Looks like this week is the perfect time to get back into Daily Races. Gr.3 at Spa is already a great combo by itself, then we have dynamic weather and enough laps for different strategies to play out. I hope we have more of this kinda Race C more often.

Broke into 2:16’s in Quali after around 15 laps. The McLaren feels really good here and on RMs! Was on BB +3 to the Rear on this lap.

Decided to jump straight into the race as dynamic weather deemed QT less important, or so I thought. Starting from 7th, was up to 5th by Lap 2. Then proceeded to be in a close fight with 4th to 8th for the rest of the race as they did have better race pace. It was however a bone dry race but the close and clean racing was simply awesome despite my small errors here and there. Finished 5th and my best ever finish in an all A+ lobby.

Still got a lot to learn in those higher lobbies in the sense of “when to work together and when to go for an overtake” though (Check out 3:37:10 in Rory’s stream of this very race and where I had a close encounter with him) - any tip or suggestions are welcomed.

If Monza is the temple of speed, then GV is the temple of trail braking. That is also my Achilles heel, so initially not looking good. But once in a while even a blind hen finds a corn. I managed to get in a 1:55.232, with an optimum of .1 seconds better. I think however I'm done QT'ng this week, now it's time to race.

I did three races. Started around 4-7 and finished 4-4-5, so looking good for the DR. Unfortunately the DR increments seems to be very small for these races, I guess that is due to most of the higher rated drivers are at the Spa this week, so I need to finish higher to steal more points.

The penalties are very strict, I collected in total 4, each .5 seconds, and saw few others that got them as well. The toughest is the ess down to the hairpin, if you don't correctly time the right hander you will have to cut the left hander a bit, and risk a .5'er.

I'm in the Lancer, zero ATC and the BB all to the rear (5).

Edit: spelling....

I much or
It is. Only difference is pit exit and where the race starts.
Prefer the sprint race exit they are using.

This seems like the only race where the rain "feels" right but I can't tell if it's the length or just the track implementation.

That said they have also been clear with the rain in that it roughly coincides with pit windows for the RMs so can be judged to at least change to a wet weather tire.

Had a fun evening of racing, but I’m done! Totally wipes you out does that race.

I always race clean, hard and fair but when people start door bang, push to pass etc… the only way I fell like you can compete is to give it back.

First race was pretty fun. Started P12. Got bullied on lap 1 I feel. Few cars argy-bargy around me, and giving me some door bangs. Have to say a couple of them in my opinion were dirty. Lap 3 I make a bit of a dirty pass myself. I just giving it back to someone who I thought did it on me on lap 1. By lap 6 I’m P9, and we have light blue rain. The track is damp but not enough for inters. Lap 7 the track gets wetter. Boarderline inters & dry. The grip still feels good on the RM considering the conditions so I stay out and now running P3. Another reason to stay out was the half of the rain cloud had passed so I thought it would dry up fairly quickly. By lap 10 the rain had passed the track was drying. I pit for new RMs and fuel (but this where i come unstuck later on). Stupid 3 second penalty for touching the white line. I’m net P3 after the pit stop and the wet tyre runners ahead will have to pit as the should burn up. Lap 16 I lose a position to a quick driver but gain one with a spinner ahead, then the issue dawns on me. I check my fuel and find I had underfuelled by about 1/4 of a lap. Trying to save some fuel cost me P3, and then on lap 19 & 20 I had an amazing battle with P5. This was a clean, hard fair fight which was really enjoyable and I lose out on the line by 0.011 seconds. P5 it was. Brilliant race, with the strategy playing into my hands.

I’m in the Sky McLaren

One thing I’ve noticed, while looking at the finish line for gap, my front crosses the line first but the other drivers rear crosses first. I assume GT7 takes the rear of the car as the point to record the lap?

Full race replay

Did another race after this and it was fully wet by lap 5. 15 laps in the rain in a 5 car battle took it out of me. It’s exhausting this race especially in the wet. Again this was another great race. I went from P15 after been punted to finish P5 again. We finished with 8 cars in the race which is poor.

As with the previous example a couple of pages back, that's just your POV with your latency. The other driver's replay, with their latency may show something completely different. How the game rationalises it all out to a definitive result may well be a third different view.

"Sky Mclaren", I like that name. I don't know, we'll see how I feel. I may tackle a couple races at the Spa maybe Thursday or Friday but I would have to have plenty of rest. 20 laps requires focus, attention and persevering. Now what car should I choose? Which one will give me all the checkboxes. Speed, agility, cornering, excellent braking and smoothness.

Good luck to everyone out there this week!

Quick question before I get home and attempt Spa, are the races on the hour (9-10-11) or is it split lobbies? Would be a pain to get home at 9pm and discover I would have to wait until 10pm 🙈

Ok I can't understand this.

I quit loads of Monza last week. Fine I'll take the DR and mostly SR hit on that.

I'm at peace with that. But thinking this will be better, I was wrong..

