whatever future installments might bring to the table.
I see. Well. I too hope PD improves their game, especially on engine sounds and AI, but more than that. I want to see them listen too, so let's see if this will help.

How come everyone is so excited to see PD fail?

I don't think anybody wants PD to fail to the point that they have to close up shop. Its just very likely that they've become very proud and weren't willing to listen to any criticism because their games always sold very well.

From now on when somebody asks about something like the damage I doubt we'll hear "We want you to focus on the beauty of the cars". That arrogant attitude will likely be gone now, and its for the better. PDs tone has been changing recently though. We've gone from Kaz saying the sounds were too real to now him finally acknowledging that they need to be improved.

Sometimes its good for people to be humbled. Even Sony had to get humbled after the PS3 fiasco. The result? They learned from their mistakes and we got the PS4, perhaps the best console ever made. Can GT6's failure result in the best Gran Turismo ever made? Its quite possible. With Project Cars pushing them as well, I expect GT7 to make huge strides in key areas.

For me, theres several reasons why GT6 is selling poorly compared to previous GT titles.

- Its the 2nd game on the same console. The 2nd GT game on the same console has always sold around 20% less then the first. This is do to the fact many people are happy with the first game and aren't too interested or excited about buying the next title.

- The PS4 launch. Many people are done and finished with last gen. A lot of hardcore early PS4 adopters could not wait for the 7 year PS3 generation to come to an end. Yet Sony wants people to keep firing up their PS3s for another year playing a visually sloppy game (even by PS3 standards
) in GT6? Not going to happen for most PS4 owners. So these people skipped on GT6.

- GT5 was the worst GT game yet. There were loads of people on my PSN and GTP friends list that were hyped for GT5. They were active on these boards leading up to its launch and we had a lot of great battles in GT5P. But within weeks after GT5's launch they simply disappeared. They didn't like the game, of course. I haven't seen them on this forum since. If I were to guess, I'd say about 3/4 of my 70 or so friends on GTP haven't logged on in at least a year. The vast majority of them were friends I made in the GT5P era. But GT5 was so bad it made them go away for good it seems.

PD spending all that time updating GT5 was a mistake IMO. Most people, like myself, stopped playing after a few weeks. I had sold the game on ebay way before the Spec 2 update. GT5 was never going to be properly fixed through updates. The real solution was to release GT6 in a timely fashion, perhaps 2 years after GT5. But they couldn't do that because they spent so much time fixing GT5, a hopelessly broken product.

- What little advertising there was for GT6 was tremendously poor. It shocks me how dumbed down GT6 is for the casual masses, yet they somehow thought putting the LCC Rocket on all the advertisements was going to somehow sell the game to the casual masses. Do they actually think the casual masses know what the LCC Rocket is or even care?

See Turn 10's advertising of Forza 5 on how to attract the casual masses. Almost every clip features supercars racing eachother along with big collisions and flipping cars. Yet look at GT6's advertisements and you see a 1642 Hudson Hornet that George Washington raced in his spare time. Or some old Alpine that only hardcore gearheads care about. Seriously, PD is clueless. They built the mechanics of the game around the casuals, yet they advertised it for the most hardcore petrol heads.

And don't get me started on the cover. That worked 15 years ago, but it doesn't work today. Like many things PD does, its terribly dated and stuck in the 90s.

- The final reason GT6's sales are lower is because its just not a very good game. Its averaging about a 81 on metacritic right now. Only a game with mass casual appeal like Call of Duty can score that low and yet still sell millions. But even CODs sales are dropping but thats another story. Gran Turismo hasn't produced a good game in years and it will sell like a mediocre game as long as it continues to be a mediocre game. The days of selling 10 million units are gone, vanished, never to be recovered, unless of course PD swallows a very large humble pill, such as Sony did when they abandoned the CELL processor, and cleaned house (Kutaragi).

Love the series, but this does feel like GT 5.5.
To me not even that. I honestly feel and think that GT6 is the worst main GT ever released. Yes, I think it is worse than GT5 (atm.). I really think that every released GT after 4 was worse than the one before it, I really honestly feel and think that. The only thing giving me hope for GT7 on PS4 is the PS4 itself, because it is somewhat a "monstrous" PS3 (around 8-10 times the power), which is much easier to program for. Regarding management and vision of what GT should be I lost all hope by now. Really, all of it. Partially PD is dead to me. Yes, I still do love GT and GT6 and I like to play it, but as a racing game it is a real joke and has lost A LOT of the special magic earlier GT's had (especially GT1-GT3). My motto for the future: Expect nothing. And I mean nothing.
My little rant (as an absolut hardcore GT fan) should be a sign of why GT starts to sell really bad. It is because it is losing its harcore fans by the millions because those, who love the series the most are at the same time those, who are disappointed by it the most and thus it is deserving its low sales. Way to go PD.

Like many things PD does, its terribly dated and stuck in the 90s.
Maybe that's why I enjoy this game. There's so many things that flood me with nostalgia. The menu music for one. There's some GT2/GT4 tracks mixed about and combined in them. I remember reading somewhere on reddit, and truer statement couldn't have been said. "Gran Turismo is our generations game - it isn't for the current generations."

This is the perfect excuse for PD revamping the GT series, starting next game release. If not, then I won't have as much faith in PD as I did before GT6. Maybe they should focus on a Tourist Trophy game if they can't give their fans what they want in GT, if you ask me.

If they focus on Tourist Trophy, everyone will do the samething they are now. "This is Tourist Trophy 1.5", "I do not have as much faith in PD as I did before Tourist Trophy 2", "This doesn't sound anywhere near as close as a GSXR1000" blah blah blah

I still haven't seen a commercial for GT6 on TV, not even during Gat Academy :(. Meanwhile, Microsoft is doing what they do best, pound you in the face with advertising.

This is the first Gran Turismo game I've never seen a commercial for. Is SONY trying to not sell this game???

GT5 was the FIRST full GT game on PS3. That's why all racing fans bought it at launch time. IIRC, 12mil copies of GT5 were sold in first 2 weeks, while future sales was almost non-existent. Here in Taiwan, at launch you couldn't buy collector edition (with die-cast model), while half year later every store offered collector edition freely with whole set of preorder vouchers.
GT6 is basically GT5 with some improvements - thus not every user of GT5 decided to buy it. Probably, most of GT5 players will buy GT6 later at discount prices or second hand. Not in hurry now. Many people are still playing GT5 and plan to play GT6 later when all promised features will be added later.
Closing of GT5 servers in may 2014 will boost GT6 sales from that time as well.

Overall, GT6 sales probably will reach GT5 sales (if second hand will be counted) one year later, before GT7 release.

They should upgrade GTpsp into Tourist Trophy Vita

There weren't 12 million copies of GT5 sold in the first 2 years. GT5 had the big burst of front end sales that all big games do; but it also had DLC bundles and rereleases and a majority of the sales most likely came from them.

I was talking about 2 weeks, not 2 years. Just checked, it was 5.5mil in first 2 weeks, not 12mil. But anyway, what i wanted to tell, is about huge sales in first 2 weeks because of first full GT title on PS3. I'm not talking about DLC.
