Haha yes! Driving like that feels so great, didn't it for you?
Aelxino, good video and driving! I so want to test that car in GT6!!!

Really I don't think I'd like to guess when every corner is coming.. I just took the pictures so I could get some cool background for my iPad..

That video makes the physics look like a joke. Does the KTM really stick to the road as if though lateral forces and grip don't affect it?
Thinking about it, the GT3 Z4 video looked the same.
I would hazard a guess they used racing tires in that video. The car is very light so it won't take much of a grippier tire to make it super responsive.

Yup. Either way, it's not a road car that uses "normal" street tires. Why wouldn't it use tires that lean more toward racing tires?

The trees are looking good, but the replications of them are annoying me. I think, the repeating of something else is part of our feeling for what have a sterile look.

That's just automatically giving them the benefit of the doubt. They already use ridiculously low-res 2D trees -- why don't NFS and FM games suffer from garbage 2D trees to the extent GT does?

I would assume because both NFS and FM run at lower resolutions so there's more video memory for the minor stuff.

Why doesn't Forza have 24 hour cycles and weather? It's very simple, You give up things in some areas, and gain in others.
Complaining about trivial things such as trees, in a game that operates on rather old hardware, is just silly.

It wasn't old hardware when GT5P was released with the same problems. Nor Gran Turismo 3 back in 2001 on a nearly brand new PS2. If some of you are happy with 2D trees, spectators and very poorly textured circuit environments and backgrounds, I find that a little depressing. It's a continuing trend and I highly doubt it's going to change even on PS4.

It's not that it ruins me from liking the game, but if we're going to sit idly by and say "I'm okay with it," where does it stop? It's another thing in the long line of neglect from PD, along with a very poor damage system and engine sounds. It's all about the immersion and even little things like this hurt GT, especially when combined.

Hmmmmm actually it improved a lot through GT6. Just watch videos from the new tracks such ay Bathurst, Matterhorn... to see how good the trees are looking compared to GT5. I actually don't care as if 2d or not because PS3 is a verrrrry old harware, but I actually care more about if it'll disturb me or not. And seeing from GT6, it seems it won't disturb me but rather give me a better realism now that I'm accustomed with GT5 trees! (For information, I was saying all this for you because I personnally don't care even 2% about trees xD)

Uhm... actually, for a GT game PS hardware always kinda was not fast enough, neither was PS2, neither is PS3, neither will PS4 be...

You can't have both a high resolution and great textures with just 256mb of video memory, some compromises have to be made and PD went with the trackside stuff which is what one is the least likely to notice while racing at high speed.

The trees in Autumn Ring don't impress me, but then again it's still a ps2 ported track with a slight makeover. But have you not seen the new tracks? There are 3D trees. Goodwood Hill Climb still has the best looking trees and most realistic looking out of any current gen game. Bathurst has nice trees, Spa has nice trees, etc. And NFS is 30fps with framerate drops, and doesn't even look realistic. I'm also not sure which Forza game you're playing but those trees not only look like they're flatly lit with lighting that's completely different from the actual track, but they also sometimes have muddy textures and not realistic at all. It definitely doesn't give off the illusion of realism like when you're actually driving on GT5's 24h nurburgring.

Spa's 2d trees still look more realistic and they're definitely not "low-res" compared to the games you mentioned. I imagine it'll only get better with the PS4

Well, here's hoping GT7 puts an end to that line from PD. No other company spends as much time pointing to the system's limitations as to why certain parts of their games suffer. The specs are the same for every company, and they all roughly know what sort of limitations those imply - obviously, after years working with it, they do find little tricks (witness The Last Of Us), however. My point is, if so many different parts of the game are nerfed because the apparent lack of power the system provides, perhaps targets should be reigned in a bit, and the game should be designed for the system it's actually going to appear on, not on a hypothetical ideal platform.

I think PD did set a target, and 3d trees and spectators just wasn't one of them. Instead they focused on other things, such as a dynamic real-time lighting system. I believe they're the only developer this gen that managed a real-time day to night lighting system running at 60fps on PS3 hardware. No other game has achieved such a feature.

And for that reason, we were able to see this on 7 year old hardware..

Um Autumn ring was partially redone for gt5.. actually most of it was, and Autumn ring in GT6 seems to be completely redone..

No offence here but is this Gran Tree-ismo? I like nice scenery but I don't care if the tree's etc aren't perfect..

It's a driving game therefore all I care about really is the physics.

I'd tend to agree with you but it's not as trivial as it looks.

In fact you don't really care about physics but essentially about driving feeling. And, like the physics, detailed environments are part of that because they have a relative impact on sensations of speed (more again with the lack of G-forces in videogames, and good engine sounds in GT wich lower the adrenaline rate). It's like Monaco wich is better than Silverstone in giving the feeling of speed because the driver see better the details of the walls and receive more visual informations per second. And about threes, I think PD should more take care, especially at low corners.

But there are things more important than trees imo. Asphalt textures are really too poor in Gran Turismo and have an influence on why the feeling of speed looks so weak in GT5 (and obviously, it's even worse when you take a kart.) Even Forza 1 on Xbox 1 was better on that point.

... sounding nowhere near to a actual Ferrari F1 car.

You can say that they set a target that don't include high quality trees or spectators in order to make a game that could simulate time changes. But in this process, they include sounds, weak A-Spec mode, old PS2 assets and everything else that is broken in the game.

Like Slipz said, makes much more sense design a game to match the hardware power.
