I think this is why it desperately needs to come alongside a SR overhaul, in one way or another. My issue with either of those is that the innocent bystander (bydriver?) is still the one that gets the most punishment. What I am trying to do is keep the person who is taking a turn correctly, from being the one that brunts the most amount of pain from someone else being a rammer. Even if the rammer gets a 5 second penalty or takes damage (which they kinda do, but it times out after 30 seconsd or something), that does nothing to help the person who is now in the sand...
I think the only way to keep people from doing ramming is to take away their ability to ram. It's all a moot point, though. PD won't do anything like this.
I think innocent people being taken out is part of racing, unfortunately, it happens in real life and if we're just trying to avoid most contact ingame then it just functionally becomes a time trial.
SR really just needs to mean something. It needs to be hard to keep your SR at S, and you should be rewarded for having it stay there. The occasional contact is fine, and it won't hurt you too much to have a race end in the gravel every now and then, but if you're express delivering people to Barry R every race you have no right to be in S, and the game should knock you down the ranks pretty hard.
I still think think scalable payouts is a great way to promote clean driving. Getting half a million for finishing high in an S rank race will appeal to pretty much everyone, and if you have to actively try to drive clean to stay up there, people will want to, and try to stay clean for the money.
