I think you overestimate how difficult it is to be properly competitive if you're practicing for it. You're using the triggers to accelerate and brake, one thumb on the analog stick to steer - whats your other hand doing? You've got a full free thumb and 4 face buttons for shifting gears. Easy as pie.

Only hard thing is faffing with the MFD, like fuel loads, switching to radar etc, it's practically impossible outside of a straight.

DR ceiling is identical with both though. Practice on a wheel and on a controller will get you to the same place - I've managed A+ with a pad and I know with the same playtime on a wheel I'd be in the same place.
Yes, u r right, in my controller times I used the giro for steering.... so steering by tilting my controller, which was quite accurate

Thought I’d try a couple more races during the day to see if it’s any better. Nope. Even starting top 3 the front two are ramming each other so I stay back and then I’m swallowed up by idiots. One moron was trying to ram me for a whole lap so I put him into a wall and got myself 4 seconds for it. Fair enough. Be nice if more penalties were handed out. Yes I’ve now contributed to the filth. Past caring at this point. The game is like some sort of kids meme generator now.

I couldn't imagine being able to do that. Sounds extremely difficult to me.

Wish someone would bring the NeGcon back.

Had a couple good Daily Race B's this morning. Lonely 2nd in the first race probably could have challenged for the lead a bit better had I realized the dang TCS turned on. 😒 Second race started 3rd and ended up taking my first win with an A driver rating. First couple laps were pretty entertaining, 2nd looked pretty nervous and had me worried he was going to back us up into the pack but he clipped the wall and I just narrowly missed him as he didn't ghost. Thanks to @Tidgney for the track guides. Really helps get up to speed quicker.

Here's a video of the 2nd race. First couple laps is where the action is.

Oh and I "upgraded" from the T150 to the TGT2. Just got the servo base and using my old rim from my old TX.

So i've been on holiday for a few weeks so i must have missed the update where PD changed the penalty system....?????
Did a few daily race B's last night and on all but one of them I was either tagged on the rear quarter, which put me in a spin, or i was pushed off track in to the barrier.... and yet no penalty for the person that caused.... even happened going down the straight, overtaking an Alfa, and whack.....

Have they really changed the penalty system again... i know it was quite harsh before but it seemed to stop drivers smashing in to you on purpose...
HAHA yes welcome back to the **** show!
PD pretty much removed all contact penalties from the game. Since then its just been destruction derby and dirty drivers all over the place. If you call these dirty drivers out in chat, they just respond with "well the game obviously though it was good move as I didn't get a penalty".

I couldn't imagine being able to do that. Sounds extremely difficult to me.

Wish someone would bring the NeGcon back.

This works well for me.

My tuesday evening in a nutshell. Albeit in a lower DR category.

Luckily I'm on vacation now with no access to my PS, so I don't get tempted to jump into these races for a while.
I’m hoping it’s just a terrible combo. This track and these cars give big gaps that invite lunges which inevitably results in getting run off the track. I can’t see me racing again this week.

Race B or C?

I did a few more Bs earlier. Now up to fourteen races in my quest to trigger the trophy (50 races).

In fourteen races my DR has remained B.

My SR started S (as it was for almost all my 400+ races in GTS) and now just fourteen races later it’s C, but it got here by way of E!

B is an absolute wreckfest. I’m sure even formerly good racers are succumbing and joining in the the aggro. Hell, even I’m tempted to let rip. What benefit is there in trying to race properly when 80 percent of the field is acting mental from the off? In GTS this ratio was reversed, you’d maybe have one or two idiots per race, but now it’s just the one or two driving cleanly.

