I thought I read that the G29 firmware update that you can do doesn't change anything if you are on a PS4 or PS5.

two comments from a forum on here from 4 years ago...https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/logitech-g29-update.374918/

I was set to the update until I read these notes...

G2x wheels are "dummy" peripheral devices, no brains=no actual controlling firmware inside, only "api control box". All brain is run on host device in form of "firmware driver", on PC you could update your ruining "firmware" as updating your driver. On consoles you can't do that, sony can update OS part driver "firmware" if they will, and software developers can use either way to control wheel, using OS api to wheel or direct commands to wheel, when doing direct commands to wheel it means at their software will act as firmware to wheel, which they can improve/update if they want inside their software.
G2x series physical "firmware" contains only FFB canned effects and FFB direct control api to be used from host=software on console/pc.

The G29 cannot be updated. It's simply plug and play on PS4. The Logitech controlling firmware on PC can be updated though (an application) but nothing on the wheel itself to update.
Hope that clears some stuff out.

You're talking about drivers not firmware. Firmware is what enables the wheel to calibrate when you plug it in.

First let me say that I ran my second Race B this morning, and I think it's going to be more fun that I originally thought, assuming I don't get targeted again by He Who Must Not Be Named.

Speaking of names, apparently it's OK to post images with names in them, according to:
It's perfectly fine to post a photo with the bad guys name on it or a video of him being an offender.
You just can't post his name as text so it's searchable
And since a couple of people wanted to know his name:
Anyway, if you repost your images from above without the offender’s name blurred out, that should be acceptable and you’d be doing some of us a huge favor as well! As long as you can’t find the name doing a Google search, as @RacingGrandpa says above.
Right, and I think it's a good idea to let our friends here know who to watch out for.
That's why when I post clips here, I always make sure race info and driver names are visible.
Here's the un-censored images:

Hopefully I'll never have to deal with him again. But if I do, I'm sure I'll come here to vent and get sympathy for my wounded emotions, which I appreciate more than you guys know.

Ok I tried and I quit. What’s the point when rammers get zero penalty. I’m going to go play iracing or some other multiplayer game with actual consequences for racers who destroy multiple peoples races. I’m in mixed lobbies with A+/A/B drivers. So it’s not a DR thing. This isn’t even fun tbh so I’m done. I like racing but it’s like 1/4 races or less are actually clean. Most of the time someone rams on the dirt on the inside or something to gain like 5 places on the first lap ruining multiple peoples races. Have fun with this joke of a “competitive” game.

Like literally rams multiple people with several getting pushed off track into the barrier and ZERO penalty. Unreal.

EDIT: You vets want to know why there isn't anyone playing online, well here it is. I am an example of someone who gave an honest attempt. I took advice and got faster and got into better lobbies. It would be different if they were punished in some way, but they are rewarded. Start in 12th and in 6th with no penalties for ramming your way to get there. Without penalties this is never going to be for me. I thank all of you for helping me, but it's just too frustrating for me.

I am not saying it's you, because I really don't think it is. But I bet that both you and the one that rams are driving the exact same lines as in Free Practice.
We used to have a member here, he is banned now, but I felt like you guys do and he told me that if I drove so I made it my personal responsibility not to have contact, and to avoid others making contact with me I would feel much better about my racing.
I thought he was nuts but it turned out he was right.
By actively avoiding contact at all cost, from both front, rear and sides the game became fun again.
I didn't get as many DR points as I would have gotten by just driving as fast as I could but I had 99 SR points all the time and I had fun again.

Thank's Groundfish, you where right about that

I leave space on the outside and inside of every corner if people are even remotely close. It's not me. I don't mind being passed. In fact, in Race B this week, I get passed most races because I would rather be passed than have an incident. I catch up positions when they wreck out most of the time. Like I said though, when they aren't even remotely close and I'm already in the corner on the apex and they just barge though.

took every single piece of advice on these forums and gave massive gaps away to people. It's not for me. There are other games that have actual consequences for people like this. I'm going to choose to invest my time there. I do appreciate all the help but this is a sinking ship IMO. inb4 30-40 min queues.

Blame the victims though, I'm sure that will get more people playing online.
I don't think that's what people are saying - I think they're just trying to help you. With that said, I totally understand what you're saying, and where you're coming from.

