I do not understand why i keep getting pit lane penalties at the glen. All i can think of is that your not allowed to even look at the line to hard lol i try to avoid it but i think i may have touched it slightly, is that all it takes at this track?
Same thing was happening to me, it was on entry, not exit. Can’t touch that solid yellow line. If you do, skip the pit and go around.

This never occurred to me until I saw it in Tidge's weekly guide. I figured once you committed the sin, it was over. Could well be I was the only one in the shadows and unaware...happens a lot.😁

Someone hit the back of me yesterday at Barcelona which caused me to do a 180, I had to reverse and turn around to get back on track. That irks the crap out of me. Why do some rude racers do that sort of thing. Why not just go around me instead of punting and ramming me! I didn't even speak to him in the post-chat. I was furious inside!!
So, just this week, I got an 8 nM DD Pro wheel. After about 3 days I cranked up the power on it, to the point you have to really man-handle it. I did that because having resistance gave me something to push against and I could be much more precise on my turns. I found an added benefit is that, if you have a good grip on the wheel, my chance of surviving malicious drivers is much higher. You may waver a little but you keep going, same for getting lose, I used to over correct because I had no feel.

It's worth noting that not everyone online is always who they say they are...

And let's be honest ..they are some serious times!

As I have moved up to the cusp of a plus ice had a fair few YouTubers....but this is my first time with some of these aliens!

I thought I would do race A again but then found I couldn't pull the laps times of yesterday and trying to tune it just made it worse so I switched to race C.

I put down some QT laps and climbed my position on the friends leaderboard so thought it might be respectable and joined a race. It wasn't. You guys are SLOW! :D I started on P13. Found that most runners where using the 4C, which I was as well, but being at the back in a rabble I pitted first lap but then had no one to chase so my pace was off. Ended up 12th.

So I put down more QT, this time with the Supra. It's a quicker car. Next race, I started P5. Much better. I was running well in 3rd for most of the race after 2 in front pitted early and I was putting down good pace, but I wasn't entirely sure due to pitting and what not. Then I ruined it but getting all out of shape at the bus stop on lap 7 and hitting the barrier. That cost me nearly 5 seconds and I lost two stops there. All the pits worked themselves out by last lap and then it was carnage! Lots of desperation was to be seen. Up to that point my race has been serene (crash aside). I also lost time last lap as P6 in front of me was really slow entering the bus stop and I had to take avoiding action to not clobber him but that cost me as well. Then it got into a three way and a bit all over the place after that....

In the end I came in 7th. That crash, cost me a potential 4th looking at how the timing all ended up.

The two leaders were in the Supra. I was avoiding that as I thought it shredded tires. Is that the case? The 4C is very easy on tires and this was my result at the end of the race.

I'm thinking of trying the next race with the Supra. How's its tires?

Thanks for the video, big help, I’m qualifying with a 1:57 which is usually right around 10th. My line is very similar to yours but I’m on the brake a lot more than you are, I’m pretty sure that’s were my lost 3 seconds are.

Glad it helped. Funny thing is, is that it wasn't even a very good lap. With traffic and the bus stop it was about 3 seconds off the pace...

I'm having a hell of a time with the actual races at Catalunya, in the R.S.01. The car doesn't react nearly the same as it does in Q laps. And yes, I know about cold tires and heavier car because of a full fuel tank, but to me it seems much different.

I'm gonna try some other cars. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Had a guy follow me into the pits today, he came out with 6 seconds of penalties.....

Got it wrong at both ends of the pitlane 😄
Eek!

I probably lose a good 1/2s to a 1s entering the pits by going in too slowly but it is better than a 3s penalty.

I hate the exit auto drive as it straightens the car, with a wheel you have to follow the drivers movements but keep it right or you get the line cut pen

Edit:

I have improved by 3/10s but have no idea where I'm going to improve from that. I need to let the car coast more but at higher speeds but it's counterintuitive to do that. 🤷‍♂️

Gotta love that, and he probably got tires and a full load of gas 😬

Throw me down your bad laps any time.
Turns out that less on the brakes is more complex than just less brakes. It affects brake points as well as some gear selections. But, I can say the big take-away this week is smooth Vs panic braking.

I did a drive-though pit on lap 2 to let everyone else sort positions out and then knocked off 6 clean qualifying laps.
I had a very nice clean race going and came in just slightly hot to turn 1 on the last lap and Sleepy was waiting. I got on his ass, to try and pressure him into a mistake but it didnt happen 🤬

Quick times. How'd the tires hold out?

I think it's mostly in people's heads, at alien pace sure it makes a difference but they are driving the cars faster than I can.

The tires are fine, I did a no change race and finished 3rd but it was a busy race so hard to tell.

In B lobbies with my pace I make it up in the supra so it's ok, I don't win them but that's not the game I'm playing.

You can drive a supra or jag at the same pace vs 4C with tires that are wearing if not quicker. It just become more calculating.

I can't get any pace from the little fiat/lotus thing

I gotta tell you, driving in lobbies with DR B/A or worse drivers really sucks. It's been a long time since I've been here, and people think this is bumper cars. I am not having fun.

