Got put into an A/A+ rated lobby today, I was one of three B drivers. I ended up in Super GT position (sixth) after starting 9th. Got clean race as well. Was super respectful and gave people a wide birth because they were more skilled drivers and I would rather lose a position than wreck someone higher than me. Merely took advantage of 2 different pairs of drivers fighting it out and passed at opportune moments. I have to say, that felt good.

I still can't seem to improve my QT time. I KNOW it's there. I've gotten close and I can regularly put down 3:22 laps now. I've done at least a second below that in different sectors, I just need to put it together. I believe whoever said 3:21 is a wall. Even if I put my best sectors together I'm at 3:21 maybe high 3:20. May give it another go tomorrow. The racing at the front of the grid has been incredible. Not wins, just podiums, but I'm fighting against people rated much better than me :)

Oh, and I did switch to manual transmission today. Can match QT with it. Still trying to figure it out. Boy though, the second you get down into mid pack in B lobbies, you are done for. It is bumper cars all over the place. Zero penalties too. One race I was deliberately rammed into a wall because I braked at the yield marker (the proper brake marker) at the chicane and the other guy braked super early, so I took the chicane. Ended up ramming me off into the wall at 90 degrees. Felt good the very next race to finish second and absolutely cream him. He felt the need to send me nasty DMs heh. Nothing a block can't sort.

Just on a high note right now haha. Feels good man. Thanks to all you on the forum who helped me.

This keeps happening to me too. I agree - if I could just put them together, I could drop a second.

I'm still shocked to hear you used auto transmission, and have such good times. When you get the hang of the manual transmission, you'll be amazed at how well your times improve. Fingers crossed, anyway!

The people who chat "Let's have a clean race" are usually the worst - they mean nobody should hit THEM, but they can hit anyone they want.

Awesome job!

Too bad (for me) Daytona is not being scored this week. I picked up a couple more wins and podiums. P3 seems to be the sweet spot to start for me, and most of the top drivers have figured out the bump draft. I like the strategy, working with your competitors for a chance to win (or wall slide a nuisance driver in the pack). There was a top 3 qualifier who kept declaring the inside of T1...by taking the apron and pushing whomever wide. He/she did it every race, and he/she got walled in the exit of T3 by the pack in every race. A hard head gets ya a soft behind.

I tried to be competitive in race Bs, but the sportsmanship was not in my favor. I would gain 3 or 4 spots in the first lap just to wind up backwards on/off the circuit in lap 2. I will say this - I only made one fatal mistake in all my races today - the rest were due to bad sportsmanship. But I am avoiding more attacks every race.

I hit another good lap this week at the weirdest St. Croix layout. After getting used to it, I’m starting to like it. Here’s a 3:17.49 in the Nissan GTR. It was good enough for the #29 time earlier today. We’ll see how it holds up. Global P1 is still nearly 1.5s ahead! I guess on a long track the spread will be larger. I messed up on the final corner and had to lift, probably lost a tenth or two, but other than that it was a nearly optimal lap for me.

Anyone had ghosting problems on Suzuka?
Ran a few more Suzuka races tonight and I had a issue with a car ahead rejoining and coming straight Infront of me but the car didn't ghost? What made it more strange I picked up damage but the car I hit didn't get any damage and then glitched back on to the track. It was as if for other driver I never hit them. Make me think it was netcode but had 2/3 of these issues today.

Other than that had another fun run of races. Was not impressed with an DR-A driver nudging me of in the S's on the opening lap. I was driving to the speed of the cars ahead, yet this DR-A driver behind clearly wanted to get pass. They raged quit on lap 2 when someone else took them out on the same corner they took me out on. Turns out they had a SR-B rating so doesn't surprise me they knocked me off the track

I was impressed on how SMOOTH that lap was. Aweome!!

Race A is actually quite the challenge, it's not your typical oval battle given the car and the unpredictable nature of how others can handle it. It's very easy to get loose and difficult in traffic to know if the guy beside is going to hold a line through the turns or swing it into you at any given moment.

As for only 12 cars, be nice to get 20 but 12 is already double what you'd get in your average Heat 5 lobby so

A festive favourite of mine from GT Sport when the RCZ was at the peak of it's BoP powers. Nice to see it ported over.