Personally, I figure if I get a fast enough QT to put myself in the top 3 or 4 positions, I'll stand a better chance of avoiding most of the losers. If I make a mistake from one of those positions, well, it's like tightwalking over a pit of alligators without a net. But at least that's my fault for allowing them to catch up.

As an aside, the Mustang is a great car for this race. I'm making a lot of mistakes in my Q laps right now (need a break), but I'm still consistently getting times under :45 even with those mistakes. I honestly think it won't be long before I have a major breakthrough, time-wise.

This is going to sound snarky, but I actually mean it seriously: When you find a game you like that does have consequences, let me know and I'll give it a shot.

But only on the PS - no way am I going to get into PC gaming - I spent most of my life upgrading computers to keep fast and stay current. I'm done with that.

Exactly my personal experience. In my first weeks of online racing, about half a year ago, I had quite a lot of incidents because I always tried to be the fastest on the track, thus attempting to drive as quick and -inadvertently- in the same style, or on the same line as in practice/qualifying. That often didn't work out. I got frustrated, too (you can read about it here in that very forum, but please, don't scroll back to do it😬), but the tips of the great forum guys here got me going again. And of course, always trying to avoid other drivers might feel a bit strange and maybe even humiliating at times, especially when worse drivers gain positions on you. But it's worth the learning experience. Racing will become better.

Of course the penalty system still sucks, doesn't it, PD, DOESN'T IT???🤬😆

I had an incident today that has totally ruined Race B for me this week, unless I decide to use my second account. I've never wished I could report someone before now, but this guy has me wondering if I even want to be seen on my main account again. I may try to put together a video showing exactly what happened, but for now I'll just explain it.

I entered my first (and only) Race B this week, and some driver I've never heard of before (his name is unusual enough that I would have remembered) directed this chat message at me (I've blurred out his name):
View attachment 1218682

I thought that was odd, but whatever. Then as the race was about to get under way, he said this, which I thought was pretty funny, actually:
View attachment 1218683

This was my first race of the day, and I haven't had any serious incidents with anyone recently.

He hadn't qualified, so he was last, and I was 3rd, so I didn't worry too much about it. But coming up to the final turn in lap 7 he had caught up, and he hit me twice, trying to spin me out. The funny thing is, his first hit knocked me off line, but his second hit straightened me back up and actually helped me get around the last turn.

As I was entering the first hairpin on lap 8, something flashed by me and hit the wall. When I looked at the replay, it was the same guy trying to dive-bomb me. Fortunately for me, there was someone next to me and he deflected the guy enough that I pretty-puch avoided being hit. This is from his POV in the replay:
View attachment 1218685

I have no idea what this guy has against me, and why he's targeting me. I really, really, really don't want to race with him again. It's kind of messing with my stomach, actually. For tonight I'm just gonna call it quits. Tomorrow, if I decide to race, it will probably be under my second account.

People like this shouldn't be allowed to ruin the game for other people. He should be suspended, but I guess that doesn't happen in this game. Thanks a lot, *******, for ruining things for me. I hope Santa left you a bunch of coal in your stocking.
Welcome to my world

I was getting better and better every lap. I think I just passed you before my last race. I think the trick for good times is the last corner. I still don't know how to do it just right but I think there is almost a second a lap in that last corner. I wish you luck. Starting higher up only made it worse for me. Would actually rather start in the back so I don't get rammed on the first lap. Once it stretches out it's not so bad because you're faster than all the toxic players.

As for games I'm going to try ACC and iRacing. I've done iRacing before and I know they are VERY serious about intentional rams. I really like the balance of sim/game GT7 has, but without a penalty system I just can't. It seriously might as well be removed from the game IMO. It virtually doesn't exist now. You'll get a penalty for grazing a wall (also slowing you down) but someone can flat out ram you from light years back to make a corner and zilch. It's toxic and really not fun. I play games to have fun. If it was my fault I would be more than happy to take the blame and get better. There isn't much I can do to counter the people coming from miles back while I'm mid corner other than to not race at all.

Maybe I could park and come to a complete stop on the outside of the corner and wait for them to come and just let every single car pass me on every corner. I don't know ahead of time who the clean racers and who the rammers are. So I would have to do that to avoid it. Without a proper penalty system there is NO WAY to avoid these people. If someone is on my radar when I'm going into a corner I generally leave space unless they were coming into it when I'm already turning in. I wished I saved a replay, I am way overly cautious and generous compared to everyone else on the grid. I don't care about the position, I care about the ramming/pushing.

