1:39.7 Qualy lap. I feel I had more, made a few minor errors. I see how the perfect lap would be in the mid 38’s.
Same time as me and I’ve absolutely no idea how people are getting into the 38s! I’ve had some great races at sardegna this week, more laps would have been good. Let’s hope next week surprises too.

Lag compensation is slightly different from GT Sport, more smoothed out. I was behind a car on the straight and it kept going a bit ahead, then falling back again, oscillating over and over yet in a smooth way, riding a sine wave almost.

But there are also still cars that wobble all the time rotation wise, steady in distance, but the game doesn't quit know which way they're pointing.

I keep a bit of distance front back and sideways as lag is always present even if you don't see it due to smoothing. So far the races have been very clean today in the top split, but I've still been pushed off twice, by lag. Rubbing is not racing imo, it's asking for trouble with lag involved. Hence I'm not that fond of racing A+ since bumper to bumper, door to door seems to be the norm.

What's the point of driving bumper to bumper anyway, you're not going to be able to take advantage of a gap, you're just pushing the other car when they make the slightest mistake. Pressure until the car in front makes a mistake or gets pushed off by lag... Same when side by side which was the second incident I had today. On the middle straight, the GT-R left of me turned slightly right to make his corner entry wider and by doing so pushed my right side wheels into the grass before a left kink.

Keep some distance, the road is wide enough.

I had to stop playing until we get new tracks tomorrow. My SR is almost down to a B without even causing a crash or hitting anyone! This is stupid I'm really annoyed. You get hit, you get penalized 😖 and the lower you get placed the higher the chance of getting hit even more since you'll be placed in the scum lobbies!

Sport mode is always up and down.

Same race, this awesome driver fell back, he was faster than me and managed a clean pass so I could draft him to the straight.

Where we meet these clowns at the end

The one with the penalty pushed me off before, now I'm not so sure that was lag...

Didn’t have a lot of time for actual racing this week but I did do some hot-lapping and in one of the few races that I did, I feel I managed a pretty decent lap in race trim. Here’s both laps for reference. Watch in 4K if your device is capable.

1:40.7 in-race. Had a hard time adjusting to the weight of the car going through the chicane at the end of the lap. Could never get it quite right while carrying speed so I tended to take it pretty conservatively in race.

What are you driving?

Speaking of lag I had an interesting lag experience at Nordschleife earlier this week. I was in lead by 4-5 seconds but the driver behind me had a terrible connection. I was monitoring the gap and it would literally fluctuate by up to 3 seconds up and down around sharper bends. I am assuming he would teleport at full speed while he was actually braking and stand still at apexes while he was on throttle. It was hard to concentrate on the track as I was mesmerized by the gap ticker. I made a bad error and here came the guy smashing from one wall to the other. I couldn’t even follow. Fortunately for me he crashed head on in a wall and was still long enough even lag couldn’t teleport him and I got through. Amusing, but also terrifying.

I had a race where a laggy car was buzzing around me like a fly, leaving sparks and dust everywhere. Mega distraction, at least his car never hit me. Then another race where a 1 bar connection zoomed passed me each corner to reset behind me after the corner. Whatever netcode PD uses needs a rewrite.

I just started racing on PS5. First race I start on pole, however I'm still used to the DS4 controller. Travel is different in the Dualsense sticks and triggers so it takes half a lap to get dialed in again. The GT-R in second didn't have the patience for that of course. He got close enough to hit my inside right bumper at the sharp left towards Flugplatz. We tangle up and fall back to 4th and 5th. Have some patience FFS. GT-R has much better top speed, straight is coming right up, it's a 2 lap race, ugh. I make it back to 3rd but that's it. Second (WRX) is fast enough to block any attempt to pass.

Next race has an A+ GT-R on pole, and the same GT-R from the last race starting behind me. I'm dialed in now so stay ahead of 3rd, yet first simply runs off. I finish 14 seconds behind the A+ GT-R, 7 seconds in front of 3rd. My 7:11 lap is not up to the 7:04 lap from the A+ driver. Oh well, I had one chance lol.

Races on ps4 earlier were all very clean and very fast. There I was starting as low as 11th with my 7:08 qualifying time. Lot of A+ and other fast guys racing today, fun races. A 3rd place finish was the best I could do on ps4, so I guess I already have that beat with a time trial in 2nd on ps5

3rd race on ps5, this room has 6 A+ drivers. I start behind them in 7th. All GT-R except one Ferrari in 3rd. Another time trial race until 6 crashes in lap 2. I was slowly catching up to him but wasn't feeling it to attempt a pass after he already showed his true colors swerving on the straight in lap 1. I finish 6th, hmm ps5 racing is rather meh. Another difference is the sun reflecting in the shiny cars, blinding spots in front and in the mirror. PS4 is easier on the eyes!

4th race, same room... This time 4th or 5th crashes lap 2, I pass his ghosted wreck and finish 6th again. Another CRB after another time trial. I'm switching back to ps4. More fun people there, fewer GT-Rs.