I’m in a bit of a quandary: I can’t seem to get any faster at Suzuka (stuck at 1:58.4) so I was starting P14 in A/A+ lobbies and finishing at or near last. No problem since I wasn’t losing to many DR points and I was learning from the best. But now I’m dwindling down to very low A and am in A and B missed lobbies, but still starting and finishing near last. I’m in a downward spiral and will soon be a B if I keep at this pace.

The next couple of weeks look more promising for me so do I keep racing, knowing that I’ll be hurting myself this week and leading into next, or do I take a break and just admit that this is not the circuit for me and save my A rating for better races next week(s)?

It was quite a grind... 🥳🍻

At first I hadn't been too keen on this track, driving for 3+ minutes a lap through a rather boring scenery. But it has grown on me a lot. So many unique corner combinations, so much to learn.

It has become one of my top3 favourite combos so far:

Just race, man, if you're enjoying it. whatever level you're at is always temporary. If you drop to B you'll be in with the chance of scoring some wins on your way back up next week.

While I understand it, it's so counter productive to not play the game just to protect a score. you may as well quit now then and uninstall if the level is the goal

What are you racing with? I'm at 1:58.4 as well but know I have more time in turn 1 and the right hander after the esses as well as the left hander after the sweep.

I gained some time not braking at all through the esses and just guiding the car with the throttle. Got me down to 32.9 there.

Yep, seems familiar. The A - B elevator. Right now I'm also stuck in it at low A and don't dare to push any buttons...😬😆

I think I'll print that on a poster and hang it over my bed, so I'll be reminded of that every single day.😆

On one hand, I can't even fathom doing it so quickly (I'm at :21). On the other hand, you make it look so smooth that of course, anyone could do it! Simply awesome lap.

I'm always amazed at how much less braking you top guys do than I do. I understand the concepts (I think), but I can't even come close to implementing them like you do. I'm not complaining - I enjoy the level I'm racing at, and in the end that's all that matters. But still, when I watch you showing that level of expertise, I'm in awe. Simply in awe.

Great lap, and thanks for sharing it!

Changing subject only slightly, did anyone else see this video?

He runs the race without having run the track even once. He judges everything based on the people in front of him, and glancing at the map. It's really cool.

Another approach would be to test cars and race the practice lobbies for next week’s races especially if certain races seem to fit. You can get lots of time in racing on the track rather than just doing TT.

Limit time on the C race for now unless you find some additional QT speed or at least better pace over multiple laps. I always wait to jump back into any session until I’m back on my top pace and no more than .5 sec over my QT.

If you plan to race manu or nation series just sign up before chancing the drop from A.

Its corner entry. You and I can hit apexes and get on throttle at same point as top 100 guys but they trail brake and carry way more entry speed

Well done mate, solid result with that lap 😎 Merry Xmas/ holidays to all here 🎄🎅 Except anyone involved in creating the Sport Mode penalty logic. I hope you get coal 🤣🪨

F'n finally got a win in this crapshoot of a race. Now I can log off and enjoy the festivities.

Have a great christmas guys

You managed more than I did! I started on pole in 80% of the races I did, but couldn't convert one of them to a win - got pit manoeuvred out of about 50% of the races, usually on the last turn of the last lap!

Couldn't believe the number of people that seemed to able to run the wrong side of the yellow lines without penalty, whereas I seemed to get one for the slightest slip over them....

Merry Christmas all 🎄

Finally someone who speaks up about the unexplainable short length of the A/B daily races, the unexplainable useless wait at the end of the daily races, the unexplainable 20 minutes wait between a same daily race and the unexplainable lack of daily races in general, since we're stuck with only 3.
For any game I want to try matchmaking, where all players start together (let it be MW2, Battlefront 2, any football game, Forza Motorsport etc etc etc...) there is always a match/race available. It's a continuous flow. And if there's a couple of minutes to wait, I'll wait in a lobby. I don't have to look at a screen with nothing but a timer of 15-20 frigging minutes.

PD are figuratively running their servers with the handbrake on. Too much traffic to sustain? Are they amateurs? I don't think they are. Don't they have resources? We're talking about PD and Sony here, come on...

That was sweet. You nailed everything but two particular spots really stuck out. The turn on the bridge was very good but you absolutely killed the hairpin just prior to that turn. That was sweet and smooth and fast.

