LOL I miss him! In saying that, GTS was VERY different from GT7, there's just no way to compete with A rated drivers even using TC1, no way, it's so, so intrusive. In group 3 I only use the Supra, Z4, McLaren and 911 because I cannot drive the rest without TC and the moment i turn it on I get absolutely SLAUGHTERED.
That's true. In GT Sport, I used TCS1 almost all the time. In GT7, TCS 1 will retard engine output, but in GTS, it didn't. :grumpy:

Race A is insane but fun. Did two of them today and was fortunate enough to not get taken out in either one despite starting from the bottom half (quali is a 46.0 at the moment). Finished them in P2 & got a win! Gotta be at the right place at the right time while doing the right thing with a lot of white knuckling...

Have you tried turning it on only as required? I've done this before.

The 787B Daily on Daytona Road Course I remember specifically. After 9-10 laps the tires were getting worn so the last hard left before the oval section I would flip TC onto 1 and then turn it back off as soon as I was going around the oval part.

I remember doing this on the M6 as well in one of the Dailies, maybe at Watkins? I don't actually recall, but there was a turn I was having a hard time with so I'd flip TC onto 1 and turn it back off once I was going straight.

It kinda sucks because I like having the radar on all the time, but TC is three clicks up or down from radar so it's really easy to do without even having to look at it. Plus, much better to have that little bit of confidence and NOT lose the car.

LOL not in GT7 because ironically, there are cars I can drive without TC whereas in GTS I needed TC. And TBH, the SUpra is right up my alley, it downshifts and gets a TOUCH loose RIGHT where i need it to be for the way i drive so it kinda works for me.

In GTS, qualifying laps i'd yeah, toggle TC on and off depending on the corner. It worked too. But in GT7, honestly it'd be too much faffing about because it wants to come on any time you turn the dang wheel.

Mini rant ahead:

After grinding race A for a few days, it's astonishing how many people have zero clue as to how to drive Daytona correctly. Between people trying to pass below the yellow line and not knowing how to control the car in the draft, it's mind blowing to me just how bad some people are. The biggest issue is people not knowing how to control runs. It's like they don't know you can run part throttle in the draft while still keeping up with the leaders. A slight lift before you give someone a bump draft works wonders.

Also, RADAR EXISTS FOR A REASON. USE IT!

Yeah, that's all true.
I was on the track with you yesterday. Good racing. 👍
I'll be on again, in a little bit. Hope to see you out there. I'll mostly be starting at the back as TPC_Vigilante.
It is nice when you can work with someone who is able to hold a steady line through the turns.

Good race A today. 3 of us were able to bump draft our way to the podium spots. At one point I was the leader, then P8, then finished P2. I don't know that the other 2 understood bump drafting at all as I was the giver, but not the receiver, but they stopped swerving when I flashed my light and got on their tailpipes. Just calm down, this isn't going to hurt.

@CCM284 how much are you lifting before the bump? So far my maneuvers have not caused anyone car instability, maybe some racing stripes...

Had some great racing mid-pack in race B in spite of starting outside the top 10. Racecraft of others is..entertaining. My confidence is building as I get to race whomever in the top 5 got punted back and I am holding my own. I am racing everything but the meta, and learning how to stay with the Alfas - right until the hard right before the bridge - I lose them there every time unless I am in the Soobie. I am more competitive in the MRs as well, in spite of being unable to drive them when I started. My best race so far was in the Mustang because I can recover from the nuisance drivers easier in the FR cars. My favorite races have become those where I and another competitive racer seem to swat at the nuisance driver for a while, then race, then swat again, then race; both of us being very Tae Kwon Do with our enemies' momentum.

Jumped on the main account in the GTR and set a time of 3:19.5 which, to my surprise, was 202 ranked.
Pfft. You can't break the top 200? Loser. (You know I'm joking - I'm too much in awe to process this, actually.)
That's more my point. I want to get faster not to be some uber driver, just to get out of the bumper car tier of racers.
In my admittedly limited experience, getting in a lobby with all SR S drivers is the way to get the cleanest races. Setting a better QT to get above the idiots most likely won't help, unless you get up to A lobbies, and even then, it's a crap shoot (you A drivers can correct me if I'm wrong).

And as for feeling so far off the top Q times, this race has been really strange that way. I'm in the :22's, which has given me some good starting positions and decent races, and I'm ranked 1889, which is pretty good for a middling B driver. But it's about 6 1/2 seconds off first place. So you can't always judge your QT by how many seconds behind the top you are.

Modify the G29. I used an aftermarket spring and drilled some holes in the rubber block. It makes a huge difference.

