GT6 Sales Discussion

Yet it still managed to sell more copies than any other driving game.

8,000 more copies then Mario Kart 7 which is in 106th week. 11,000 more then Forza 5 which has a USA install base of around 1 million. Not very impressive.

Where are the figures for this coming from - I'm not seeing anything more recent than December 7th still.

The only way that reply makes sense is if you bought the game - ergo: empty shelves because you and all those other people voted with your wallet.
That was meant to be funny no?

Actually what interests me is how many GT6 copies are available in the second hand shelve already. I think that would be the best indicator towards it's popularity, as the sales figures on release consist of a lot of impulse buyers who will probably regret it later on, when they realize they are bored with the game after a week.

Not necessarily - plenty of people buy a game because they have heard of it but don't necessarily research it - quite a few GOTYs out there on the second hand shelves. Not because they are bad games, just not suited to those that sold them on.

Well you have that dude on amazon that tought it was a "tourism game" :D, but in general people that buy GT brand new are the ones that know GT's history and are looking for a good racing game. So i think the second half shelve would be filled more with copies from people being disappointed with the franchise, than the ones that don't have a clue what they just spend 60 bucks on.

The most popular games, the more copies there are in circulation. They will appear on the second hand shelves more often.

This might be true for new franchises, or semi-unkown but well made games.
But, you have to agree that is hardly the case for Gran Turismo since the popularity of previous iterations.
All those people not living in a cave in the last 15 years heard about it or have a plausible idea on what to expect.

-Case scenario:
Your average 30 years old Jonh who played GT4 when he was young, but missed GT5 because work duties / lack of interest in gaming, now after a long time buy a PS3 and GT6 because GT4 was a great game. But once he play GT6 he realize AI now let you win too easily. It wasn't like that in GT4. 30 years old John rage quit GT6 and sells it on ebay.

He do it not because he didn't know the franchise or he is not suited to the game. He do it because something is no longer working like it was supposed to be.

Oh and yes GT4 AI is FAR from perfect, I know.

AI is by far #1 problem since GT1.
GT6, AI problem 15th anniversary...

But I don't remember GT4 having a better AI. It was the same. The only difference is the car weren't glued to the road like in PS3 version because all ai drivers on ps3 versions gets driving aids 100%...

2nd week USA numbers are so awful even Im surprised

Just 63,000 week 2 , dropping to 25th

39.99 will probably be permanent price soon
Racing games sell poorly in the US anyway. They don't carry heavy advertising like Call of Duty.

Europe is usually what devours this title, not the US to be quite honest.

A stale Gran Turismo 5 + launch of PS4 = limited GT6 sales. But that's the macro-investigation. There's much more to find when we look underneath the bed.

At micro-levels, GT6 is living in the late 90's, despite 15 years having passed since GT1. The cars and tracks looks great on the aging PS3, and I think we can all appreciate how they came out. It's impressive. And that's been PD's calling card; the shining paragon of graphical prowess. But the core of GT's fan base isn't necessarily looking for the prettiest graphics. No, that's far too superficial. Consoles are nearing the graphical peak, anyways. So, we're looking for growling engines that have us grabbing our remote controls wanting to blast the volume. We're looking to kill a few hours simply putting liveries on our cars, sharing those liveries with friends and making racing teams. We are on a quest to find A.I. that rivals us. We want to be part of an actual race, where actual strategy is needed. We're searching for more interaction with the cars, the absolute stars of the game. We want more intimacy. We want to get dirty. We're looking to loosen up GT. Let's take off the business suit and hop into some shorts and a T-shirt.

And as far as the moon and space exploration go; there's a lot missing on Earth. Before going off to Mars and Venus, Kaz should come back down for a little while and attend to the engine noises, customization, etc. Over and out.