I also noticed how you handled the awkward turn/kink into the long straight (the turn where the sand can be in play on the left). You were off the throttle way, way sooner than I am and back on it way quicker (right on the right curb), yet you carried lots of speed. I'll work on it but I clearly need to be off throttle much sooner there in order to get that part right. There is whole second of time available from that curb to the hairpin... so it is critical. And yeah, I know slow in fast out but that far back seems so counterintuitive I would never have even considered it.

I thought I was losing lots of time on the last two turns of the track, but I am not when looking at your speeds.

I can't get lower than mid 3.22, which is a bigger % gap than normal for me so I love the challenge of trying to find out where I can gain time.

Thanks for posting!!

PS. A question, I notice your sector times were not flashing. Do you have that turned off? I find that very helpful in confirming/disconfirming the pace I think I have. Does it distract you?

Yep, I'd be interested in a breakdown of my time spent in Sport racing vs sitting waiting for the clock to tick down.

Results would be rather embarrassing.

The alternative is being in even worse lobbies than we are now. Convince more people to play sport mode regularly and it'll get better. This community and PD itself doesn't seem to care much to change sport mode to appeal to a broader base, so the end result is you just deal with it.

It really baffles me that this game doesn't have a "quick race" feature that just queues people up and pops them into a random race. I can't think of a single other game, let alone racing game that limits the only official matchmaking behind a competitive guise.

There should just be a button on the world map, I press it, I get put in a queue, and when it hits 16 people (or after a certain amount of time passes/slots open in an existing lobby) it throws you into a random race combination. Keep the lobby consistent too, and have it randomise after every race so you can keep racing with the same people if you desire.

I'm fine with Sport having timers for races but for that to be the only way to race on official servers is honestly stupid. I even think introducing this will encourage more people to try out Sport Mode because more people being exposed to online races will only give more people to itch to do more of them.

I even think GT6 had this? I don't know why they stopped.

Thanks to the good advice from @Mercia , I finally started doing actual races on my main account again.

Of course, it went EXACTLY as expected. Got into a lobby with A/S, B/S and some A/B players, one of which killed me. Having started P4, I ended up standing on the bridge with massive damage and facing backwards.🤪 P 13 in the end. Well, at least the first half lap was good racing...😆

Any tips how to avoid getting pushed-to-pass in the fast left-hand kink? I saw it coming, he (one of the SR B drivers) divebombed into my left side from 3 car lengths behind, without even braking (I checked the replay), but I had no idea what to do against it.

But... I've changed my attitude. Previously I would have been pissed for hours. Now only for five minutes. And I'll race on.

Err... of course I memorized who that was, and I will kill him without hesitation the next time we meet in a race...☠️🤣

I was struggling at this track until I saw the top guys using the gears to get the car turned. Once I was using lower gears into some corners I knocked off loads of time. Ran a 1.57.3 in TT at the start of the week.
T2 I briefly drop down to 2nd gear then back up to 3rd.
Degner 2 again brief drop to 2nd then back up to 3rd
Hairpin 1st gear then 2nd
Spoon 1 3rd gear, but Spoon 2 briefly drop to 2nd and then back up 3rd
Chicane hard braking and quick downshifting to 1st then back to 2nd.

Have to say I feel very tempted to deleted my 2nd account.
If I race on main account Im too conservative and this ends up with me been involved in crashes or spins. Where as when I’m on my 2nd account, as I have the “I don’t care“ attitude I’m more aggressive (still clean fair racing) and I end up getting better results. As @Mercia says “not caring about DR and having fun“ is the name of the game here.
Biggest thing I’ve changed about my way of racing is if I get punted, push-to-pass or if I spin myself is to just forget about it move on and and keep going. Did a few races today and i binned it myself in the S curves on lap 1 from P2, now P16, carried on and managed to get a P7 (although 4 people did quit)

Signing out now for the next few days!
Have a Merry Christmas, Felix Navidad, Joyeux Noël, Frohe Weihnachten, Buon Natale, Prettige Kerstdagen, Feliz Natal, عيد الميلاد ميلاد سعيد, 聖誕快樂, メリー クリスマス, happy holidays or just have a great few days doing whatever! 🎄

100% agreed.

But... two more races like the last one on my main account, and both my accounts will be rated exactly the same (approaching DR A on my second).

Oh my... what will I do then?😬🤣