Back on ps4 I'm starting 8th. Only 2 GT-Rs in front of me and another two further down the grid. Nicely mixed grid, fun! I get some pressure from 9th for the first half of lap 1 until he falls back. I'm closing in on 7th at the end of the lap but have to correct 2 turns before the straight and fall out of draft range doh. Lap 2 a car crashes in front and I get into 7th. I'm right behind 6th again and this time make it onto the straight just under 0.5 sec behind him, but it's one of the GT-Rs. My Lexus can't get an inch closer, no swerving, right in the slipstream, just enough to keep the same distance. I finish 7th with CRB. Fun race.

What is also weird, it feels faster on ps4? Times are the same, but I get a better sense of speed. No clue why. Maybe the unstable frame rate and slightly worse lighting/shadows make it more 'dramatic'? It feels smoother and slower on ps5, strange.

Another great race! I start 5th behind 2 GT-Rs. It's close all race. 3rd and 4th swap positions once then later swap back. I'm still 3rd in our 3-way race until 4th makes a slight mistake, goes a bit wide and I manage to move my Lexus into the gap contact free. He sees me, leaves room and I clear him next corner. Now I'm the monkey in the middle. I feel my toes biting the carpet while leaning through the corners (I'm standing while racing) 2nd bows out before the end, the car behind me messes up before the straight and I'm left drafting (the now) 2nd down the straight. I had a better exit onto the straight this time but still isn't enough to catch the GT-R. I finish right behind him in 3rd. This is sport mode at it's best, close, clean, no contact, fun!

Next, starting behind the same GT-R again, close race again. Then he decides to give me the position in lap 2 at Adenau. Probably wants to see how I do under pressure, as long as he keeps up the GT-R will win on the straight. (We're 3 and 4, 2nd is far ahead) I've done far too many races for pressure to get to me and let the Lexus rip, tearing up the 2nd half of the course. I get 1.5 sec ahead which might have got him a bit concerned as he started pushing hard. He brought it back down to 1.0 sec but over drove the mini karroussel and fell back to 4 sec behind. Another fun clean race, it's raining CRBs tonight.

It only keeps getting better, the last 2 races of the week, pure greatness. Everyone is dialed in and racing for fun. This is the Sunday night experience I always loved from GT Sport. I'm glad it's still alive in GT7 :)

The final tally (just over half the graph is all from the Nordschleife)

Much easier to gain DR while qualifying :dunce: But also great clean racing helps a lot!

yeah I have a hard time understanding the connections PD uses, I have 750mbps hardwired to my PS5 and still have 1 bar during a race. I don't notice myself lagging or any others lagging. Very annoying though knowing I have good connection and it shows 1 bar

On PS5 sometimes it shows 5 bars for me, sometimes 1, mostly 3 bars, last race 2 bars. Does it use a randomizer ???
I have also raced other '1 bar' connections that are perfectly stable and 4 bar connections that wobble all over the place

It does seem there is a server in Brazil as well. Usually I have 5 bars on ps4 and Brazilians all have 3 bars. Yet now and then all Brazilians have 5 bars and everyone else in the room has max 3 bars, including other South American countries.

Not that it says much, distance still mostly dictates the lag effects.

Just had a really good race C in A+ to A / SR S lobby in USA. There was no overtaking from my standpoint, started 2nd and finished 2nd, but was still intense racing. MrPlakaPlum won with 14:17 total time and I was under 4 seconds back. Top 6 were all within 15 seconds at the end with four different cars represented in the top 4. I don't know if any of top 6 changed hands during race, but there were no major mistakes at all between the top 3 judging by the gaps... just minor changes in gaps for entire two laps. Any mistake would have cost at least 3 places but none of us flinched. lol.

I have noticed this too, they did something to the SR recently or something like that because i had gotten to Sr A on my 2nd account and even though i never got penalty or hit anyone myself in Porsche cup last night, i was hit alot, ran off road and somehow my SR dropped to B after race
Definitely - I raced against a lot of the same people in Race B, and we all started the week as B/S. By yesterday we were all B/B, with an occasional move back up to B/A, and yet the races all appeared relatively clean and penalty free!

Look for the entries about Semi-manual DR tracker.
I snap a screenshot of my stats page after each race, then upload them in bulk (select all, drag 'n drop) to @Milouse's DR tracker.
I didn' t even test a bulk post of images. I recommend new users posting one at a time first, as error message system could be confused otherwise. And once it works, bulk post should be fine 👍

It has now been possible to use the run off area at Streets of Willow to gain stupid amounts of speed going into a lap without being penalized since GT6 launched almost 9 YEARS AGO!

I doubt I'm doing any Weekly races this time, I'm going to focus on the Porsche Esports event.

Had a quick race before work; Race B's version of this track isn't as bad as I remembered it for some reason but I do get the feeling there's going to be a fair bit of dirtiness going on - even a small mistake on your own on one of the technical corners before the long full throttle sections can cost you can cost you almost a second, so of course playing with friends will make that more of an issue.

Two out of three laps I was tapped and/or rammed on the long slow right hander - going to put more time into quali in the hopes I can get away from them by then!

