I tried the race C 2 times. I used the Veyron with which I did a respectable 1:52.929 QT.
This car really uses its tires (which seems normal given its weight), and I just can't not change the tires around laps 4-6.
I tried the 4C since I saw several racers using it, and not changing tires. But I'm so slow with it, there is no point.
Not sure what to do, switch to my favorite Gr4 car (the 650s) maybe ?
The McLaren is working best for me, at least based on my QT attempts in various cars that I get along with. For me it will also complete the race without a tyre change which helps, but I'm bang average so those woth more talent may experience more tyre wear.
Today I'm going to try pitting on lap 1, to get some clean air early in the race, and see how that works out.

Qualy is OK with your favourite FR car, but in the race, choose MR definitely, I also tried the Aston in the first race and as much as I saved the tires, they were completely gone by the end of lap 8. Next race with the McLaren, no problems at all, you can see in the video I attached couple of posts ago. I see people use 4C and the Citroen in A+ lobbies, didn't have the time last night to try them out.

Really depends on the race, where you start, if there is a group fight in front of you and it's risky to pass, go for early pits so you undercut them, but if you already have clean air or a nice tow in front of you, then there is no point pitting early, might as well wait for lap 9 :)

Late night can't sleep as you do so I try racing. This is one where I snapped a bit, the driver in front obviously faster but for some reason he decided I'm going to showboat on the back straight drifting which you'll see some of in the replay. Then I get it wrong on the grass by the arches. Then I bump off the silver Mazda, which I was annoyed at doing but realised in the replay he bumped me to begin so no love loss there. So in my mind I say I'm winning this damn race if I knock you all off. 0.020s gap in the end. Was I an A-hole?

The 650s is good on tyres. The citroen not do much from what I've seen.
You know, I may give the 650S a try. The tricky part is when I enter the pit and fuel up/change tires and then exit, sometimes I'll get a 3 second penalty even though I did not go outside the white line. Idk if it's a glitch or technical error.

I am not a fan of Citroen Group cars.

I did not go outside the white line
For sure you touched/crossed the line, either on the exit or the entrance, which will also show after the stop. Really be careful when doing the stop, it's not really worth risking 3 seconds for a tenth slower entrance/exit.

I expect you are getting the penalty on the way into the pits, AT WG you have to get over to the right pretty early to make sure you don't cross the line. I made the same mistake myself, on my first race yesterday.
FYI: You shouldn't need tyres (defo no fuel) in the 650's at WG.

Check the replay. I'm sure you're touching the yellow line. Haven't seen a case where the game got this wrong

Yes, the key to increasing DR is to do clean races and not hit anyone or get penalties because that will knock it down.
Neither of these things directly impacts DR.

If your line is white there's definitely an issue of some kind. The pit entry/exit line at Watkins Glen is yellow.

If we could race at Watkins (or Brands) every week I’d be up to DR A in no time. Podiums in 5 of 6 races so far. Unfortunately I’m terribly slow at pretty much every other track.

Pitting lap 1 is working well for me. Make too many mistakes in traffic, much better to get some clean air for a few laps.

Of the cars I’ve tried so far the Veyron and Vantage were fastest over a lap but way too hard on the tyres. The NSX was a bit slower but much less wear. Can’t find the speed in the Supra that’s dominating the leaderboard.

So much dirty driving even in B/S lobby, just look at the first 2 laps, after I passed Nooo Brakes with a pre-school dummy, then it was plain sailing.

Nice driving. I watched the first two laps that was very clean from you. The others though…
Unfortunately for Watkins Glen the corners don’t help in the way people approach them. As a lot of the corners are fast opening corners, they can have multiple apex’s and people will think they is a gap and will go for it. I take quite a wide entry point into the corners which then makes the car behind think I’ve miss the apex, but I’m going for the late apex a bit further round the corner

Exactly this! And the result is absolute carnage all the way through the lap. And don't forget the chicane, I don't know if there is one lap where everybody came out cleanly :D

I'm going to miss GV. That one suited me well even though sometimes I was hard on myself for not getting a time in the mid 1:54s but then I had to remember I was comparing my time against those of A+ and high As; which I'm not even though they show up in my lobbies. That said, even running in mid pack it was super fun in races where the top 10 were separated by only 8 seconds at times.