So few people are playing online that SR rating is near useless. You're going to get mixed in with lower SR. Not to mention the fact that, I've seen these people in multiple races and it's not hurting their SR to do this. So here again I don't even know what the point of SR even is. Both the penalty system and SR are completely useless systems because they fail COMPLETELY at the one thing they were designed to do.

Maybe I'll come back when I've lost the taste in my mouth but it's going to be some time. I hope PD does something because this is cancer from my perspective.

What it does better than anything is teaching race craft. Race craft, not the art of speed but the ability to anticipate and avoid and also anticipate and take advantage.

Edit: I realized this could come across as snarky or condescending. That is absolutely not my intention.
I want to help.

throwing my 2 cents into the conversation about ****** drivers etc:
Back when Red Bull Ring was the GT-3 Race of the week I made the conscious decision NOT to qualify. Even being on Pole would not prevent me from being bombed into T1, or T3, or T4 no matter how much space, how clean, or how avoidant I was.

So I skipped qualifying and always started the race from the back. I never did win a lobby but I also had an average finish in the top 5 that week in that race. I found the car that worked for me (WRX) and the strategy that allowed me to have the most fun.

I would regularly gain positions because people ahead would dive bomb, crash, get penalized, etc. I'd also gain on pace. I had a good time, it was a fun challenge to see just how high I could get in the 5 laps we had to run starting dead last.

It also 100% kept me out of early race ******** which I think is where Gauge is coming from. He's sick and tired of having his race over before it really starts.

@GaugeForever maybe that's a thing you can try before you hang GT7 up for good. Look, I don't blame you at all for having these feelings and wanting to walk away. I did that too for a while. Lobbies got too ******, drivers down south got too aggro, and no matter how much faster I got they kept on screwing me. So now I don't really qualify, I screw around and practice some lines but almost never actually finish a lap until the end of the week (saturday or sunday) and I want to push for a win or two.

If you do hang it up though I hope you stick around here for the conversations, you seem like an intelligent racer and our forum will be poorer without you.

First time poster but long term lurker.

Currently working my way up on my alt account as I now have a wheel. Damn its a learning curve with that. My main account is B/S so I'm getting a good look at the lower SR lobbies whilst I'm getting to grips. My god what an absolute hell hole. Rams, swerving across the track and a new one for me weaving then slaming on the anchors just before they serve their penalty. All over 11th or 12th place.

This weeks races. B is kinda fun but I find C a bit boring to be honest. A test of concentration mind you.

Is it possible to remove my qualifying time? I feel it's a quite good time, but like you say, you'll finish with a better position if you don't qualify at all. Unless you're in the top 3, just like last week and the week before, you might as well start last and work your way up.

No. But when the race starts just move wide and slow down and pull in behind the last car. As others have noted, you will pick up spots on carnage and lost battles that you are not part of. I was in a race last week I was starting 8th with 5 A+ drivers ahead of me. One was GREASY with a 3.17 QT or something. I said this is nuts... I moved right and tucked behind the last car and ended up 9th. I enjoyed it and I did not get in a battle where I was over my head.

Trying to not be a quitter, I got my qualifying up high enough that I'm in the top 3 of every race now. Immediately had multiple good races with respectful drivers all around. I think going forward I might just pull over if I'm not at the front of the pack after qualifying. The middle of the field is a nightmare. I don't think it's just because it's crowded either. For whatever reason that's just where all the worst drivers end up.

It's also been fun leap frogging QT with Grumpy. I gave him a really tough one to try to beat over night. As I mentioned in a previous post, the place where you gain the most time is the last corner. You have to absolutely nail that to have any hope. Anyone using traction control can just forget about it heh.

Glad to see you're keeping at it. For me, I just had two really bad races in a row. Unfortunately they were both my fault. For both of them, I started P3, and totally messed up the first turn. I'm sure there's some people complaining about me running into them right now. DNF'd one of them, and finished last in the other. Ugh.

I think we'll be doing that all week. I just feel like there's a lot more time we can gain.

First corner and last corner, for sure.

Well then I must be in trouble, because I always use TCS 1, ASM on, and CA on Strong. Just remember that, the next time I leapfrog your time.

Whilst it's good you're trying to avoid confrontation it could also be argued that constantly leaving space just because a car is close by is also leaving the door open which can invite unwanted contact. I hope you'll get some good clean races soon to keep your morale up.