Race B yes. And that‘s exactly the problem, I ended up joining the aggro for the very reasons you say. They really are acting mental! It’s not even the subtle push to pass you used to get (which the previous penalty system did a great job at stopping btw) it’s unhinged ramming. The front two both A+ were side by side on the straight and I was behind and they were ramming the crap out of each other; so I have a decision to make, try and capitalise and get past which risked me becoming part of it; or back off and hope one gets punted which would risk the mentalists behind catching up and punting me. I choose the second option and luckily one of them indeed successfully completed his murder and I was able to claim 2nd as the puntee I passed was dropped nicely into the path of the car behind. I glance into my mirror and inevitably more ramming which gave me 5 second gap and a quiet race thereafter. I honestly haven’t seen one car give space and race fairly, every overtake results in being rammed into a wall if sIde by side or t boned if you get ahead. It’s a complete joke. I haven’t seen anything like this since I brought my 2nd account up through DR E/D. I haven’t even mentioned the blocking,.,

Yes, the Alfa is clearly superior in the corners and in the race it benefits from the slipstream, but without the slipstream the Alfa would have had a much harder time. 7-10 km/h difference on the right is a WORLD.

absolutely a different category, it’s really funny hitting the same time with both cars nonetheless.

I recognize it’s not easy to fit cars in a 25 year window… but maybe that’s a sign for the categories to be updated!

I'm struggling with Race B. I actually enjoy the track. I haven't been punted into oblivion either, no facing backwards and ending up last type of total death. But every single race I've copped a divebomb of the millenium just pushing me out into a wall, often on the corner leading into the big back straight, lol. Every time totally unexpected because thought they're too far to even think about it so I just take the wide line to maximised exit speed onto the straight, then all of a sudden I'm punted sideways, delicious. Need to recalibrate my divebomb radar specifically for that corner I think. No penalties ever of course.

I suspect the nations cup will be extreme divebomb fest with that stupid suzuki VGT on sport soft on a track with several extreme divebomb hotspots haha

You know, i have loved gran turismo since GT1 but as of now, im stepping away from GT7 as my joy i used to have is almost gone now, i am very competitive but in a fair, fun way. I like to learn how to be better & faster and i absolutely love this chat GTPlanet, you guys in here have kept me hungry to learn & have fun in the game, i do enjoy racing and dont mind the incidental bumps, pushes, etc. But these blatant, ridiculous wrecking, divebombs, bad drivers over last couple weeks since they changed the penalty system to dang near non existent is too much for me, i go to last or near last place while they get no punishment?! I went from high B to mid C DR very fast because of this. Im 46, an old man basically, so i play to relax & enjoy the game, i didnt pay $70 for ps5 game & $400 for a wheel few weeks ago if i wasnt gonna be vested in this game, but i also didnt pay all that to have idiots ruin my fun & joy...sometimes as a man you just have to know when to walk away, and for now, i do. Ill run series race & offline with AI, they not the best but at least they dont bulldoze you off road just because you passed them.. If they correct this penalty system, ill be back but for now, im just done ,sorry

Only 1 race tonight with the threat of very severe weather in my area I didn't want my power going out mid race. This time I'm in an all B rated lobby and what a difference it makes for keeping pace with the field. I switched to the Mustang to see how that works in the race as I'm more familiar with that car. I start P4 and the race was mostly clean from where I was. I did have some problems with the car sliding all over the place from me trying to defend a 3 car pack behind me. The driver behind me gets into the back of me entering turn 2 at one point and I lose all the positions I was trying to defend. They apologized later so no hard feelings. I was behind a car with an old Harry Gant Skoal Bandit NASCAR livery which was cool to see.

Most of the drivers I was with pit the end of lap 5 and I remember to cancel the refuel as to not lose time. But, I got a penalty for ignoring the pit lines which was unexpected. I serve my penalty and then get rammed hard as I make my entry to 130R. Fortunately I don't spin and lose even more time. Now, I know I probably shouldn't have been where I was, but no matter where I would have gone, I would have been in the way. I really didn't know what to do in that situation. I know I cost a position for the driver who hit me. I'll need to have better decision making going forward.

I finish in P5 in the end. Should have been P6 if I didn't get in the way of the driver in 130R. I'll do one or two more tomorrow and then be done for the week. It's a good combo in my eyes and the wide variety of cars on the starting grid is a nice change.