I think I'll have to run some races (maybe quite a few) with no intent to be competitive - just to get my SR back up. Because like I said, this is no fun at all.

Makes a big difference and it’s totally worth sacrificing DR by doing races just to get your SR back to S.

I let mine drop to B a few weeks ago (succumbed to a bit of revenge take outs on dirty drivers) and was in lobbies with C SR drivers! Like, how dirty do you have to be to have that rating?

Only upside is that SR appears to correlate with speed, and you’ll be more competitive in a B/A or B/B lobby than a B/S one (if you survive the race!).

I can tell you as a friend you should be doing Watkins.

You have pace there and there is a break you get to choose, just mind the traffic but it's a better race. Its more like 3 sprints so you get a mini break.

This is one reason I don't like Barcelona. I find the driving there to be a bit of a crash fest. I know you don't like longer races but to get your SR back up try Watkins Glen. 9 laps there is actually quite therapeutic I found. It did not seem long and I felt like I could drive for 20 laps quite happily as it is not a manic circuit.

If you don't care on finishing position, take the 4C, easy to drive and easy on the tires. Pit lap 1 to get out of traffic and have 7/8 laps of fairly stress free cruising. Only as all the pits play out at the end do cars tend to bunch up again. That'll recover SR in no time and then you'll be back to better drivers...

This is the truth @GrumpyOldMan

Step outside of that comfort zone and try a few.

Its good for the soul and it definitely doesn't feel like the 19 mins or so, I promise.

Buhdeima is also top split quality so not surprised if he's been getting beaten by him

Oh, the Yin and Yang of sport mode!
Had time for 2 goes at Race C this evening.
Race 1, start 2nd, finish 2nd, after good clean battles for the lead before things spread out after the pits stops mid way through the race.
Race 2, start 3rd, I’m about 0.5s behind the battle for the lead for the whole of lap 1. At the start of lap 2, leader goes wide at turn 1, No 2 and I go past on the inside, but as I’m passing, the former leader swerves back on to the track taking both of us out, when he could have just stayed out wide and rejoined as the track turns right. Stupid and selfish. 🤬

I absolutely love Watkins Glen, there is much more space to maybe go on the edge of the curb. Atm I'm at 1'57.610, but I think I can gain more time on the track. The sweepers slow me down because I'm afraid I'll touch the grass. There are more pros than the Barcelona track, it's more of a do or die situation at Barcelona. Stay on the road or suffer and drive in the sand hole.

And 9 laps won't take me too long, I'd say a race would last me 18-20 minutes max, with 1 pit stop included. Is anyone else experiencing good, fun races at WG? I think it's a blast to drive on. So, let the racing begin at New York.

Thanks @newmedia_dev & @TheNormsk - I will try WG, but I doubt I'll do it tonight because my ADD meds will wear out shortly. So tomorrow I'll certainly try @TheNormsk's method with the 4C.

If it turns out I can actually handle this length race, what cars should I try (to be relatively competitive), how should I drive them (short-shift to save tires?), and when should I pit? I've never done this type of race before. Thanks.

Overall yes. Having managed a decent QT by my standards, and starting regularly near the front of the grid certainly helps. I’m not sure if I want to go up a grade, and be scrapping at the back. 😂

The 4C is actually competitive in the right hands. It handles really well so it is about smoothness and being fast through corners to keep up. It's a very safe car for the turns and hustling it through the bus stop. However, for QT other cars, such as the Supra are easier to drive faster because of their pull on the straights.

I think if I start in the middle of the pack, I won't get bombarded my all my opponents. That's the downside of having a pole position in a race. You risk the people behind you ramming you off the track or punting you.

So, I had a great time all week at Spa last week but by Sunday I was drained. This track has been loads of fun. My QT is similar and gets me about mid-pack.

Just for fun, I fired up Watkins Glen on Assetto Corsa and the track seems much narrower.

Well I'm entering the 8:00pm slot at WG, off to my first race! Hope it goes well.

EDIT: Well I finished dead last. I made a huge mistake going in the pit, all I did was refuel and leave and I end up with a 6-second penalty. I had fun during that time period though. I guess from now on I'll just not pit and get the three second penalty at the end of the race. That's what I should have done, but...

Here is the video. What tough luck, I was doing good being in the top 10.

I didn’t race tonight because of distractions with a birthday party and then because of this.

GT7 Does Changing Oil Affect Qualification Times in Daily Races?

Not exactly scientific, but perhaps it gives some insight as to whether changing engine oil affects qualifying.

Ya, you made a late decision to cut into the pit and crossed the solid yellow on the way in and then crossed the solid yellow on your merge out. Not sure if you knew but you can decline tires and gas and just do a drive through to save some time.
You and I are very similar times and my times are still fast with without changing tires (OK, maybe fast is the wrong word… maybe consistent).
My pit strategy at WG has been, if I qualify 1-3, I’ll stay out for a while because the driving quality up front is usually pretty good.
If I qualify 4-11, I pit at the end of my first lap to put some separation between me and Mayhem. When all of the pits get sorted out and you get back into traffic, chances are that the really bad drivers will be gone.