And yes the race B I did today was ruined by someone punting me out. I think it was more carelessness than dirty driving. However waiting and an apology might have been nice.

There's so much contact and accidental punting that it's almost impossible to stop and wait. At least that's been my experience. The track is fast, crowded, technical, and short, so little mistakes become big mistakes in an instant. I've dropped from B at around 75% to B around 50%, with no end in sight. I've had 7 races. 4 I DNFed. Not sure if I'm going to continue with this race or not. I don't care all that much about my DR, except when I can't even finish half the races, I can't really see the point.

A see people pull over all the time to let the field pass by. I’ve done it in order to run laps from the back to get my SR up. It’s an easy solution to your quali time already being recorded.
Daytona’s the first gr4 race in a while where I feel I can at least compete with the AWDs. Of course I have to drive the wheels off my Cayman or 650S to keep up but it’s fun racing.
That Cayman is a ton of fun at Daytona! It’s quick but not fast though.
Running the Jag F type in race C. I like it a lot. Seems stable over the GTR which tries to kill me every other lap at the first turn. Race B I'm using a variety. RX Vision is my current preference but had some success (realtive!) with the Beetle
I’ve had the best luck with the Jag. Much more stable than the GR-R and the Mustang, and has the top end of the Viper. It’s a great car for a lot of tracks!

RCZ every Gr4 race for me, usually myself land on the podium.
....and no one likes getting beaten by a Peugeot! 🤣

my main has no qualifying time at daytona. my second has something like a 1:58-59. Probs just gonna run that this week, get more used to the wheel with non-AI drivers, and see how it goes. Main continues to hibernate.

WRX doesn't perform well for me at Daytona. Haven't run the Alfa. The Lambo is right ****ing out, too slow accelerating, not enough top speed.
GT-R is ok, I guess? I'm not happy driving it though. Feels weird trying to get it around the corners. Might try the Mclaren or go off meta into a FR instead of 4WD/MR.
The Cayman is a joy to drive, as someone mentioned, but isn't all that fast and gets outrun pretty easily. I bought it to complete the Porsche Cafe Menu lol

I've been running the Evo in race B and really like it. Quali time is a 43.9 with it. It's a little slow off the line so if you have a Mustang or Jag behind you, might have to defend early.

Got my win in A so I am done with that noise.

C is just so uninspiring. The Gr4 cars are just too slow and sluggish for this track. Gr3 and up are good. I was actually kinda excited as I love Daytona road course but just underwhelmed with the Gr4 cars here.

I switched over to the Mustang and basically ran the same qualifying time as yesterday, so I used that for my races tonight.

Race 1 had a nice mix with GT-Rs, Huracans, Jaguars, Vipers, an Alfa, and me in the Mustang. My time is good for P6 on the grid. We all survive turn 1 in the front at least and away we go. But, I get hit from behind entering the West Horseshoe and I sustain some damage but I manage to catch up to the pack and slowly make my way up the field. Thanks to penalties, rage quits, and picking my spots to make moves, I finish P4. Surprisingly, some clean racing after the first lap with those around me. Only 1 off track penalty from the bus stop on lap 9. I was so ahead of P5 it made no difference in the end.

Race 2 was mainly GT-Rs with a Slophy(!), Supras, Caymans, and me in the lone Mustang again. I start P7 for this one and it was one of the cleanest and best races I've had in a long time. We all left each other room in corners and backed out when needed. Fantastic stuff. I did get an off track in the bus stop on lap 2, so that killed my momentum a bit. I slowly make my way through the field again with P4,P5, and me in P6 swapping spots for a good majority of the race. I finish P4 again and call it a night.

These 2 races were a huge confidence boost for my racing at Daytona in the future. My last experience on the Road Course was a disaster and made me avoid the track. I'm still having some trouble with the bus stop, but it's enough to not lose too much time. I also found the Mustang to be more stable around the track. Especially diving into turn 1. No wiggle like what I experienced with the GT-R. So, try the Mustang if you don't want to use the GT-R.

Cars are just too big for the track. I'm not against this happening overall as it happens in real life, I mean look at BTCC, there are a number of tracks that don't allow for good racing in that series as they are too constrictive but of course, that kind of problem in real life comes with rules and stuff. Remember those?

I didn't mind Race B qualy but one race and I was out, this just felt like dodgems, it's not the experience I enjoy.