Send me a friend Request if you like.
We can race together I’ll keep you engaged with GT7.
I‘m in the same Boat and always looking for similar Minded People to race with.
Cheers 🍻

Yesterday: Finally got around to making a new account. Did all the normal GT BS just to get Sport mode unlocked. Did two races in Daily B. First one I started last and finished 3rd in the GTR; second one I put in a quali time on accident (literally hit the brakes at the end of the lap), started on pole and finished first in the Jag.

Today: Saw that Aura was streaming as he made a North American account. So I decided to jump onto my main account and do some Daily Cs. Was fun "driving" with him; he's wicked fast. He was doing no stoppers in all sorts of cars whereas I was doing a one-stopper. Did all my races in the Jag just because that's what I was familiar with.

I did finish ahead of him once... which I don't even count it because, 1 - He was always starting from the back; and 2 - he was in the Audi. The chat dared him. It was a lot of fun, got me back into Sport mode, for a day anyway.

Probably did eight races total with my best result a P3.

Are daily races down?? Says not available.

Managed to get on but last race froze mid intro.....weird.

Anyways, this is an absolute BELTER of a race. He ran me wide into the, gave him benefit of the doubt and it paid off.

The alfa exiting turn 2 is insane, just launches out.

I've been gone and busy the past week and a half. Came back today to try this week's dailies and I saw the same thing. Backed out and in a few times, finally got the selection screen, made two attempts for Daily B and either black screened or kicked out the lobby that never moved forward to racing. Immediately killed my interest in trying to get back into the groove of things. I have no idea what's going on with the state of this game now.

Same here mate. I will still enter the nations and manufactures cups but as for daily races I’m done with them. Like you say just too many idiots exploiting the rules and getting away with it. Until penalties are brought back or made better I’m stay clear for a while. I wonder what would happen if daily numbers dropped in sport and if PD can see this if they would make adjustments?

Also what makes it worst I’ve seen a YouTuber (who doesn’t have a huge following but still get good views) who is a good racer and does drive 90% of the time cleanly, but the errors that they make, they then tell chat they think it’s clean when it’s not and the views believes it too. As an example on Race B yesterday they were been overtaken down the start/finish straight and they said “I’ll let this car past“, so moves to the left and when they are side by side they then move right and push the other car into barrier, and then after the faster car gets ahead they tap the rear bumper. This then gives the racing line to T1 to the YTer but then the other driver is on the inside for T2. The YTer doesn’t have radar on and takes the racing line for T2 and slams into the other car and complains they been dirty, and the chat agrees with them. Later into the race these two come together again and the YTer dives up the inside in right hander in the tunnel and then complains again the other driver was dirty as the YTer reckoned as they were on the racing line it was there corner and right off way. Am tempted to link the video but dont really want to shame people.

Good start to nations cup today - black screen before qualifier started. Lol. I deliberately joined the first session because last week, the server also crashed and booted everyone in my session and had to join the next one.
Really just not good enough tbh, now get to wait an hour again after thinking surely last week was just an unlucky once off...

In fact, it's not easy to see what's OK and what's not OK in a race.
Basically, I keep a very close eye on how my time gaps to the person in front and my pursuer are and how they are changing. That allows me to estimate relatively well when an overtaking maneuver was OK or not. If another driver is 0.4-0.5 or more seconds behind me and still dives deep into a corner to overtake me from the inside, then that is not legitimate overtaking, but a dive bomb aimed at gaining an advantage here provide.

I did 1 race B yesterday and it was tough.. but luckily fair at the position where I started. I was P3 behind me was an A+ driver, he put a lot of pressure on me. In lap 1 I was able to lose him a bit, but at the end of lap 2 I made a mistake and he was able to walk alongside me at the start/finish. Since I do NOT drive a defensive line in such situations because I made a mistake and he can and should benefit from it, I let him do it and kept the lines clean, in turn 3 I was still next to him but decided not to force it and braked a little earlier . He was then able to pull away a bit for the rest of the race because I had small "slips". But I didn't get any pressure from behind because we were already able to gain enough distance. What was noticeable, however, was that the races behind me were clearly "harder".
All in all, I think we need tough penalties again... maybe not necessarily the ones from the beginning, but not exactly the current system either. If you consider the current system as 0% and the old system as 100% punishment, then I would prefer 60 to 75%.

i only do Manufacturers cause then you at least have a bit of a chance that you will have some fair racing. Dailys and Nations are a wreckfest, especially now PD, in its infinitive wisdom, has shut the penalty system pretty much down. I really do not understand it; the previous penalty system was very strickt, but because of that you did all possible to avoid any contact, which made better racing in the end.