There is a reason people aren't Higher values. It's the way they drive and it's poor, we all know that and for all you C or D rated drivers....check you self a bit. There is enough support, tips and guides to helps you.

Not in glens happy place. What's the freaking point of QT to 300th in the world and in a B/B lobby everyone is 1 second slower that my braking points are wrong??? I just don't get it.

Yeah I understand it most likely down to latency, but when I watch the replay back I notice I got the indicator sound to say you cross the line once the full car had crossed the line. So just wondering if the game only registers your car once the full car is over the line not the front part of your car.

Yeah top of the hour the races. While it can be a pain having to wait an hour for a race, it’s more beneficial I think as it keeps the lobbies more competitive as everyone enters at the same time.
I’m sure the first 1 hour race they did was every half hour and people complained due to them been quite weak

It's fine, I will just have to wait and do a bit of quali I guess. 👍

I had a crack at Spa today. Qualified 5th in a C/S lobby. Race started dry, found myself in 3rd on lap 2, but got bullied out of a couple of positions. Started drizzling rain on lap 5 but it wasn’t affecting my lap times. Started lap 7 without issue, Eau Rouge flat out, got to the breaking zone at Les Combes and sailed off into the scenery! Other cars were doing the same. By the time we nursed our way back to the pits, those ahead, and those behind who had judged the weather right (or guessed), and gone on the full wets, were long gone. Majority of the rest of the race was spent tiptoeing round in a downpour, but I could only reduce the deficit from 40 to 30 seconds to the next car ahead. Dry line finally appeared on lap 19. Altogether not a particularly fun experience, for a race that was nearly an hour long. Only 8 cars bothered to finish, which says it all. I’m hoping to have more fun/productive races as the week goes on, as I do enjoy Spa.

You would think it would make sense to have it run every 30 minutes??? I know the race is going to be 50 minutes but surely enough people are playing to split it to 2 races per hour
I thought this as well.

There must be enough splits. But im assuming the don't don't want race quitters and rejoiners for the top of the hour racers

Edit: removed the last paragraph. It made no sense

I went to full wets, finished 6the (OK, last...) but never went off on the wets. I sa someones YouTube video and they did it on IM, Thoughts?

I had a blast at the 20-lap Spa race after being away from GT7 for 6-7 months. I was nervous to return to Sport due to being out of practice, but luckily I had done some time trials and custom races last week to get familiar with things again. I had no plans to resubscribe to PS Plus (it costs money!) but when I read the front page of GTPlanet, which was talking about the 20-lap Spa race with dynamic weather, I just found it impossible to resist.

Happy to report that the race went well, with some position exchanges and close calls on the first lap, but all with zero touches! Fellow players were neat and careful. I didn't get any rain, but the race was ominously cloudy throughout. A lot of players quit before the finish, and I really hope that doesn't discourage PD from hosting lengthy Race C again.

I noticed two changes in GT7 since I last played Sport-
1. Brake balance is now adjustable.
2. There is weather radar before start of the race. No more guessing game.

welcome back!

I'm sure this much is obvious, but if there's any blue (as opposed to light blue) patches on the weather radar you will need inters. I stayed out a lap too long when the track wetness was at about 20%, just as the rain got heavier, and by the time I reached Bruxelles I was crawling around.

ugh. Im such a chucklehead.

Loaded up spa and was ready for a good long race. Got spun by a choad early, 3rd to 15th, but didn’t care much with 19 laps to go. So off i went picking through until around lap 10 i found myself tight on 2nd. Checking the weather and deciding rain wasn’t in the cards it seemed as good a time to pit as any..so in i went…and immediately decided to spaz out with the funky switch.

Yup

Inters ><

There’s no way to back out of that, is there? Appreciate someone letting me know if there is.

..decided to practice hot lapping with tire deg on as my race was pretty much over after the second pit. Still, despite spazzing out it was a fun experience. Good lobby with the exception of one cheap shot, who quit anyway. I wonder what the overlap of dirty drivers and quitter’s is..

Got totally caught out, I'm used to the lightest blue on the radar effectively still being dry based on grinding in the wtc spa and le mans races but that was not the case here.

Light blue rain arrived as I was approaching the bus stop and I decided I had time for another lap before darker blue rain arrived, two drivers in front of me felt the same way. Then the track wetness meter started accumulating, and by the time we reached Stavelot it was proper inters conditions and none of us made it though the corner cleanly.

In the end I never made it to Blanchimont. Th car felt totally on ice and I didnt think to dial in some TC to save it, just kept spinning as I tried to get back on the track as delicately as possible. I dont quit races pretty much ever but I felt I deserved the DNF in this case.

Looking forward to trying again, one downside of these races is having to wait for the hour slots but I think it's worth it vs separating the player base into half hour splits.

It's great to see you back visiting us, I may try my hand at the Spa race. I'd like to see what the weather is like for the whole 20 laps. I think the weather map is a useful tool used in races and time trials.

So what does my brake balance need to be set to? I normally have it on -2 or -3.
