Some pre-race thoughts before I even touch the Nurb.
  • Don't overdo it through Flugplatz. You lose more time understeering off than taking it a bit slower and having to defend later.
  • Mutkurve is not an overtaking opportunity, ever. Suspect a lot of wall contact here/ unlucky rejoins. Keep an eye on the right side of the track and avoid driving too close to the people ahead. Avoid going two-wide through the kink..
  • You're unlikely to overtake in the section after the Karussell, but it is an opportunity to break away from the drivers behind. Ignore the guy behind you until you get near the final straight. If you're behind, be patient.
  • I suspect some people will hold off overtaking until the end of the lap where its safest. Some will get clever and try to give up position to take it back on the final straight. Decide if keeping momentum or maintaining position is more important.
  • Expect sketchy overtake attempts in the final sequence before the finish. Its narrow enough for the guy on the outside to be sent into the wall if the guy on the inside makes a mistake. Defend if it isn't too late.
Overtaking in the corners isn't impossible. Like any other track where its hard(er) to overtake, think a few corners and adjust your line to what the guy's ahead might be. Use the momentum of the car to sneak it up the inside, rather than brute forcing a dive. Prioritize pulling away over gaining position.

Edit: First race I touched the grass before the straight LOL

Hahahaha ok that explains it a bit more I was so confused as I wasn't expecting it :D!

Congratulations on getting A+ :D!
Thank you ;) Let see how much I will stay like that (it's the 3rd time in A+, the 1st in GT7) :dopey:

Mixed feelings about race B this week.
(...)
I love the track but the broken BOP means a bad lap in the supra is still better than a good lap in anything else. And the supra is a real dog to drive. Doesn’t suit the track at all with the understeer.
I've only done qualifying laps so far.
Tried different cars, and for me the Jag is the best by far. Feels nimble and fast, a bit twitchy on the throttle, but well controllable. I've hardly ever driven it before, but on the second flying lap I already improved my previous best which I had done in the Supra (which I didn't like at all, it feels...stiff...don't know the right english words for it).

Some other cars I tried:
  • The Mustang: Okay, fairly quick, but feels a bit clunky for my taste
  • The Aston Martin: A joy to drive, feels great, seems to fit the track well...
...and is slow as f...😬

- And finally, oh my, the 911 RSR... I have driven it a lot around Sardegna in the grinding races in single player, so I thought I would be well prepared and might use it in the races. And indeed, I got it well around the track, felt instantly familiar, like expected. But boy, is it slow! What have PD done to it, the pride of german racing engineering for five decades now, with their botched BOP... I take that personally...🤬

Okay, rant over, let's do some racing...

I think it’s those last few tenths which the meta car can deliver over anything else. If the supra was taken out there might be a better spread. The beetle actually feels really good here but i can barely break into the 40s with it

I’m trying to take it the same way I did in Sport and I just can’t. Have to brake way more than I used to.

I don't know why but I feel i lost my mojo today, which is sad as I love sardegnia and usually ace the laps there! Can't even break into the 41s after about 10 Qualy Laps. Did a race and started 15 but finished 9 as people take each other out instantly 🤣

Will give it some more time tonight then reset tomorrow and hope for a better day! Nice lap time btw 🙂

I had the same feeling at first, still do to an extent. Not sure if it’s the car or rose tinted glasses toward that great Race C at the end of GTSport. But it doesnt have the same magic. The supra feels clumsy and awkward, constantly fighting the understeer and the braking feels inconsistent. The halcyon days of flinging the F1 GTR around are long gone unfortunately.
Restarting every other time because I haven’t instantly slammed on the brakes puts me in a bad mood as well 😂

I took a picture of my car on Norschliefe. Some crazy dude photobombed me and wrote his name on the rail in the background. ;)

Just did the jaguar. 1:42 now
I've got a 1:41:2 in the Jag, and I could get maybe 3 tenth more out of it.

It got me two P2 qualifiers in the only races I did today (B/S lobbies). Race 1 was "I'm an idiot, Part 427". I had P1 constantly under pressure for three laps, he started making little mistakes, and I said to myself: "he'll make a bigger mistake and gift you the win, so don't do something stupid!". And so, of course, I did something stupid. When P3 came closer, I tried to overtake P1 in the final hairpin to get him between me and P3 (great plan, right? 🤦‍♂️) I overshot it and got stuck in the wall so badly that I had to reverse across the track to continue the race. P6 in the end, should have been a podium at the very least. Race 2 was rather uneventful. P1 was fast and drove away, P3 was a BRZ so I knew that he wouldn't be fast enough to threaten me (obviously he must have qualified with a different car and tried to play it safe in the race). And so it went, a nice but almost boring P2 in the end.

