Yeah, there's no reason why we can't race something like this on slick tires.

You would think that someone took a day to create and automated Track/Car/Regulation tool back at PD, but no.

Is it THAT hard to create a few more BoP groups? Like, as pictured, a muscle car group? Or a classic LeMans group?

One can dream I suppose 🙄

Worst case scenario this is what their tool came up with....

I think there are so so many factors that go in to these things. Marketing want to promote a car (cough Mazda 3 gr4 cough) the desire to sometimes roughly align them to real world events and then I think there is the data.

I assume the data tells them the most popular weeks add in some social media influence, some tour driver influence and we get these races.

Being pragmatic chucking DB5s round good wood is fun as a TT but not as a race, driving karts round eiger held zero appeal for me.

Racing group cars or cup'esque cars (clio, golf, focus etc) is fine but it's the meta BS that annoys me, it's not even fractional it's just clearly "the car" grrrr

I have to admit, as much as I love road cars, the best online racing always comes courtesy of Gr. race cars.

I am totally content with the many different road cars in GT7 only appearing in races and time trials sporadically but I have to insist they DO appear.

Unless I have a reference time, I have no way of knowing how far I can push the car and Sport Mode is realistically the only way to compare myself against anyone else. I'm honestly not fussed about actually racing stock production cars, but the experience of yeeting them around as fast as possible is really my cup of tea.
 
It comes with connotations that firstly I'm not comfortable with and secondly definitely have not earned the right to be called fast or elite.

Opinionated, experienced yes but not to a level I feel or should be considered better than anyone else.
This is an interesting statement. I understand why you wouldn't call yourself elite - I totally get it. But honestly, a lot of the time, your times are certainly elite.

As for being opinionated, no, not you! (Not me either, right?) LOL.
 
Done some more at brands hatch. I always pit on lap one whether that's a sensible decision or not. You need to have a gap of 10 seconds or under to eventually go past the leader if he pits on lap 9. Now people have started to get faster I'm finding myself at a 12 second gap or above which is getting me top fives but slim to no chances of a win. What's everybodies strategy?

On the plus side I'm mostly getting clean races as well.

I need to pay attention to the race regulations from now on, I haven't been pitting at Brands Hatch which has been giving me a minute penalty after crossing the finish line. I should do it on Lap 5 or 6. But I must get far ahead from most people on the road. I'm only changing tires and not focusing on the fuel because I made it through 7 races with the fuel I had. The fuel map is a useful tool in the game. So I'm grateful for it and the radar map helps for races with rain and precipitation.

I’m happy to have gotten a win even though I haven’t raced that much this week, 47.6xx propelled me into starting 2nd/3rd, I’ve attached a 2nd place too, 3rd place zipped past me early and was the eventual winner but my race was against the pole sitter who came out of the pits and went straight in to the sand, so unlucky - has been good racing

If I'm being held up, or start further back, I pit on lap 1. If I don't, I pit on lap 9, unless I get a track limits penalty, as penalties run down as you exit the pits, so you don't lose any time or places!
 
Now that you mentioned it, I probably should pit at Lap 2 or 3, that way I can pass any drivers that decide to pit during Laps 4 to 9. It would give me a shot at getting a top 5 finish or even a win. I'm not bothering with changing tires and refueling because the race is normally 7 to 8 minutes in length.

This race in particular offers something quite novel for GT in that the pit stop is a lesson in race management.

There are a few strategies to think about.

1. Is the pack at the start still really close towards the end of lap 1? Then a L1 pit is viable

2. If you are losing time either trying to pass or defend then putting gets you out of that battle

3. In the middle part of the race is there a gap or one opening up that you can slot in to?

4. Are you lapping comfortably without pressure or pulling away alone or with someone else? You are racing them so likely you'll want to pit with them or try an under (preferred) or overcut.

The main thing is not to fixate on a specific lap but pick the most appropriate time in the context of each individual race.

I mentioned earlier that it can be extremely useful to watch the driver list to see roughly who around you and ahead have pitted. This allows you to gauge where and who you'll be around after your pit stop.

It does help to really understand exactly who you are racing. For example if the front runners pit early and come up behind you and you haven't pitted yet then in reality you aren't "racing" them. And the opposite is true if you have pitted but the car in front hasn't again you aren't actually racing them.

Just being aware will help you not waste time and let you know who you need to pass or defend for actual positions.

Since this keeps going around, I feel like repeating myself: I did not call anybody elite. I used the wording “more elite” in the meaning “better than me”. One more time: I have not called anybody elite.
 
Four races in the R34 at The Glen yesterday after leaving it alone all week because of a nightmare experience earlier in the week on a combo which I did enjoy quite a lot when it featured 4 months ago.

Amazed that I managed 3 wins, and one comeback to podium after getting wrecked at turn 1. Speaking of which, it's that corner in particular which shapes the entire contest. Fair play to my front grid colleagues on those 3 clean races, an absolute pleasure to go around cleanly and battle on route to the bus stop instead of the lunges I've been getting used to (clearly understanding the strategy required to win this race).

