It's a thing, it starts showing up when the tyres get below 30c surface temperature.
Not a common occurence, though - GT simulates tyre temperatures but it does exaggerate how long it takes to get out of the sweet spot, likely because they cater to shorter races.

I've seen the red many many times (this is probably not a good thing) but the blue is just so faint it may as well not be present.
Interestingly, the game manual only mentions tyres getting hotter.

you can?

Hopefully that is a little easier to see? Still not great. Whish PD would add a better tyre temp indicator as it clear does play a factor especially in this race.

From the moment I read that Race C would be a longer one early yesterday morning, I was itching to give it a try. The long race at Suzuka a few weeks ago was tons of fun. I was sure I'd enjoy this new one at Spa, too.

Plus, I'd just been promoted to DR A after Saturday's Manu Cup race, so I was curious to see what an all-A Daily Race might be like.

I managed to get in two races. Both all A/S lobbies, driving the McLaren 650S.

Race 1 (4PM EDT): Started in P11 with a time of 2:20.2. The track was dry, but rain was on the radar. Once the race started, I quickly became obvious that pace was going to be a big problem. I just couldn't keep up. By the end of the first lap (or maybe it was the second), I had been passed by everyone and was sitting at the back of the field. The rain started on lap 5 or 6. There was barely any water on the track and the radar was only showing light blue, but a bunch of drivers pitted anyways. I stayed out for another lap on slicks. It got a little sketchy towards the end of the lap, but still easily manageable. I pitted for IMs. Much to my surprise, I came out in P7 with a 20-second gap behind me. The rain had gotten heavy now. Next lap, a couple cars ahead pitted (I think it might have been their second stop, switching from IMs to Ws), and I suddenly found myself in P5, with a comfortable gap behind! It wouldn't last, though. The cars behind me were making huge gains on every lap and soon there was a pack of 3 cars sitting on my bumper. I didn't want to lose even more time by fighting them off, so I let them through. Rode out the rest of the race in P8 to the finish. 6 drivers DNF.

Race 2 (8PM EDT): I improved my QT to 2:19.3, but that was still only good enough for a P10 start. @icycls was there, too! This race went pretty much the same as the first. Similar rain pattern. Similar pace issues and fall to the back on the dry laps. Came out of the pits in P9 this time, and quickly picked up a couple positions on my out lap from some drivers that were spinning around on the grass on slicks. I was only caught by one driver this time, though, leaving me in P8 for the final laps of the race. Since I had over a minute gap to the cars behind, I decided to pit again for Ws to see if I would be any quicker on those. It did help my lap times, but by then I was in such a large gap that it really didn't make any difference to the outcome of the race. Finished in P8, again. 6 drivers DNF, again.

I can't say I'm enjoying these races as much as I did the ones at Suzuka. That is mostly down to being so slow on the track, I suppose.

I might try a few more of these through the week, just to see if anything changes.

Thumbs up, a wave, and the one finger salute would be ideal.

Also, head tracking. I want you to see me staring at you as we go double wide through corners.

@Chrome_PuPXD gv is a course of interesting apexes. I find slower and wide on the first corner helps taking the second and third with a bit more momentum. It can get really tricky with traffic though

lol. AI does turn and stare at you many times when passing! You need to watch for it. Cracks me up..

one of those was me, sigh. Almost made it to the pits, before I got caught in a R-1-R-1 turnaround.

also me. how embarrassing. not my finest display. But I was wondering why I saw you pit a second time, now I know!

DR has taken a tumble lately, had some fun races in GTWS but nothing really to show for it. Might give this one another try tonight, if I get the tires right, I can think I can compete.

I'm down in C as well. It was GVH that did it. Knew I shouldn't have even tried to race there, I'm as hopelessly off the pace as ever.

Spa is much better though (apart from the final chicane, I outbraked myself 5 times in 20 laps). Should be able to get back up to B in no time.
Agree, GVH is tricky, though I like it.

I got back to B as well. So no more victories this week. Just trying to hang on mid-pack at Spa!

What car does everyone like to fling around GVH? I've tried the GTR which seems the best compromise so far, 458 and Veyron are quick but like the sand.

Something this daily C has made me realise is that, because the weather radar always centres on the centre on the track map, and the granular blocks of weather don't ever cross the centre of the radar, every track and layout in the game no matter how small has at least four "weather zones" that (if they have weather enabled on them) can have different weather effects when the weather moves this slow.

Makes me want PD to add weather to Northern Isle for the silliness of half of one of the corners being the only bit of it that's wet.

Almost missed it...
1000.gif

Anyway....

@Rossell2 I've been throwing the Veyron (BB = -1) around there and landed at a 1:55.7xx as my best thus far. Tried the Supra, GTR, F-Type and Mustang but wasn't able to topple the Bug' in them. Also tried the Trophy because I'm an idiot. If it wasn't losing 30 seconds on the main straight I'd be driving that all day long.🤣

EDIT
...and the WRX, too. Again, we're it not for the straight-line deficiency, would be a great solution. 👍

I’m planning to give GV a whirl tonight since I had a few minutes to try out a qualifying lap yesterday evening. Seems like it could be a fun combo to rejoin some dailies with.
Hopefully will see some familiar faces out there before the end of the week!
Just be warned, in a 4 lap race the penalties are brutal and there is a bit of over trying....

There are good races to be had but just know it's a tricky one to run at pace and race at

Thanks for the forewarning. Sounds like typical B race environment and I wouldn’t expect anything less…

I’m hopeful to do some on both accounts so maybe will see you out there by the weekend. Your neck of the woods tends to be a bit more feisty 😈 tho.