Do cars behave differently in qualifying and races or is it just me? It seems to me that it handles much poorer when racing (not taking about getting rammed of the track by non-penalised jerks), so I tend to qualify quite well but drop down in races.

Yes, full fuel load, subtle tyre wear (and maybe tyre temperatures) are all factors in a race, whereas qualifying has you on a simulated qualifying load with perfect tyres, meaning the car is light and grippy.

Here are some observations i've noticed recently in the daily races and i just wondered if anyone has seen the same or has answers as to why they happen... it may also turn in to a bit of a moan...

Recently managed to get myself a PS5 so have been putting a bit more time and effort in to the online races as i found the new controllers allowed me to get better times... putting it down to the feedback in the triggers giving greater feel..

Mainly been doing Race B and the last few weeks the start has been on a straight, yet even with the same car in front and behind I noticed that when the gap ahead and behind appear at the start I might be 0.5 behind the car ahead, yet the car behind me is only 0.2 behind... yet we are all in the same car and are on a straight and in the tow of the car ahead.... is the car behind closer because they are getting a double tow.... just find it a bit odd, I mean sometimes I can be 1.5 sec behind the car ahead and still have the car behind up my chuff... even once got overtaken on dragon trail before the first corner...

Penalties i find are very inconsistent too... i've slightly out braked myself the odd time and nudged the car ahead, not enough to punt them off the track fully, just enough to make them go deep in to the corner, and I get a 3 sec pen... yet i can be punted off on purpose in to the gravel and the punter gets nothing.... Most recently on Sardegna people had spun off and re-joined right in front of me, so i've nowhere to go and end up hitting them, smacks me with a 5 sec pen... someone even spun across the track and just caught my rear quarter, i still got a 3 sec penalty.... all seems very odd...

I'm also trying to figure out how the matching works... at the end of last week i was a high B DR yet was getting matched at times with A and A+ drivers, who were a good 1.5-2 sec faster, going off the fastest laps.. so i'm starting near the back and have no chance of getting in the top half (which i think is where you need to get to gain DR points....???)

Finally managed to get in to DR A and expected the racing to be a bit better and cleaner, but it seemed to be a lot worse... seems if you defend for more than a few corners you will eventually just get punted off, and if you dare get you car along side at all you will find yourself being pushed off in to the gravel, or a wall.... even on the straights....

I'm hoping that was just a few bad races and that in the general things will be a better as B could be like bumpers cars at the best of times...

To piggyback on what Neb said:

-In quali, even though it shows your fuel tank is full, it's not. What teh fuel load is? No idea. I just guess 1/8th a tank but it's a moot point anyway. So in race trim, the car weighs more.
-When you start the race, you have cold tires
-When you start the race, odds are you'll be within slip range* of the car in front so you'll likely be carrying more speed into the turns than qualifying.
-*The flip side of this is you'll also be in the dirty air going through turns.

Probably why there is so much chaos at T1 at most tracks.

Race C this week doesn't interest me at all. A Supra-draft-fest with no strat for 12 laps. Big meh.

Don't know what to make of race B yet. Hopefully it's not a GTR dominated track, but probably is.

race a - kind of thing that only makes sense if its ranked... also its a car we had early in Nations Cup, so the idea of 'master the random car for the sake of it' doesn't apply personally. while the existing PP system has been made completely null, would it have killed them to give the users a choice of cars at least???

race b - looks like 97/100 on page 1 are GTRs, which is fine... but it wrinkles my brain that they continue to choose Racing Hards for sprint races. also... maybe it was my PS5... but i experienced a lot of resolution drops on my qualifying laps. the texture dropped off on one of turns, every time.

i don't care if i am fast or putting in consistent times if i know that any amount of disruption is going to cause me to slam into another car.... i don't think i'd have that problem on medium or softs. i've been one-ish win away from A+ going on four weeks now, mostly because these races are 'kill or be killed' now, and part of why i liked GTS was that it wasn't an entirely antagonistic online experience.

race c is supras at monza. that seems like a long 12 laps.

i think this is the week i accept that they just don't really care that much about this mode.

Did a couple race C's earlier, by lap 6 of the 2nd one I was mentally asleep and had completely checked out - very boring combo imo, 12 laps on a track with like 5 corners, plus it being an essential one make with no strategy.... yeah it's a toughie to keep yourself going with.

Gonna be one for the alt, trying to claw my way up the field in different cars might make it a little more entertaining.

Time to learn St. Crocs, I suppose.

Just did a Race C on PS5. Pretty boring, ended up with only 9 cars on the track near the end. For it to be fun, I feel like you'd need triple that, or a mix of groups. No strategy needed either at all, just go around the track 12 times.

@Nebuc72 the GT LM Race Spec I was using seemed to me to be keeping up on the straights with the Supra.

Yes this is definitely an alt race week, as i wont be putting my little beetle thru that race c supra fest on my main, race b is a maybe only because i want to learn St. Croix.. But i thought they would be doing some bop adjustments this week? I guess not