Now you can ram the others and get away with it, not my cup of tea. But i fear that the number of people driving on line will decrease and mostly the rammers will stay. I do notice that my friends are getting less active in the game's onlinde made, which is a shame as i know these as good and fair racers....

sometimes i can help but feel that PD really does not mind competent and fair racers are moving away from the game and that more of the rammers are coming in, perhaps they are in bigger numbers and provide more profit?

I agree with what your saying its not easy to see what is ok and what is not ok during a race.
The problem I find is you can't always chat to these players to let them know they potentially did anything wrong. 95% of the users quit straight away once the race is completed, and the only people that hang around in the chat after are those people that are wanting to highlight the issues. The only way to do this would be get the users PSN and then message them on there which is something I don't do and wouldn't do. An internal messaging system would be a good feature to add which you could then highlight or send the replay to show these players the issue but I can see this then been abused and cause way more problems. Or you could assign a button on your wheel/controller which would then create an alert to all users that highlights they is a problem.
Without tougher penalties I don't think you can teach these idiots racing etiquette.

Up to race 20 in the trophy quest, but I’m calling it quits for a while until PD gets a grip on the stupidity. In race B (Gr 4 short no-stop races are my faves for online) it’s just a complete waste of time, even if you enter with a smile and laid back attitude. There’s no way to report bad behaviour, and penalties are actually adding to resentment.

I was thinking yesterday the only way to escape the mayhem would be to qualify well and lead from the front, so this morning I spent a bit of time in qually, set a decent time, and in the six races I did I tended to start p2, 3 or 4, alas, no different, still carnage. The final straw was race 6, me on pole (the real pole sitter somehow disappeared between warm up and race start, either a glitch or he’d seen people he didn’t like in the race?) Anyway, ‘this is my chance’, I think, but first corner p2 ploughs into me and I’m straight on into the yellow barrier. By the time I’m out I’m dead last, p13. I finish the race just dawdling around, no penalties for corner cutting or whatever, just driving well within my limits. And you know what? My SR gets dropped again. B at race start, C after. So now I know for sure that victims of punts are having their SR penalised, absolutely without doubt. Maybe everyone else knows already, but I was never sure, in races I’d felt it odd I’d dropped I always wondered if I was somehow triggering it by putting wheels off, rubbing barriers etc, but not today, not in that race. An absolute joke.

It’s a playground for 12-year-olds, literal and mental. Actually, saying that insults most 12-year-olds. It’s a playground for the low IQ of any age as things stand. PD really need to do something.

Edit: Rooms this morning had people with SRs ranging from E to S, but DRs a bit tighter, generally B/A or B/C. Is that normal? I don’t remember that from GTS, I thought SR was the main criterion for sorting rooms back then?

I find early morning lobbies entered as a UK based player to be a complete mess of SR (and even DR) ... I'm A/S but have seen some crazy matchmaking before at early hours/morning.

I suspect participation numbers aren’t that high at the moment. I generally get to play mid-morning to early afternoon when the kids are in school. It would surely make sense for them to sort by SR, keeping the cleaner people together (tho would be bad news for me at the moment) and encouraging others (like me) to try to escape the mayhem by driving cleaner, even if sacrificing results.

Though tbh, even some of the SR A and S drivers seem to be getting away with bad stuff, judging by what I’ve been witnessing this week.

If you’re A/S how are you ‘protecting’ yourself? Just avoiding the races, or skilled enough to somehow navigate it all intact?