Sadly I'm away for Easter :(

I'll have tomorrow night and Thursday work permitting but then that's me done this week sadly.

I really really really hope a new circuit comes in this update!

Looks like I'll be doing Race C on my alt. So far I've been able to finish as either the best non-McLaren or at the very least the best FR in the race with the Corvette, but I keep bleeding DR after every race, so alt account it is. I need the seat time to re-learn how to drive the Corvette since the last update turned it into a spiteful piece of junk that loves to spin out below 4th gear...

I made the mistake of picking the new AMG GT for Spa, I swear it must have the worst braking of the "normal" (i.e. not an old GT500, GT1 or the Skyline Silhouette) Gr3 cars in the wet, I was losing a couple of tenths in each when the track was about 65% wet.

The trick to win is to get good QT, right? GV: I was at 1:55.23 yesterday, started high up on the grid, 4-7, today I improved to 1:54.99, around 450 position, and guess what - now I start 12-14. My DR is exactly as yesterday. What is the deal here?

I did three race B tonight, and mostly with A+ on the grid. Finished around 10-14, got rammed a couple of times, but the poor results mostly due to other being quicker, and in addition I picked up a few penalties. They are really costly in B, it's super tight, and short, so 1.5 sec put's you last if you are in the back.

DR took a massive hit, now at 60% A. I know I'm not A+, not even A, but it would be so sweet to dip my toes in A+ even if only for a single race.

BTW: 1000 pages !?!? Wow.

Much better today, ran two race C from the back of the grid and was able to finish both.

First one was full dry, and I underestimated my tire wear thinking I could stop for just fuel and take my mediums to the end, but after a shunt on lap 15 I went in for a second stop for fresh mediums and was able to finish just over a minute off the leader, makes me wonder how well I could do with optimal dry weather pit strategy in this race.

My second race the rain arrived around lap 5, and based on the radar and my experience yesterday I knew there was no point bothering with inters. stopped, fuel and wets, and then ran to the end with minimal mistakes. Was able to get P3, but not sure how much of that was me since there were only 6 cars left in the race by the end.

Even without rain this is an interesting race, but I wonder how common full dry races really are. There is certainly excitement from not knowing which race we will get, but since there is only one chance to race per hour and this race will be replaced next week I find myself wishing I had a way to elect to do a dry or wet version rather than rolling the dice. Hope we see more stuff like this from PD.

Has anyone had a race at Spa where IMs were the right tire?

Had my first wet race this morning (out of three) and put on IMs and the track was too wet for them. The bar on the left of the HUD was above 50% for the last half of the race.

Yes. My race today was an example. After a dry start, the wet meter hovered almost exactly at dry-intermediate level for majority of the race. Resulted in two distinct strategies- Medium+IM vs Medium+IM+IM.

Last night's race was huge fun. The wet meter was just above IM-W level majority of the time. IM seemed to work fine but can't really comment if W would have been faster.

Never mind, I also had this problem with the 911. I'm the problem, it's me.

I had to make a brake balance adjustment in the 911 to get it to rotate nicely under braking once it got wet, normally I run -3 towards the front but I dialed it back to -1 and it slowed much nicer for me.

I took another run at Spa this afternoon. All A/S lobby. Driving the 650S. Got a dry race this time. My slightly improved QT of 2:19.2 put me in P8 to start, but it didn't matter in the slightest.

Going through Eau Rouge, right off the start, the P6 driver decides they are going to park in the dip. The P7 driver unsurprisingly rear-ends them, and I rear-end the P7 driver, and so on. Cars flying everywhere. A bunch of us end up in the wall, but I'm the only one lucky enough to get a 2-second penalty out of it. Come out of it second last and spend the rest of the race driving out the remaining 19.7 laps by myself. I finish in P10, only because 5 drivers ahead quit the race.

I'm counting that one as practice laps.

Just be warned, in a 4 lap race the penalties are brutal and there is a bit of over trying....
This is something I'll never understand - why PD imposes severe track penalties like this. In the end, all it accomplishes is people being more desperate to come back from the penalties. 0.5 seconds I could understand (to a degree), but 1.5 and higher is just plain overkill. Especially since the track looks like it's fun to race.

PD has this methodology down pat: Make something that could be really great, and do whatever they can to FUBAR it up.

OMG, I hate when that happens! Of course, I do my best not to admit it in the first place...

Concur.

Been playing this game since it came out more than two years ago... practicing Nord in full down pouring conditions (R08 is it?) for this most recent Manu race, with IMs on, was the first time I ever visibly noticed the blue around the tire gauge. And I sit about four feet away from a 51' TV.

Such a PD thing to have the information coded into the game but make it so non-user friendly. I am not even surprised anymore.

Attempt 1 in the Corvette as it’s the only one I could get sub 2:20. Rain for about 15 laps. Looked light on the radar so went on IMs. Quite heavy in reality, no grip, probably need the full wets. Got lapped, still improved DR as a few quit.

Scared by the rain, switched to the BRZ. Practice times about half a second slower in that but theoretically better in the wet. Of course it was a bone dry 20 laps. Dropped from 3rd to DFL at the first corner. Fought back to 5th by the finish.

Need to find something good at dry & wet. Not getting on with any of the leaderboard cars.

Wow, I missed a lot of posts the past couple days. I had to go to a community meeting this morning at my apartment complex so I was busy getting ready. I only had time to do 2 races at Grand Valley.

So has anyone been keeping track of what the weather does during the 20-lap race at Spa. I will try my hand at maybe a few races there. Maybe it will boost my DR up by beating a bunch of people and due to the length, maybe the points will double. But I don't know for certain if it will or not.

If I can get a decent QT time, maybe the race won't be so long and my position will go up the board.