I ended up doing 11 races on my main account across 4 cars; the Veyron (Which I ultimately set my fastest time of 1:54.870), the GT-R, the Lancer and the Huracán. I gained 9% during the week to finish at 40% DR A, my highest to date rating.

I also did 8 races on my Abroad account. This one also gained DR but less than I was expecting given it was a B account and I'd been racing at mid A level. That one was knocked back a bit by some arby-bargy racing but still up 8% to a 85% DR B. If I'd stayed on that account I probably could have taken it to A this week, but I gave up after the two glitched races the other night which had my P3 starting a weird P13 while going backwards in reverse.....

Let see what next week brings!
Newbie here. How do you get such detailed data? Is more available?

I lost count of how many races I did yesterday, but I must've done at least 10 (all Race C). I won every single one except one where I finished 2nd because I tangled with someone that was leaving the pits, then botched the final corner of the race. I did every single race in the Corvette and changed tires on Lap 5. I had a few interesting races where I had to chase someone down after they jumped me in the pits by not taking tires, but the better tires still won out (barely). I had to wait 2 years, but the Gr.4 Corvette is finally competitive! Took y'all long enough, PD...

Did you try to compare race times when changing tires vs going to the end with the same set? What lobby class to you drive in when you have the time to change the tires and still win? :)

I didn't bother with trying to do the whole race without changing tires, but by Lap 5 I was losing 1s compared to my fastest lap on Lap 2 or 3, so at best going without changing tires would be just as fast, but likely a couple seconds slower. I'm on PS4, so most of my races had were a mixed DR of A+ to B.

Race A is an epitome of all I hate about this game. Regardless of SR you're lobbed in with kids who've got bored with Forza. At least there's far less of them in iRacing.

Frustrating I know, but really what do you expect they are game consoles marketing to the younger audience.

I think the demographics of this forum skew what the reality is and that lots of younger people play the game and are just learning or trying to have fun. At everyone else's expense naturally.

Here’s a tip. Run CSA strong and TCS1 for QT. Then for race run TCS2. You’ll be .2s per lap slower but it’s so much safer.

Even with TCS2 you need gentle throttle. Go like an ape and you can STILL spin it in 2nd or 3rd. Just harder to do. You can drive it with TCS0, but you’ll be faster with TCS1. 👽 can ignore this advice.
I agree, I typically QT as low as possible, normally TCS0, but in racing depending on car and track, I would go as high as TCS3. 3 will seriously impact your lines if you QT with it, but once you have the clean lines in the muscle memory, TCR1-3 in races will not impact, unless you start using other lines, as when passing, blocking etc . Not that I ever block anyone :)

Amazing time by the way!!

It's just infuriating. No matter where I go these trolls are just magnetised to me. I am stuck in B/S because it doesn't matter how much faster I am when they can just ram me off at T1 or the next hairpin, or better yet, just crowd me out into the gravel and get off scot-free. I feel that my favourite game series has been ruined to chase the eSport market.

Ummm, I was doing my first race at Barcelona in the 1:10pm slot and my connection cut off at Lap 4, so I entered the 1:30 slot and it was fine. Finished in P9. That was weird though, I hope the servers aren't going crazy!

Got three victory today and help me become a A+ driver! Got it all done in my Ferrari GT3, extremely happy with my progress! You guys help a lot so thank you!

Is there something wrong with the servers? I hope it's not my console, (my end). I tested my internet connection this morning and it was fine so I don't know what the issue is. I'm gonna restart and reboot my ps4 and see if it works. I've only been able to do 1 race at Barcelona out of a mere 4.

Three races at WG this morning. Two ended with cars lagging and off track and then the dreaded CE error message.

Good thing I like all three races this week so didn’t have to wait much to join another race.

What I don’t like are those godawful RHs at Barca. Surely even hard slicks would have more grip? And the SHs at Tskuba are even worse. I’m getting oversteer on partial throttle with not much steering angle.

At least bad tires are good for car control!

Have a good week everyone.