As far as the Daily race issues - I hear ya. I’ve done 1 B race and 2 C races this week. I’m done. Even in all B/S lobbies it’s impossible to have a clean race. I made little effort to set a good qualy time in C so I started in the back. I made it up to 8th in the first race and proceeded to get murdered in the chicane. Back to the back of the pack. Just terrible.

Got punted in the esses during my second race. Almost rage quit, but decided to keep cool and see what I could do. Tire/pit strategy worked in my favor compared to the others in the backmarker zone. Finished 11th. Decent result, but still frustrating to say the least.
@GaugeForever ...when I used a G29 I modified it with a TrueBrake piece for the brake pedal. It was about $50 and it offered a much better more natural control for trail braking than the OE pot. It's not quite a load cell, but it's much better than the feel of the Logitech standard pedal. And it's an easy modification that you can reverse if need be, for any reason. If you don't want to spend a ton of $$$ on a new pedal set, it's a really nice modification to make.

I've since gone to a Fanatec DD Pro with the Load Cell pedal, and the pedals are worlds beyond the G29, but $1000 for a wheel/pedal set is a significant investment. And I'd love to try the Logitech DD model that just came out, because there are some things about that which I like better than the DD Pro... there are pros/cons to them both, no clear winner AFAICT.

I've done everything you say other than these two. I do play in cockpit. I'm not sure it hurts me but I can try to switch. I've basically all but compensated for being in cockpit view. I still hit apexes and such. However, if I don't try something else I'll never know. I do play TC 3 so perhaps there is something there. I don't have any other assists on as you mention in that last quoted point.

One thing I'm not doing is manual transmission. You did mention that. in race B there is that one corner where you slow to almost a stop and it's more than 90 degrees. I think auto transmission hurts me a lot there because I can't seem to get it to downshift the one extra gear I need to be in a higher RPM and get better drive. Probably the TC thing in combination with that hurts me here.

I'll try these thing, but yea if I don't see progress I might give up. I can see the fun. I know this can be fun. It's just not fun in DR B or lower due to the other racers. On occasion I get some clean races when I'm in the top 5 and it's like this teaser letting me know, hey, if you were just a little faster, this could be every race.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I may try to do something with my g29 brake as well. It's just not granular enough to brake consistently.

Will do. I did look at his guide for the track and that's what got me where I am but I'm still 3 seconds off him so yea maybe I'll watch his more instructional videos.
On my new account where I'm learning how to use my wheel I'm running TCR 0, ABS Weak, no steering, braking, whatever assists. I'm also using a 4wd car (WRX) as I'm very comfortable with that car.

I think the best thing you can do is turn TCR completely off and learn to drive that way. You'll launch better out of corners for sure, and the WRX (most GR.4 cars really) don't have enough power even on Race Hards to break them free and spin you. If I'm correct and you're playing on a wheel with paddle shifters please swap to manual transmission and learn that. It is making a world of difference to me.

I started GT7 on controller, chase cam, no assists, automatic transmission, and made it all the way to DR B/SR S and could have pushed to DR A but decided to get a wheel instead.

Now on my wheel account I'm learning the tool and learning how to use it most effectively, and that's really what it is, a tool.

Shifting is starting to become second nature to me, you can get there I promise. Another thing that really helped me was to go into the Wheel Calibration screen and set my "Peak Brake Pressure" to be like 80% of full travel/pressure. That way the brakes start biting a bit quicker than if I was using 100% travel. I know that's hurting my times in terms of consistent trail breaking and whatnot but till I learn hands/feet/eyes better that's what I'm doing.

Maybe that's something you can look into?

Either way Wheel is a completely different beast than controller and you really do want to be using no assists and using manual transmission. Swapping from auto to manual can pick up literal seconds in lap time once you get used to it because you get access to better engine breaking AND more accurate gear selection exiting corners.

GL my dude, you got this!

I do that at RBR for T3. Quick flip to TCR, set to 1, exit corner, flip back to 0, go back to radar

@GaugeForever

A lot of people here have given you good advice. I'll try to contribute..... Use the whole track entering and exiting corners. I have no idea what your driving style is like, but I did a lot of Race B's on my alt from the back in mostly A/B lobbies last night. I was surprised how many people I watched enter corners from the middle of the track instead of entering wide and exiting wide. Taking proper lines saves huge chunks of time, especially on a wide track like St. Croix. Also I find Race B hella fun.

How much quicker did it make you out of curiosity?
I’m not entirely sure because I got dramatically slower first! It’s takes some time to get it down, but it inspired me to learn how to trail brake and how to control my throttle, so the overall improvement was definite. I’d say I’ve gained seconds per lap on any given track, but I’d have to go back and run one of the Sardegna races again to really know.