Both races were super fair and clean, not a single incident to be noticed, except my blunder.😇

my biggest issue that I have is when i slow down for T3 maybe, i seem to always nick the inside wall

I only recently started to race in Sport, drove the Catalunya and Seaside last week, had pretty good results, 15 entries, finished all 15 in top 5, and 10 wins. Climbed through the ranks to low B rating and S in sportsmanship, not a single incident.

For this week I chose the Supra since it's everybodys choice, did some quali laps, 1:40.771 I think, so i figured it's ok for B rating to try.

First race, pole position, first turn, somebody trashed me from the back into the gravel. I climbed back up to 10th by the end.
Second race, second place on start, first turn, somebody trashed me from the back. Race over.
Third race, pole position, survived the first couple of turns, and by the end of the lap, second to last corner, somebody absolutely demolished me into the wall and just drove off, race over.

So I officially give up on this week, back to grinding.

Those walls are like Velcro! Everything in my real life experience says that if I brush the wall I can give it a little gas and slide the rest of the way by. Not in this game! If you touch the wall and gas it, the car turns the entire way around the wrong direction (regardless of where you point your wheels). So at that point I embrace it an say to myself, "Well, the car will come around the other way and I'll spin it the rest of the way around," at which point the car then starts to turn completely back towards the wall to where I started in the first place, but still not free of the wall! I believe I could keep my foot on the gas for the remainder of a race and watch the car drift back and forth as if it were tethered to the wall.

Velcro walls, I tell you!

This was my experience on the first few races as well. The races this week are just not that interesting. Race A? undriveable. Race B? Punt-fest that is too short to recover. Race C? A messy procession, but mostly resembling a fancy time trial with obstacles on the road.

Me jumping into the Race C this week...

I saw that the GT-R was atop the leader boards, so I tried that first. I have grown to like it in the past few weeks after all. I had a heck of a time trying to control it around the track. I had a time of 7:27.7XX and I knew I could go faster. I then tried the Vantage as I had one in my garage and over the next hour improved my time to 7:20.3XX. So, we have a winner for this week.

I entered only 1 race as I practiced so much I lost track of time. I start P9 on the grid which is way higher than I thought I would be. As predicted, a bunch of people go off track and quit, I move up to P7. A driver shoves their way by at Kallenhard and I fall to P8, but I keep pace until I launch myself off of a kerb somewhere in the stretch leading up to Kleines Karussell. I do a cool 360 and suffer no damage and fall to P10 behind a Viper. Long story short, the Viper makes a mistake and I take P9. P8 got a .5 second penalty I'm close enough to pass and then pull away on the backstretch and finish the race P8.

I had an absolute great time tonight and can't wait to get back to it tomorrow.

I did some browsing of other threads on here and couldn't really find what I was looking for if you kind people wouldnt mind pointing me in the right direction? I was looking for more wheel based content, where to start, what brands to look for, how long it takes to adjust from controller to wheel etc etc..

Tried another Race C but had to quit after hitting a wall. 2nd race in 2 weeks I quit due to excessive wheel shaking.

I really hope they turn down the excessive shaking at slow speed on the G29. It's painful. It's loud. It literally shakes my entire room. And the car is impossible to drive at 1mph?

Had a weird thing happen on controller thats never happened before... The first corner my controller was just not responding to anything... Then after that, it was fine. Hope it's not my controller going bad.

Big fan of sardegna A, I always go ok there and have some good races saved from gts. In gt7 though, the aggressive tc and need for straight line speed means only the z4 and supra really work for me. I actually set my fastest time (1.41.2) with the mustang but no way I can race that. Managed a 41.3 in the z4 and 41.4 in the supra, but it has more in it.

Both races I did were disappointing from a driving standards perspective, way too much pushing and shoving, very frustrating. I will say, the z4 is very handy, yes it doesn't have the top end so making clean passes is difficult but a LOT of guys lose it on exit whereas the z4 is rock solid.

If you're a better driver than me though, the stang has a lot of lap time in it, it feels wicked fast if you can control the wheel spin.

The lower B lobbies are a slaughterhouse. When I started my second account to try things out without risking to many points in my main account, I was climbing up quickly to a B ranking. But when I try to race there, there's always a bunch of drivers running wild, and it's extremely hard to stay out of trouble.

lower b lobbies remind me of being stuck in platinum in rocket league

I had the same happen to me with my Thrustmaster wheel. The pedals worked, the steering did not. Just once.

There’s not that many options for wheels on consoles. The usual starting point is a Logitech g29/g923. And then a Fanatec DD pro if you want to spend a bit more. You need to consider mounting it as well. Facebook market or ebay usually has plenty of g29 and playseat challenge bundles for less than £200. That’s kind of the GOAT starter setup.
In terms of adjusting to the using a wheel from a controller someone did a quite a detailed blog across about 6 months here. I’m sure a mod can link it.

Ive already went off the deep end and have decided that if I do decide to build a rig i might just get a trakracer rig