Credit to myself for turning consistent laps, nailing the chicane every time, and finally learning a few lessons on how to get a quick time.

Replays have been shared for those who are interested, with the bonus that you'll get to see my sparkly 'quick driver' livery I decided to slap on for the later races!
 
Well once the proper aliens appeared, my chances of a Race B win have mostly disappeared. But I'm happy to have had the best streak of wins I've ever managed in GT7 or GT Sport, and got back in to A+ for a short time.

My previous A+ experience was also with this track and Gr4, but driving the 650. Maybe it's just been the tracks layouts, but sadly it seems only 4wd gr4s are competitive at the moment😕

PD, I do wish we could save a tune though! I've gone in to several races with no tune, or even worse, a messed up half-tune - which makes for interesting handling 🤣

Excellent work mate!

This race last time was also the race that got me 3/4 the way to A+ and a similar position to you having a bit of a unicorn lap.

I'm so with you on the saving settings, 4 times I was doing the last diff adjustment and the warm up ended (I was racing to make the race so had to do it then)....the car is definitely a different/god awful beast in default spec!
 
Nicely back to BS today, Brands has been challenging and fun, credit to the clean racers today. Got some wins and had some good racing.

I'm really not looking forward to next week now.

This is just me personally but I don't particularly enjoy Bathurst and the thought of facing brands national circuit after loving the Indy circuit especially as next week is the longer format is just not floating my boat at the moment.

I've enjoyed this week, crashes and all but wins in faster lobbies. And fun week with collateral benefit improvements to ratings.

But that's the rub, I have a good week can be extremely competitive and then the next week I'm going to be seconds off the pace next week.
 
Been a quiet week for me after the optimism of Mondays good QT time. That time allowed me to start on pole for every race I entered by some margin but unfortunately that accounts for nothing when it comes to the race. I ended up being punted off at paddock hill 6 races on the bounce and just quit every time. Completely dislosioned with the whole game when I tried hard to get a good start spot and it's ruined on the first lap. Rating went down to B/C and I didn't bother for the rest of the week, was playing ACC instead. Gave it another go today and did get another win but it was the same old story after that, just shafted constantly in the first 2 turns. Am giving up GT7, have a PC coming and intend to sign up to iracing instead. Shame as I like Bathurst and the Brands GP circuit

Hi guys, I just saw the next tracks for next week. I'm not looking forward to Bathurst again in the B slot. Maybe Brands Hatch would be a good choice for me, and maybe do the Autopolis races too. See in order to improve my racing skills, i have to learn from you guys and your methods, so any bit of info would help. I usually rank between 4000-10,000 in the A slot depending on how well I race on the track, at least when you're qualifying, you don't have to deal with other drivers. You're by yourself on the dance floor.

You have to know and plan your braking and driving on the beast mountain, that's what I learned in it's circuit experience. Maybe one reason PD repeats certain track/car combos is so people that didn't do them back then can have another chance at the fun/action of the event. Even after over 2 years of getting back in the mist of racing(GT) I'm still having trouble in some areas. I started back June 2021, so soon enough it will be three years.

But I am not worried about the D rank, the lobbies are much more friendlier and nicer as opposed to the A/B ones. Even the C lobbies didn't give me that much trouble back a couple weeks ago.

How do you guys check out the races for next week?
 
Man I felt bad for this poor chap getting a penalty here! Couldn't see what happened during the race, only saw it on the replay.


Wow, what a harsh thing that was, and it was a 3-second penalty for the bad move. Well hopefully things will get better for next week, well Bathurst might be a pain but it's not in the C slot this time. So, that's good news to hear.
 
As ever here are my highlights from a week racing at Deep Forest, there was a lot of crashes in this one, I'm sure most are accidental from the tricky braking zone into turn 1 but also a few people not interesting in playing nicely. I even managed to earn myself a 22 second penalty for one incident. Aside from the bad I've loved this race, the tyre multipliers are set just right so multiple strategies can work and whilst tuning is a pain in the ass it does plaster over the monumentous cockup that is the default setup changes PD inflicted on us with the last update, it feels nice to be able to use the Porsche in Gr.3 again 🥰

Well, I decided to try GT7 again after a long hiatus. First thing was to update my Fanatec wheel, which was a nightmare in itself. How is it that PD keeps screwing up their “official” hardware so badly?!

I decided to stick to Race A only, since I’m a bit rusty. And it turns out I need to completely relearn how to drive after the physics change. So I was happy to just run a few laps and then a few races. I saw a couple familiar faces and was looking forward to get back into the groove again.

After ten races, I was run off the road, often more than once, and finished last in every single one of them. And the usual solution: give me the track limit penalties and don’t give the people who ran me off any of penalties. Fun.

At least there’s ONE THING that PD will never change. Cars that shoot into space with the latest update? Sure, why not? Even the slightest improvement to the penalty system so that people can be held accountable for ruining other people’s races? Just go watch the sportsmanship video, sonny, and stop asking for the impossible!

Which brings me back to why I quit racing the last time around. What’s the point?! I’d like the challenge of honest racing, but this isn’t the game for that. Are things really still this bad, or am I missing something that makes this time suck bearable?