I did the Tru Brake mod too. It's so much better than stock. It feels and seems to operate way more like a real brake pedal. Muscle memory seems to work better with pressure rather than distance.

If anyone knows Speedy Mcs'leigh, please point him here. We got into an altercation in Race A, and after I reviewed the replay, I realized I overreacted to accidental contact. I wanted to apologize, but a search for that GT username came up empty.

Anyway, the next race I consciously tried to be more aware, give space and stay calm. I got murdered. My experience has been if the race includes 3 or more drivers I have some history with, I'll probably survive. If not, I get killed.

I saw you make that apology. Kudos 👍

My last 5 races have been a disaster. I let someone get under my skin, and that's the worst thing I can do to myself. I had pole position, and this other guy kept coming from P3 to beat me. As it kept happening, I started driving poorer and poorer 'cause I was "hearing footsteps". We made incidental contact on one corner (in which he overtook me on the inside) and I kind of lost it. I ruined my last 2 races by just being ticked off and making really bad decisions.

The worst part is that even if I didn't go pole-to-pole, I'd definitely make podium, and my DR was starting to inch closer and closer to A. Way to handle the pressure, huh? Sheesh. Well, I'm not called "Grumpy" for no reason.

Make a pre-race threat. As soon as you get close, he will get anxious, and wreck himself.
It works pretty often. 👍

pro tip: don't do that.
second pro tip: go faster :D

In all seriousness though I've been there and it sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. I get way more stressed out when I'm Pole than literally any other position on the grid. That being said one thing I've found helps to clear my mind is if it looks like they've got a faster race pace than I do I just pull over and follow. I've found I can follow faster than I can lead and often times that lets me slip up the inside somewhere to take the win back.

If that doesn't work I pop a few edibles and then go do the music rally or Daily A where I know I won't have an impact :D
Your mileage may vary

I was bumped up to C, then I got a win at Daytona tonight. I started P3 and had 4 laps of white-knuckle heroics finding myself in P1 with a gap I held to the end. P2 was always within slipstream, but I just kept breaking it by taking slightly different lines and exits. Outside of the usual silliness, it was far better racing than race B...for me.

However, there was one B race I made up 4 spots (cleanly) at the penultimate corner - in the NSX!

Sorry Chad.

Is there no way to boot or report someone in online races? Being in Australia means theres less variance of users and i seem to constantly find myself in races with a guy who is B rating but a D sportmanship rating, he literally just pulls along side people and rams them off.. No idea how he is such a high DR whilst having such a low sportsmanship rating but it is what it is.

Reporting someone won't help. If the problem persists, eliminate it.

Turned off TC and managed a 3:22:3 which is about 1.7 seconds a lap faster than my previous qualifying time. Not only that, my race pace is much better. I am easily in the top 5 pretty much every race now. Got two podiums tonight as well, a 2nd place and a 3rd place. Still wish I could hit 3:20 even, I'll keep trying. Roughly middle B atm and still creeping up every race.

I even had a race with @BruceAlmighty :) They got to witness the speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

I had that situation today. Saw @GOTMAXPOWER closing in and tried to cover the inside on spoon in race C. Watched as he outbroke me on the outside, make the apex and disappear into the distance. It's hard not to feel the pressure and quite humbling to race people that fast. SR B is where I belong.

That's great news. I was on TCS on a varied scale pretty much up until GT7 came out and decided to keep going without it since I had been running in a league where it was banned.

Keep practicing and pace will improve. The confidence will come with that as well. I live on the A and A+ border most of the time now and I never thought I would get out of B. Also helps to recognize there are always going to be some combos that just dont suit you and don't stress too much about them. Run them if you want to practkce and get better, but its all in fun. I have friends of similar speed, but we vary wildly on different combos. I'm a full 1.5 seconds faster on this Daily B than 1 of them, but he was a second faster at suzuka.

And to show how far we come, I got lapped in my first ever daily A back in GTS

Congrats on the new QT with no TC.

After reading all the posts today to you about turning off TC , I went and did the same thing! I also turned off Active Stability and counter steering. It took me most of the day to get the hang off it all and I lost a LOT
of my B rating to the point I almost went to C. My first 4 or 5 races I was starting 10th or less and was getting taken out by the crappy players. As I got more experience without TC I beat mt QT by 2 sec and was getting P7 or better starts. Even got my first podium in almost 2 months.

I want to thank everyone for the support you gave Gauge and by doing so helped others.
Now no TC with Gr3 is a whole different ball game :D
